  • This week Cigar Mick and the Banker have a lighthearted conversation about the goings on in Las Vegas. The meteoric growth of the sports and entertainment industry in the city, and the doing away with old casino properties as we make room for what is to come.

Is the spice, leather, cream and coffee notes in a New World cigars the same as in a Cuban cigar? If so, then how can they taste different? It seems that real men talk about cigar strength, boys flavour. Which camp are you guys in, smokers or tasters?

@MrsGargled thank you for asking such a great question. The answer lies within the question and knowing the difference between taste and flavor. Let me start with taste. Taste is the human sense that perceives and distinguishes between salty, sweet, sour, bitter, and as Cigar Banker and I alluded to during this episode a 5th taste which is all inclusive known as umami. As each human is different and has different tolerance levels for each “taste” profile, what may taste good to one may not taste good to another. But your question (I think is a bit more subjective) suggests the same person comparing flavors across a Cuban cigar to that of a New World made cigar. Ignoring the obvious of differing plant varietals, soil minerals, climate, harvesting and aging methods, and considering that one’s TASTE preferences remain constant FLAVOR is actually taste PLUS AROMA! Which encompasses having both a mouth and nose for fine tobacco. So if you asking me (Cigar Mick) which camp I am in….I will have to say both, as should any self respecting tobacconists. But the differences between taste and flavor should shed light on your question.
      All the best
