Bobby is a criminally underrated guitar player. I can wrap my head around what Garcia plays. I’m not saying he’s predictable but I it makes sense to me. Bobby though, he’ll play four different inversions of the same chord on all four beats of a measure.
Bob Weir must experiences time on different plane of consciousness. I’ve been playing guitar for many years and still can’t wrap my head around his style. It absolutely blows my mind. He owns China/Rider.
this is amazing! really sweet to hear the isolated tracks as a guitarist. as others have mentioned Bobby is a master of inversions. he probably knows enough to fill a book lol. Ted Greene and Joe Pass both have chord books for anyone looking to try and find Bobby sounding chords. or whatever else lol
loving these isolated tracks, this is just sublime! i can think of several friends who are lukewarm about the dead maybe they need to hear what's going on here just between J and B!
Thank you for this ! Love the isolated tracks- for , generally, I'm just engulfed in the swirling sound which is the whole band ! Thank you, again ! ( ima bass player, so, .. MO' PHIL,please 🙏♥️ ! ).
Ohhhhhhh boy, so glad I came across this….THIS is my all time favorite Grateful Dead moment. Playing in the Band. Comes in after Bertha so hang tight and be ready to enter another dimension. Yes of course I like the actual 8-27-72 full band cut better…but what a treat to hear Bobby and jerr together on this. Thanks 🙏 🙏
Without Weir’s unique playing style, the Grateful Dead would never have sounded as good as they always did. Weir’s Fullback blocking for Jerry’s playing was what propelled the band into the stratosphere. And to think Bobby was so close to getting fired in 1969 because he just wasn’t good enough - simply put - an incredible success story for him that must still make him feel proud to this day: overcoming that adversity and find a unique style to help the band’s sound and save his job. So much easier said than done. And he just did it… in case he ever gets asked the classic interview question “tell me about a time you ever overcame adversity”
This is amazing! Im autistic and cant differenciate between different instruments (or voices in a conversation). It just becomes a "homogenous" experience. This helps me to appreciate the dead even more after listening to them exclusively for the last 4 or 5 years! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

The way they feed off each other in PITB is amazing 😮

I’m oh wow this is incredible. I was literally just listening to this show too and have heard it probably 300 times over the last 30 years.
