    I took a psychology class and what you said about believing that something will happen makes it happen is actually very true. This is because when you believe that a goal of yours will one day be accomplished, your brain unconsciously takes steps/actions that support in reaching said goal. For ex. a person might start eating healthier - drinking more water, or even just simply taking better care of themselves, simply because they unconsciously become aware that these are factors that would aid in achieving the goal of having longer hair or weight loss or basically anything else. There is an actual term for this but I can't remember it at the moment but really great advice big sis! Love your channel 😘💜

    I am grateful that my hair is really growing longer but as it gets 'longer' I get lazier. It took me awhile to get used to having hair below my neck. It really is a lifestyle. Now that I am more used to dealing with my hair like it is long I am ready to get back into protective styles to get it to bra strap length. You know what you are talking about and you've got the hair to prove it. Your video motivated me to whip this lean (thin) hair into shape. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Thank you for the informative video on growing out and maintaining healthy hair. It's wonderful that we have technology that allows us to learn on a larger scale how to care for our hair in a healthy manner. I feel as though somewhere in history we as African-American women lost the traditions and understanding of how to maintain healthy hair, and we fell into a thinking like much of the world that we can't have long, healthy hair. Yet many of the tutorials online have shared we are capable if we are willing to patiently work for it, while adopting healthy habits. I truly appreciate your overall message that you must adopt a healthy lifestyle if you want beautiful healthy hair. This means valuing yourself, taking time for yourself to exercise, eat healthy, incorporating water, vitamins and positive self messages, while journaling along the way. Other subtle key points that I heard you bring out was setting goals, being accountable to your hair-your self and creating routines, while being patient. These are all wonderful messages to incorporate into our lives in other personal pursuits. If you can dream it, you can obtain it! Good luck ladies in your hair journey and personal self discoveries. Remember your strength and beauty radiates from the inside out regardless of the length of your mane...keep smiling sistas, you got this!

I consider myself to be on a new natural hair journey even though I've been natural for years, because I didn't really know my hair and how to care for it. Honestly, she has 3c hair so it's easier for that texture to grow long. Why? Because the texture is smoother and the curls are larger so they don't break off as easily as 4a/4b/4c hair. I do think her advice is good, but please note that finger detangling 4c hair is a different animal than detangling 3c hair.

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 років тому +64

      I also have fine hair that tangles like a beast if the wind blows too hard. We all have hair difficulties and struggles that we have to work through to grow our hair to its best potential. Hair density, porosity and hair strand thickness also play a huge part into building your healthy hair care regimen - not just curl pattern.

    • @daonlyboriqua11
      @daonlyboriqua11 7 років тому +126

      Thats just an excuse. There are UA-camrs and girls other places with 4c hair down to their ass. Type 4 hair grows just fine when you take care of it properly and have good hair practices. As well as a good diet. Curl pattern is irrelevant. I have thick af 3c/4a hair and only finger detangle.

    • @dawnlittle2501
      @dawnlittle2501 7 років тому +63

      4a/4b/4c hair grows equally as fast as all other hair types, no doubt. However, it is more fragile than looser curl patterns and therefore it is more challenging to grow long. I have 4b/4c hair but my family members have 3c/4a. I've spent my life doing their hair and of course my own. My hair requires much more effort to retain length. Imagine someone with straight hair telling you that your hair is no easier to care for than their own. Keep in mind, a lot of 4b/4c UA-camrs have grown their hair long by keeping it under weaves and wigs for long periods of time, which is not the same as manipulating it. My point is MY hair is fragile and breaks and I have the experience to know that it is not as resilient as looser curly hair types. Sadly, the majority of natural UA-cam vloggers aren't 4c, that fact alone proves a point.

    I have to trim around every 2-3 months also because my ends split very easily. If I go too long then my hair will split further than what I can see. For example I can get a trim and a few days later I will notice splits again because possibly my hair was split further than what my stylist can see.

      Therese Ayo Barro Ooo that's a really good tip, especially for the nape area. I sometimes braid the hair at my nape when I wear my hair out because the hair at the nape tangles so easily.

