I was lucky enough to see E3 in the theater, and then was gifted the VHS for my birthday. I still have it, and I've watched it at least 50 times. It's one of my top 5 favorite films of alltime!!!
The Exorcist III is the true sequel to The Exorcist. Based on Blatty's "Legion" which is a terrifying novel. Legion actually kept me up at night while reading it in college.
Probably THEE MOST UNDERRATED horror movie ever. Blatty is......... he's an absolute genius. He has written, IMO, the scariest book/movie of all time (The Exorcist) and one of the funniest movies of all time (A Shot In the Dark w/Peter Sellers.)
A lot of people didn't catch the Joker-statue because it was so subtle and relatively quick. I saw it in the theater and it shocked me to see it. My girlfriend and I were huge comic book collectors back then and I had to point it out to her when we saw it on video. Like most everyone else, she completely missed it.
I went back and watched the movie at the theater a 2nd time to make SURE I saw it! I learned from the FIRST Exorcist to look very, very, carefully at statues in churches.
One thing I dont get about Exorcist III is that Karras and Kindermans relationship is made out to be so close. 2:22 Kinderman says "Father Karras was my best friend, I loved him". But we know from the first film that they met maybe a small handful of times if that! In fact we only see them meet once. Kinderman goes to meet him at the running track and walks back through the park with him, wanting him to tell him anything he may have heard during confession that could relate to the murder of Dennings. Karras refuses. And thats it!
In the book, they met several more times and did become pretty close. Towards the end of the book, they talk like they really care about each other - like good friends. Kinderman decided pretty quickly that Karras was a good guy, and Karras realized the same about Kinderman. So they became pretty fast friends. Also, Kinderman knew how beloved Karras was by everyone he knew.
I think Blatty just took a dramatic license to create a more emotional link with the first movie. Was kind of unnecessary as Kinderman could just explain that the Macneil case and Karras's death haunted him for those 15 years. That's more in line with the book Legion, as that kept away from the idea of them being best friends.
Blatty's explanation of possession is amazingly creepy, he explains at 0:42, wish more movies tackled possession with the spirit being a dead person either refusing to move on or in The Gemini Killer's case, wants to continue evil acts, that is a much creepier concept to me.
In my personal opinion, way better than The Exorcist. For some reason, the latter has never scared me and I find it overrated, while this one had greater tension, mystery and pace. I enjoy the franchise, but this one I find better by far :-)
@@Dude-oh8vq Was probably put in place to help frame the shot. George c scott wasn't happy about having to go back and shoot those extra scenes, so they probably just used the mannequin to save him having to stand there while setting up the shot..
I don't see how, though. Dahmer was caught in '90 or '91, was he not? He couldn't have had time to watch this with most of his victims. It came out less than a year before he was caught.
Apart from Exorcist The Beginning, none of the films were even remotely frightening. To me, they were mediocre at best, capable only. In scaring wimps. The Omen was more scary and disturbing.
I preferred exorcist Dominion. However seeing both was worthwhile. I liked the third film too. Exorcist 2 was the worst one. Thanks for the suggestion of the Omen. I've never seen it. Is the franchise worth seeing?
This is the mother of all sequels.
One of the greatest movies ever made, in my opinion. And VERY worthy of the first film!
I honestly liked it more than the original, I thought it had a lot more depth
Brad Dourif was excellent but Jason millars voice made the cell scenes unbelievably terrifying.arguably best horror ever made.
Let's bit get crazy
One of the greatest horror films ever made! Brad dourif really makes everything creepier
That Hospital scène scared the shit out of me ...

At some point this novel is even scarier than the Exorcist one!
BEST MOVIE EVER!!
Exorcist 3 is the best out of all exorcist
Yes !
It was good. But the first is king of them all.
It's underrated for sure, but better than the first? Lol. No. Beg to disagree.
@@sigspearthumb3249easily better than the original

I'd say Exorcist 3 is funnier than A Shot IN the Dark
1 of my favourites
They should have just abolished Exorcist 2 and discarded it completely , and named Exorcist 3 as the second one instead.
Man the opening of the church with the eyes of JESUS opening..AND THEN THE STATUE OF THE SAINT WITH THE LOOK OF JOKER

That part always bothered me too. They barely knew each other.
I can see Kinderman saying that about Father Dyer but not Karras
In the book, they met several more times and did become pretty close. Towards the end of the book, they talk like they really care about each other - like good friends. Exorcist was a masterpiece, the second one a total waste of time and money, the third another masterpiece. 2 of 3 ain’t bad
Better than most franchises I'll give you that.
I ain't scared of no ghost.
