It's a huge debatable subject whether genetics plays a role in hair growth and YES it does.....I am half black and half Indian my hair is at bra strap length for like ever and I dream of having waist length lol....my little Indian cousins are just 5 and 6 yrs old and they have waist length hair...yesterday I was in Cookies Store and I saw this little Spanish girl about 7 yrs old and she has waist length hair, Indians, Spanish and Caucasians hair grows like crazy without having to do all the extra stuff that we has to do for growth it's a job a full time one too

Right, genetics is an important factor in everything else, why not hair? Science says hair grows an AVERAGE of 1/2 inch each month. That's a long ways from saying EVERYONE'S hair grows exactly 1/2 inch every month. Furthermore, generally, scientists publish their results based on their very small sample or testing group and limited research. Then the masses grab hold of their statistics as universal truth without understanding the science.

Thank you for mentioning genetics as a factor in hair growth. And having the courage to talk about hair types and how naturals who have looser curl patterns have an easier time maintaining their hair and retaining length. It seems nobody wants to be truthful about these things. I have 4b/4c hair that I like to wear straight because it’s a lot of work to maintain my hair its natural state. It annoys me when someone with a looser curl pattern tells me I shouldn’t get my hair straightened. Being natural is not a one-size-fits-all experience. I enjoyed your video. Your hair looks amazing, btw.

The BEST way to learn hair is seeking all knowledge about the structure itself. The science of black hair book describes, in an easy to read guide, how unique afro hair is and it really helped me learn HOW to listen to, and to understand my hair so much. I wasn't raised to care as much as I do now and I love that people like you want to share tips because that really helps too. My hair has never been past my shoulder with perms, I was hopeless. Now i see everything different and its past my armpits now. Change your mindset, change habits, and see results.

All truth! Thank you. I think people who go natural are still not accepting it as is. They cover it up with; as you said, weaves, braids, twists, and your real hair is crying out "Im suffocating" lol. No sun, no wind, no moisture from the air. The point you made I liked the most, was when you said if you haven't spent any time with your hair you don't really know your hair. You have to embrace it for what it is and then work within it. Otherwise you just won't have the health and length we all desire...

This is great advice! I finally realized my fine stands don't like protective styling because it's more likely to cause breakage in general and also, because it keeps me from learning how to take care of my hair. So, every time I took out a style, it broke bc I didn't know what I was doing. Anyway, subscribed!

I don't usually comment on videos but I really wanted to for this one because I feel like you kept it really real on this advice. I like the way you dropped knowledge about genetics and common sense hair care; especially the point about not using too many products. A lot of natural hair videos advise using so many different products that it can be confusing. But when you made that point about keeping 4-5 products in the hair care tool box I was like, "yeeeeeeeah, I feel that.' So thanks. Hope you're having a great 2019 so far!

Dead on the tip about listening to and knowing your hair. For example, everybody seems to love Eco Styler gel, but I've noticed that my ends get so hard and dry when I use it. I used to do a lot of wash and go's so I would use gel everytime. After just a month of trimming my ends they would be so dry and course that I had to trim more frecuently, so I had a harder time retaining length. So, now my go to style are mini twists. Not only do I not need to use gel, it keeps my hair protected and tangle free.

Don't isolate yourself. There are people who have been through what you might be facing right now and they overcame it. Don't push people away, surround yourself with people who are spiritually mature and get the help that you need. Isolation when you are in pain and don't know if there's a way out is dangerous and that's why we have suicide cases. Listen, there's nothing that you can be facing that God is not able to solve for with God nothing is impossible. Hold on. Jesus loves you.

A few years ago my hair used to be short and damaged due to lack of care I used to do but now that I do my hair and take care of it it’s been growing and I love it
Some of my tips how I grow my hair (I do my own hair and this might not work for everyone)
    Protective styles
I personally love clip ins and sew ins (curly or blow dry straight)
I get a lot of build up so I will scratch my scalp the wash then use grease on my scale (I personally love Indian hemp)
Twists or braids before I go to sleep
I have silk scarfs and silk bonnets that makes this easier and helps with less breakage
Trimming my ends (I have layers and used to have bangs) everything is growing out so I trim my ends everyone 1-3 months (in my family our hair grows fast)
If your hair is prone to breakage I suggest deep conditioning, or hair gummies that have collagen in them you can get them at Walmart target or Walgreens (I don’t suggest sugarbear it’s just sugar LOL)

Hey Naaa! Is that your real name? I love it 🥰. I 100% agree with everything you are saying except I think there are a few other things that will help with hair growth.
    1. Diet, increasing fruit and vegetable intake
    2. Supplements - Stinging Nettle, Biotin, Etc
    3. Messaging the scalp with oils that are proven to stimulate hair growth - Amla, Brahmi, Rosemary, etc.
    4. Exercise - For circulation, moving the body daily increases blood flow to all parts of the body.
Thank you so much for your videos, you are amazing and funny.

My hair has gone through the most... I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 2013- my hair was still ok for a while... But recently I've cut my hair 3 times because it's been falling out because of meds 🙇🏾‍♀️😫😥 I'm starting to feel helpless and hopeless when it comes to my hair... Sigh...
I've overcome so much, and health wise I've come from far... Not being able to talk, eat, move- even going through a medical crisis that left me in respiratory failure and cardiac arrest where my heart stopped 3 times... Coma, life support, feeding tube, 14 IVs , everything.... I thank God I'm alive... So sometimes I just try to ignore my hair... But honestly... Yesterday I felt an all time low... I wish it was as simple as just taking care of my hair... Sigh 😫😥🙇🏾‍♀️ one day Lord ..
Your hair is beautiful... Thanks for the information

Bagala Brendah if rice water don't work for you at it leaves your hair hard or brittle after using it correctly then that means your hair is probably protein sensitive.Look for products that have little protein in it and you will see your hair change. x

Bagala Brendah what I’ve learned is that what we put INTO our bodies is even MORE important than what we put ON our hair/skin! Start taking hair and nail vitamins, multivitamins, biotin. You’re probably not getting what your hair needs in nutrients from the inside for a healthy head of hair!!

Waiting for your rap album sis. Anyway this was so helpful, thanks for bringing us down to earth. I’m texlaxed, I don’t like straight hair so I’m not relaxed and my hair still shrinks and is coily but it’s more of a 3c/4a rather than my natural 4b. I don’t think I can ever stop haha it’s so easier to manage but the mid section of my hair is immune to relaxer. Doing henna on my hair is my form of protein treatment because it’s so amazing and I never do protective styles!

if youre in desperate need of moisture try Camile Rose Honey Hydrate Leave-in Conditioner.
    YAWL.
Its the best conditioner I've ever used. Hair feels soft and hydrated for DAYS. Its so unbelievable! It doesnt frizz out your hair and its made with all natural ingredients. I thought the Curls haircare line was my go-to but then I discovered Camile Rose and I just cant even...I use it after I wash (leaves your hair smelling like sugar). Has a honey thickness but once applied to the hair it just melts right in. I dont have to reapply till the next wash which is like maybe a week or so.

Thank you so much for your words of wisdom pertaining to caring for your hair.. I've just done the BIG CUT... all off.. of course this is nothing new for me.. I've been doing it for years.. because of thinning issues...I recently had a reality check that I have not done ANYTHING to truly help my hair to grow to be strong to be healthy.. This has been confirmation for me.. that without DOING SOMETHING... you get exactly out of something what you put into it.. NOTHING from NOTHING leaves NOTHING. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WORDS because they have helped me at the beginning of my NEW BEGINNING of HAIR GROWTH JOURNEY
