- Hi guys! Welcome back to my channel. My name is Airam pronounced like “Eye-rum.”
Today’s video has been highly requested & is most definitely a Mexican household staple & overall a vegan staple! Beans in general are one of my favorite things to eat. Refried beans can be used in SO many different dishes, as a side or a main meal. Some examples would be enfrijoladas, in burritos, on nachos & so much more! I hope you guys enjoyed this video.

I'm a classically trained chef, have worked in many restaurants, grow my own food (still), and grew up in Los Angeles preparing Mexican food primarily. I can say with certainty, after watching many of your videos, that your technique is spot on, your information is superbly correct, your culinary style is incredibly historical and accurate, and your narration is fabulous and easy-to-listen to. Seriously one of the top cooking channels on UA-cam!!! You could go far, if you wanted to. Kudos.
Thank you so much, your comment is so motivating ❤️ Apprecitate you!
Classically trainer liar and but kisser.
This is wonderful to know. Mexican food is superbly diverse and when you veganize it like Airam, you can't miss. Airam is awesome.

I love the bean masher story 💓
Right 🥺
My family adds a chile ancho paste (rehydrate deseeded drying ancho chiles, blend them with a little bit of water). It adds a lot of depth and really gives it a more appealing color.
Can't wait to try this but with Peruvian beans!
And you use fresh beans too. Airam you are a Godsend for us. Do you have any cookbooks published?
Glad to see you have Vegan refried beans.
Thanks! Had no idea how to make it and you really helped. Refried beans with homemade tortillas is the bomb!
Just made these and once again you have out done yourself! It’s soo good!!
You're saving my life with these recetas!! Ahhhh thank you so much!
Just discovered your channel & can’t wait to try your recipes! I’m Mexican too & have been on my Vegan journey for 2+ years…I’m curious if you’ve ever made beans in an Instant Pot? They typically take me about 60 minutes or so, from start to finish & I don’t even soak the beans over night. I can’t wait to make your refried beans next time! Thanks for all you do to help us learn how to Vegan-ize traditional Mexican recipes! ☮️❤️🌮
I wish I was local to you! I miss CA and all the fresh produce. So many farms there. Thank you for your video. Very nice.
Now I know that Follow Your Heart has feta too, thanks❗They have the best tasting sliced cheeses and parmesan too
I thought I was turning into a China girl fanboy but you have given me new life and culture a little closer to home ! Gracious Maria for feeding us your beautiful family love with your vegan heart ❤️ 🏡☀️

@@airamcooks aw thank you so much!!
This looks amazing!
I can find dry pinto beans here in Japan but not refried beans. Thanks for making this video!
Beautiful pomegranates! I wish I was local to you. I used to live in a place with a climate where you can grow pomegranates. But now I don't anymore and I miss both the climate and the vegetation that goes with it.
Thank you so much for your vegan recipes. I'm not vegan but vegetarian and this is so helpful.

Are these spicy? I’m a wimp with spicy food but love beans. Do I need to omit or change any ingredients? Thank you!
You can use jalapeños instead of chilis de arbol or just leave out the chilis.
bean masher 💙
Yummmmmm
I’ve been doing my beans wrong
💕🥰 many different ways love! hehe
What if I don’t have garlic cloves? Can I used garlic salt?
Can this recipe be substituted for black beans? 😅😊
Yes!
Did you take down your IG? Love this recipe
I love this!! is there any way you can make a video of why you became vegan ? How long you have been vegan ? Is your family vegan ? If so how is it like?? Lol.. i am mexican as well and i would like to become vegan🙂🙂
We are vegan for the animals! I’ve been vegan for 3+ years and my boyfriend is vegan too for 2+ years! My immediate family are omnivores. :) I should do a Q&A sometime soon!!!
Awee awesome girl ... yess please do!! i struggle so much.. but this is something that is always in the back of my mind.. i feel like there is a reason .. did you transition over night or did it take time lol sorry i have so many questions.
I wonder if you could use canned pinto beans for a short cut..? Do you think it wouldnt come out the same?
You definitely can! It will come out similar, it’s just a mild difference in taste 💕 Fresh beans just taste um “fresher” haha but yes canned beans are good for a shortcut!
@@airamcooks ok I will try it out! I'm always rushing with 3 kids lol. Thank you!!!
Subscribed! You doin the damn thang 🌟
Thanks so much 🧡🧡
Looks good
Thank you 💝

Hi! Can you help me - the few times I’ve tried making my own refried beans they just seem dry or something - I tried following your recipe (I didn’t exactly measure) but they still seem dry even when they get to a soupy point
I’m not totally sure how to describe it
My biggest tip is that they need to be cooked until tender! ❤️ So they are mashable & puree easily you know? How wet you want them depends on you. You need to add as much as the water from the beans to your desired texture when mashing! I hope this helps 🥲❤️❤️
@@airamcooks Thank you so much!! I soaked over night and then cooked for about two hours but I think since I was doing more than 3 cups I need to try cooking a lot longer ☺️ All the food you make is amazing I want to try all your recipes!❤️
Am local , i take them
You didn’t add any salt to this???
1 1/2 tbsp of salt or to taste at the 1.5 hour mark! Its in the video, but just realized it's not in the description lol
I would die. I need to move somewhere where I can grow actual fruit trees not just Apple tree
I love fruit trees honestly. It would be a dream to have every kind hehe
YOU BROKE THE BEAN MASHER?!?!?
That seems actually really stupid and like they think you're dumb that they need to sell beans which naturally are high in fiber and sodium-free. That's why you have to add salt to your beans
D, ,😂
Thanks for the view bro
@@airamcooks no thanks necessary, shared to some friends, just found it funny about the sodium

Less talking more cooking

Nope
Yup!
@@airamcooks nah
Yes
@@airamcooks double yup! Airam, I just discovered your channel and will definitely try your recipes. I love Mexican food and flavorful food and yours fits the bill. Side note: my hubby had a stroke and nearly died. Since then we have committed to eating much more vegetables and fresh foods to help him not have a second stroke and so our family has better health. Plant based eating is like delicious medicine we take three times a day.
Nothing personal, but why do you have a ring in your nose?
You *_DO KNOW_* that 'barnyard' and other animals that need to be controlled are the only living things that have those. _DON'T YOU?_
im not vegan anymore dumbass nor do i care
That guys an idiot. Sad to hear that you're not a vegan anymore... Thanks for the recipes.
Omg you are not vegan anymore? May I ask why you quit? I loved all of your vegan recipes 😔
please control yourself otherwise we might need to stick a ring up yours. what is wrong with people this day and age SMH this is a refried bean video
