OMG. CARRY ON. CARRY ON😍😍😍😍 That's my second favorite Rainbow Rowell book, with Fangirl being number one. There are strong similarities to HP but Rainbow turned the book into her own and it was so good
The Sword of Summer -- ughhhhh! My 9 year old just started it this week and he finished it last night. He beat me out on finishing Heroes of Olympus, so he's already rubbing it in my face that he finished Sword of Summer LOL. I did want to read it before the end of the year. I usually make a list of 4 or 5 books to read each month, but I am not doing that in 2017. Fangirl is sitting on my shelf and I really wanted to read it this year too. I got this really gorgeous hardcover of it with a ribbon bookmark.
About Carry One: at the beginning it bugged me a tiny bit, but to be completely honest I was thinking way more of when would Baz show up. And I was so in love with the story and Baz that I stopped thinking about it and just fell deeply in love with it :)
Ahhh I absolutely ADORED carry on! Honestly, I read it right when it came out and as stupid as this may sound I didn't even think to compare it to Harry Potter. My biggest tip would just be to not compare it to Harry Potter because the characters may up front seem similar, but they're honestly also very different and it's just such a great story!!!!!
I'm currently reading Carry On and I had the same fears before but I'm really enjoying it! You will definitely make comparisons because it really is similar but this book has it's own vibe so I think you'll actually love it :)
Super late comment! But I wanted to say that The Thousandth Floor was a fun read. Very Gossip Girl with a sci-fi twist. I also super loved Vengeance Road! 😉
About Magnus Chase: I think Rick is really getting better and giving more time and energy to POC and LGBTQ+ representation in this series, as well as social issues and injustice while giving us a flat out different main character tgan we were use to in the PJO/HOO books, which I completely adore. Without much spoilers, I only can say if Percy was sassy, Magnus is the epitome if sarcasm, all the while keeping the light and energetic humor we got used to in his works. The story is interesting, the side characters are awesome, and Magnus(or Rick) isn't trying to steal the spotlight from them. These books and the TRC were definitely the best reads of the year for me.
Once you get used to the Harry Potter references, you really start to enjoy it! In fact, some of them really made me laugh and enjoy the book even more!
Can someone explain what to read so I can read the Magnus chase series. All I've read is the Percy Jackson series, and if you do can you tell me in order of the series not the individual books! Thank you so much xx
I suggest to you 'Room' by Emma Donoghue if you've never read that. I just finished it & it was so good! I'd love to see what you think of it as well(:
In a thousand nights, the writing style is weird but it's a good story. If u get past the first few chapters, the story will start to make sense to you and you'll really start to enjoy it. It's a bit of royalty and magic.
Omg when I heard you wanted to do a LGBT+ recommendation, I seriously screamed! You HAVE to read The Song of Achilles! It's one of my all time favorite books, I HIGHLY recommend it! It's about the greatest Greek hero Achilles and his lover Patroclus as they overcome struggles and difficulties in their lives. You need to read it!
i just finished the thousandth floor yesterday, and i would read the goodreads review section or do some googling because one of the main plot points is an extremely taboo subject in most of the world. other than that its like a futuristic gossip girl & pretty little liars combined
I'm about halfway through reading 'The Thousandth Floor' and I'm not enjoying it. The premise sounded so interesting and so I want to finish the book but I can't bring myself to pick it up. I just felt the plethora of different characters was a bit too much and I didn't connect or sympathize with any of them. I also felt like the storyline dragged a lot, and, a lot of the reveals were either too cliche or easily guessed. Sorry but IMO it's not a book I'd recommend :(
when you start reading carry on youre gonna be like "wow this is so harry potter' but by the half way point you'll be like "this is like the anti-potter". I think in a way you are supposed to compare it to harry potter and they way rainbow subverts a lot of the tropes in harry potter
Heads up for Carry On: The first third reads like a bad Harry Potter rip-off and then suddenly gets really good. There's some bi erasure, which bothers me, but other than that, I liked it.
HAY! oops - hay, Hailey, Why don't you read us a book on your channel. huh? Why don't cha. huh? Why don't cha, why, why, why... ??? I don't think i can go to sleep unless you read us a book... on line - NOW! Except don't read us a LGBT book (i don't like those books) Read us star wars or something. Yeah Ahsoka. Ok this is getting weird... Ok gotta go. - bb =]
OMG. CARRY ON. CARRY ON😍😍😍😍 That's my second favorite Rainbow Rowell book, with Fangirl being number one. There are strong similarities to HP but Rainbow turned the book into her own and it was so good

Seconding Carry On. It was a lot of fun - and I really liked imagining Cath writing it, like bookception. Also, Fangirl was just so so good. So good.

You should read the Iron fey series by Julie Kagawa... I am really interested in hearing your opinion.

You should read magnus chase especially for the diversity. I just read it and I adored it!!
I'm currently reading Carry On and I had the same fears before but I'm really enjoying it! You will definitely make comparisons because it really is similar but this book has it's own vibe so I think you'll actually love it :)
Vengeance Road was surprisingly really good! I was really disappointed in A Thousand Nights it was a little boring. Love watching your videos.
Super late comment! But I wanted to say that The Thousandth Floor was a fun read. Very Gossip Girl with a sci-fi twist. I also super loved Vengeance Road! 😉

Of the two retellings, I prefer A Thousand Nights to Wrath and the Dawn.

I read A Thousand Nights. I stayed confused. it was good. But so confusing. But now I know she has a second one I do want to read it.
Can someone explain what to read so I can read the Magnus chase series. All I've read is the Percy Jackson series, and if you do can you tell me in order of the series not the individual books! Thank you so much xx

I read Fan Girl and hated the fan fiction part so I feel like I would hate Carry On. I hope you love it once you get around to reading it though!!
I love Carry On!!!
i just finished the thousandth floor yesterday, and i would read the goodreads review section or do some googling because one of the main plot points is an extremely taboo subject in most of the world. other than that its like a futuristic gossip girl & pretty little liars combined

I know a lot of readers loved Carry On...but it wasn't really for me it was ok but not great....but that's just me though.

Carry On isn't inspired by Harry Potter, it's copied from Harry Potter
can I read Carry On without reading Fangirl??
Ester Lolo Yes
+Marybeth Buskirk thanks
Heads up for Carry On: The first third reads like a bad Harry Potter rip-off and then suddenly gets really good. There's some bi erasure, which bothers me, but other than that, I liked it.
yes! Before Baz i found it so so bad and like love triangle-y and gross and then baz dramatically walks in and i just fell in love
yes! the only thing that bothered me was the bi-erasure, but overall the story is just so amazing, i didn't even really compare it to harry potter.
I just read a thousand nights and I really didn't like it because of the writing style :/
25'th like
