Being a Ref Still Today My 51st Year ... But Can You Imagine If The Home Town Coach Had This Happen To His Shooter With 2 Secs 4th Q And His Shooter Got Fouled Same Exact Play He Would WANT A FOUL PERIOD !! And Not Send Any Video Or Bitch !!
@6:48 pretty egregious travel there, twice actually. True we can't precicely see where the dribble ends due to the camera angle, but unless he was bobbling the ball, he likely ended his dribble with right foot on the ground, then did the (illegal) stepback (travel #1, but not in the NBA), then picked up and put down his left foot (travel #2).
@34:51 the implication here seems to be that by calling a non-shooting foul, you are under-penalizing the foul. But in your defense, Josh, by ruling a non-shooting foul on this play, you aren't under-penalizing the defense. True, the shooter doesn't get 3 foul shots. But if his shot had gone in, they would get 3 points plus the ball OOB. Or if in the bonus, they would get up to 2 foul shots on top of their 3 points (that could have turned into a 5 point possession).
Been officiating for quite a few years now and learn something almost every time out. (Not every timeout, but every...well you know). Anyway, well explained and discussed situations as well as how to handle coaches. Valuable stuff. Sometimes its hard to process everything in the moment at game speed. These videos help clarify and identify proper angles and what to look for. Also, very glad that I don't officiate with experts who have 51 years of perfect experience and know exactly how everyone should've made their calls because that can be discouraging and make one feel that they will never be satisfactory 😉
No whistle on made 3 pointer (42:16): That looked like a flop. It appeared that the defender barely touched the shooter, who crumpled to get a foul call. The way he fell made no sense based on the direction of the contact. (He fell straight to the floor like his legs quit working.) This was my first thought when I saw it in real time, and watching it in slow motion just confirmed. Watch the way his legs crumple just after the contact.
A great question was asked around 13:20 which was "What should we be looking for?" with relation to these potential fouls on an airborne shooter. My answer is, look to see if the defender was in legal guarding position BEFORE the shooter became airborne. If not, and there is illegal contact, then the burden of the foul is on the defender.
In situation 33:50 "push out of bounce after the shot", does it mean that offense gets a posetion even if he makes the three? It is like the defense fouling while boxing out isnt it?
If a defender fouls after the shooter lands, therefore no longer being a shooter, if the ball goes in, the goal counts and the foul is penalized accordingly: free throws if in the bonus or out of bounds at the nearest designated spot.
The T Is Backing Up And Watching The Ball !!!
You’re on fire with your comments today.
0:50 Trail needs to position adjust and step down between shooter and defender to have a better look. Hes stacked here
Also he’s way too high to begin with. Two steps down and he’s in good position
Agreed

A Foul 3 Shots 100% ! C Should Have Closed Down 2 Steps ! But A,Great Flop Acting Job Too !😊😊
Exaggerating contact makes our job harder.

Glad it was helpful. We all need help with these situations regardless of years experience.

All 3 Refs Should Watch For a T.O. and Where The Ball IS and The Clock ! Go To The Timer '# 1 For HELP !!!
Great tip. Timer and scorer is on our team.

One Ref Talking Is A OOO.. TRAVEL ? WOW !!!
We discuss everything regardless of what others think. Only ways we, at all years of experience, can grow and improve as officials.

FOUL 100% PERIOD !

FOUL ON THE FLOOR 100%
Bad terminology “on the floor.” Shooting or not shooting. Because a player could be on the floor but still in the act of shooting.
Great Thing Josh You All Learned Ftom This,5 Years Ago ! A GREAT PRE GAME AND 3 TALKING 100% !
If you can’t admit your mistakes and try to learn from them, just give up officiating.
