I wonder what a professional short-track cyclist could achieve with this bike. They have massive legs for short burst sprints.

You need sprint power and endurance, it's a 5mile ride not a 2 lap sprint. A small sprinter with good power like mark Cavendish would be a good choice. Its a bit of a squeeze in these machines, no big guys allowed!

recumbents use a different muscle group, and being smaller lets you put out more power per size.

where are the enclosed narrow track commuter vehicles,we could eliminate the need for half the worlds oil use, emissions, increased range for electrics.Streamlining, aerodynamics cold cut the cord for oil in the Middle East,we don't need it.

We produce more oil here in the US now thanks to President Trump.

A few people have skateboarded over 200 miles in a day. I wonder how far they could take this thing on an empty road. Across a continent maybe.

Cyclists have ridden their bikes well over 500 miles in a day ;)

What do you think would've happened if he'd lost control & crashed/flipped in that feeble housing @ 83 MPH?

There's another video on UA-cam somewhere of Sebastiaan getting a flat tire just before the timing trap at around 80 mph, sliding off of the crowned road then tumbling end-over-end in the brush. The vehicle held together and he was only shaken up, no concussion.

That happens all the time though because of it's shape it actually doesn't matter that much. It usually just skids on ahead for a long time and since it's so open there is nothing to crash into.

After passing through the timing trap, there is 2/3 of a mile to slow down. The bike had disk brakes. In the catch area, a dozen people were waiting, one or two ran with the bike once it had reached 10 mph to put hands on it and take balance control. The rider continued to brake to a standstill as others surrounded it, held it upright and then removed the shell.

This is often used for engine powered vehicles, both cars and motorbikes. It's due to gearing, to eliminate any losses in transmission and to reduce weight.
It is kinda dorky, but if that is what everyone else is doing you have no choice. Kinda like ridiculous ROM and arching in bench press competitions.

Push and balance assistance is limited to the first 15 m of travel. 3 people are allowed to assist a single rider vehicle. No mechanical mechanisms are allowed. (Assistants on skates are no longer allowed)

The wheels are from the GoCycle, designed by ex-McLaren Formula One designer Richard Thorpe. Made from moulded magnesium alloy... not "China made metals and rubber".
Good luck with your world record attempt!
