I agree, this was the best season for Cordelia, she grew up so much and became a strong, independent, hot and kickass woman, the bratty selfish girl was rather tamed, i just loved Cordelia so much in this season she was even hotter, looking way more sharp and in control! My femdom fantasy! although what happened after with Connor and how she changed again kinda ruined it.
I have to assume that Gunn has heard the Buffy-Angel drama story many, many times in different variations from Cordy and Wes, and is just along for the show. He's definitely laughing like someone who gets the joke.

There's a special comic showing that meeting between Buffy and Angel, but I could never find it :( Anyway, with Buffy's depressive state, her developing feelings for Spike and Angel's developing feelings for Cordy, my guess is their encounter was anything but romantic
