Then the vines made the hives look like silly euro [ ]'s in daft matching suits ... Plus it's simple! The hives were the support, the vines headlined!

Honestly, I liked both bands. While it's a competition I think both bands did well, although the hives are notoriously great at live performances so the vines had a lot to compete against.
The Hives were the most developed and polished of all THE bands pre dating the Stripes, Strokes, and Vines. Their demo in 1994 and 1st album in 1997. A punk band those years.

when you judge look from all aspects its a live performance so look at the song quality and presentaion my logical vote is the hives they sound amazing and their performance is high energy no smoke machine no smoking lights all them and thats why thier the greatest live band of thier time

I've seen The Hives and The Strokes both at the same small venue in Chicago (Metro) and although I prefer the Strokes musically from a strictly live performance standpoint The Hives win this one. They are amazing live. Strokes are great live too but Howling Pete is one of the best frontmen I've seen.
It just makes no sense to tear down either of these bands...their respective music and style makes it an event to watch either band. Saw the Hives as an opener a few years back (think it was for Maroon 5) at Staples Center in LA and they rocked it hard. Glad I was able to find music from each on youtube.
The Vines first two albumbs rock!! but the Hives albums Are awesome aswell..Both are great at amping you up....Hives have held it together longer then the vines so my hats off to them!

this is when I got totally hooked on the Hives. I liked the music already, but Man I've never seen such a decisive battle of the bands, no contest. And the Vines did a great performance too, but it's basically The Hives vs your brother's high school talent show band
The Hives are great performers. They are entertaining and super funny. It's hard to compete against their showmanship. The Vines don't seem to care about the audience. The singer, Craig Nicholls, just goes with his mood. The Hives own the stage, but I prefer The Vines' songs in general. There is much more creativity and variation in their music. Sadly, most people only know "Get Free," which is indeed a good rock song but not their best in my opinion.

I'm an Aussie but The Hives are one of the best live rock acts in the world, still today. The Vines, love them, and this isn't a bad performance, but Craig is not a great singer live. Some of the time he's not even singing the lyrics right or at all, he's just spewing whatever comes out of his mouth at different pitches or even just slurring or screaming.
The Hives went up there with no light show, no smoke machine, and with out their biggest song at the time (hate to say i told you so.), and still fucking destroyed them.
