Ottobock's Aaron Holm speaks with former Paralympian Brian Frasure and Ezra Frech, the youngest member of the US Paralympic team heading to Tokyo this year.
ABOUT EZRA:
Ezra was born with congenital limb differences in his left leg and left hand, but he’s never thought of himself as disabled. At 11 months, Ezra was ready to get moving - something that will serve him well in his future career as an athlete - and was fit with his first prosthetic leg. He’s been unstoppable ever since. At two years old, Ezra underwent surgery to remove the lower, non-functioning part of his leg and to transplant a toe from his amputated foot to his left hand. This allowed Ezra’s limb to fit better in his prosthesis, taking his physical abilities to the next level.
Ezra played several sports in high school and started competing in track and field events in 2013. He now holds 9 national track and field records in the Under 11 T42 classification for 60M, 100M, 200M, 400M, shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, and long jump. His determination, talent, and passion fueled the creation of Angel City Games, a multi-sport competition for physically disabled children, adults, wounded warriors, and elite athletes. The inaugural games were held in June 2015 and has been going strong every year since.
ABOUT BRIAN:
Brian Frasure is a former Paralympian. Born with a natural gift in athletics and running, Brian was a promising freshman runner at the University of North Carolina. In 1992, a train accident led to Brian’s left leg being amputated below the knee. With his raw talent paired with a world-record holding coach, Brian’s athletic career soared. In his 15 years as a Paralympic sprinter, he racked up 55 medals - 32 gold - and 5 world records.
He has spent the past 14 years working with prosthetic manufacturers to advance bionic technology by providing input to R&D teams and fine tuning the devices in the marketplace. As a certified Prosthetist, he even fit Oscar Pistorius with his running blades, which he then used to break Brian's own world record. Today, Brian works as a Senior Clinical Specialist at Ottobock. His unique perspective and expertise allow him to help people regain their freedom of movement and reach their fitness goals.
