Major General GD Bakshi is a decorated Indian Army officer, a veteran of many skirmishes along the Line of Control and counterinsurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. He served in the military for 37 years, winning the Vishisht Seva Medal for commanding a battalion during the Kargil War and the Sena Medal for distinguished service in commanding a battalion during counterinsurgency drives. He has authored as many as 36 books, including on information warfare and psychological operations.
In conversation with Abhinandan Sekhri, he talks about how the Army is represented in the media and popular culture, human rights violations, psychological warfare, collateral damage in war.
Speaking about psychological warfare, Bakshi says, “There are two negative emotions in combat. These are disorganising emotions. One is fear, the other is guilt.” He claims the Indian Army has been the victim of a sustained campaign painting it as one of the worst perpetrators of human rights violations.
“Where human rights stem from compassion, I’m all for it,” he says. “But where they’re used as a pretext to hamper operations, induce guilt and to make sure the insurgent gets away, that I’m totally against.”
Discussing his latest book, The Saraswati Civilization, Bakshi says the British colonial historiography had an ingrained bias, for it was employed to justify foreign rule to the Indian population. “There is an amazing level of cultural continuity that comes down to us from that ancient era,” he adds.

That's what I assume a well executed interview should be like. Abhinandan Shekri is a well organized presenter, he is sharp with his toung, edgier with his intelligent questions, not driven by any so called narrative and counters every aspect of a particular issue. A horse of long race.

One thing I didn't see in the trailer are questions on the misuse of immunity provided under AFSPA etc. There are 100s of well documented cases of brutal abuse of power, starting from harassment, threats to outright use of rape as a tool for subjugation and terrorising the population under control, not to forget several extrajudicial, non combat, executions.
This is why extreme reactions and activism like those of Arundathi Roy exist.

Just see what's happening in Assam - everyone in Assam is against the citizenship amendment bill - but amit shah says that it is in country's favour. @@cosmicsingh9082 @I found GD Bakshi in this short teaser interview to be very reasonable (when spoken about collateral damage) and patriotic (read deeply sensitive and emotional). Maybe that's why they say that War changes men. He's seen many young brave men die on his watch. He reminds me of Jack Nicholson from the movie A few good men. No doubt he is enjoying the current government's unaccountable extremism and attack stance on present nationalism which was vehemently suppressed in the previous government and was always put on standby and defensive mode and kept stricter watch on collateral damage than the present one.