Divide and conquer your locs. I always wash my hair in sections. Take your time when detangling. Fingering is best. Starting from the ends working upwards. Satin or silk bonnet or pillow cases always helpful. Your tips are all on point. Love your video. Best to you in 2019

    Beautifully defined curls! My hair is the same length as yours and very thick, as in dense growth, but the individual hairs are extremely fine and delicate. I couldn't even use relaxer on it if I wanted to lol I had to stop using all products, stop using fine braids (I need to brush to distribute oils evenly) and use search and destroy to make it triple in length in 4 years. I find using your fingers to detangle AT THE SAME TIME as using a brush (like a tangle teaser) works well. As soon as I feel any hint of resistance brushing through my hair I stop and work the tangle through with my hands. And always brush from tip to roots.

    I found your video to be very informative and I really enjoyed it. People tend to have breakouts when taking biotin because they did not drink enough water. Biotin is water soluble , and because our body naturally makes biotin the excess needs to be released. Drink more water, you will use the restroom more often to release the excess biotin and avoid acne breakouts.

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 років тому

      I am glad you are enjoying it! Yes, before taking pure biotin I had read so many stories about bad breakouts and how important water intake was, however I was drinking a whoooole lot of water and still experienced cystic acne. I take the same dosage of biotin in my ManeChoice vitamins and have had much better results so I think I will just stick with those! Lol

  • @RoseVirusLV

    This video is very helpful, I came away with more tips than I have in all the other hair videos I've watched and it's more simple than others, too. I sometimes wish that there were more videos on hair care and routines for short hair. It's hard doing styles when it's so short, it's hard to section, hard to not have matted hair that leads to knots that then leads to breakage. Doesn't help that I'm also a lazy natural who has chronic dryness, I'm not sure what I'm doing and wash day always has tons of breakage. My main issue is moisturizing and what to do when I sleep. I just use a silk bonnet without sectioning since the back is the part that's matted in the morning. Not sure how to avoid the matted part. I figured that my hair doesn't like combs or brushes, though. My strands don't zigzag like 4C so I'm thinking I'm more 4B/4A.

    I feel like hair length is determined by genetics, doesn't matter how much you take care of it, it's only gonna grow as long as your genetically inclined to but I'd say take care of your hair whether it grows long or not so it can be healthy

    • @k3upikachu
      @k3upikachu 7 років тому +2

      that's true. everyone's hair has a terminal length which is determined by genetics. hair only grows for so long (typically a few years) before falling out, so if hair grows half an inch a month and your growth cycle lasts for 3 years then your hair will grow max 18 inches. there are some things you can do to make your hair grow more than 1/2 inch a month, though, but you can't change the growth cycle length.

    • @crystalbrown992
      @crystalbrown992 6 років тому +5

      I have realized that's not true at all. I think with us we have to do extra for our hair that we don't want to do. Yes I feel like it grows to a certain length then stop. That's my hair all my life. Now that I've learned a lil more patience, wash my hair in sections, blow dry in sections, comb bottom to top, get hair trimmed, and the list goes on. My hair is much longer now and it really sprouted when I didn't blow dry or flat iron. I use or make a homemade leave in conditioner and twisted my hair every night. That took lots of time so I'm back to flat iron. I just make sure to wash my scalp too, keep the spit ends out, don't sleep with hair ties in and I still need to work on sleeping with a silk pillowcase. I'm still learning a lot. The picture of me is old but my hair has a lot more length now when I'm patient in taking care of it. So we can grow long hair it just takes extra work extra effort. We has less natural oil and have to add moisture while other races have too much natural oil so they have to wash it out. That's why we don't wash our hair everyday, we don't have much natural oils

    • @crystalbrown992
      @crystalbrown992 6 років тому

      k3upikachu your comment I'm suspicious of the same thing about my hair. I feel like it grew good then broke off at a certain point but I'm still unsure. My hair doesn't grow evenly so I have the salon trim in the lengths it's already growing for now. So I'm keeping an eye out for that

    I don't understand why Ppl constantly bash heat. If you use a low setting you'll be fine. My entire 6 years of being natural I was heat free and had nothing but knots and i havent been able to grow my hair past the middle of my shoulder blades. Four months ago I started to use heat once a month and Im finally mid back length after all these years. 4c ladies benefit from heat, because our hair needs to be stretched, so if any 4c ladies are reading this and heat works for you stick with it. Heat isn't for everyone but it is for 4c chics❤ Other than that the video was informative.
