I always look forward to your videos!! You were the first booktuber I started to watch and follow. After my whole hunger games dystopian phase I sort of stopped reading. Then I started watching your videos (I don't even remember how I found them) and your enthousiasm reminded me of how I loved to read when I was younger. Thank you for all the effort you put into making these videos!!
Anukriti Verma I read the beginning because someone at school read it but it was 1) so confusing as a script 2) so fucking dumb and I didn't understand it because of Scopius and the time turner thing I just didn't understand and I stopped reading because I couldn't follow the script I just couldn't follow it
Totally agree that book was crap, BUT IT WAS NOT BY JK ROWLING!!! It was completely written by Jack Thorne. It was based on the series by jk Rowling so read a little closer on the cover😬 please please please do not associate that book with jk Rowling because she and the Harry Potter is incredible.
I had some major flops for me as well this year like the Star-Touched Queen, Me Before You, and the All for the Game trilogy by Nora Sakavic (I couldn't even finish it) also of the three LGBT books you mentioned, Simon Vs is my fave because it's just fun and the characters act like teenagers. I'd also recommend If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo
OMG GOD BLESS YOU. I'm with you on Cursed Child. My number least favorite read of 2016 along with Red Queen and Obsidian. Overhype books I really didn't enjoy
Hiya Hailey! Would you consider creating a sort of meta video, talking about the writing styles you enjoy, the ones you don't, and why that is? Also, perhaps, how you prefer stories to be structured, how you approach your understanding of the characters, your thoughts on anthropomorphizing non-human facets of stories (such as, why you didn't like the personification of the sea in The Siren)? I know it would be a different style of video for you, but I think it is one you would enjoy. Thanks! Happy holidays!
An amazing lgbt is Give Light by Rose Christo, it' such a beautiful story!!! The Native American theme is so interesting and you learn so much about the culture too :)
THIS YEAR WAS A REALLY GOOD READING YEAR FOR ME. I DIDN'T READ A SINGLE BAD BOOK AND I AM SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT!! I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO READ THE MARA DYER TRILOGY AND YOU ARE THE SECOND PERSON WHO SAID THAT THE THIRD BOOK IS NOT THAT GREAT. THINK I AM NOT GONNA READ THE THIRD BOOK UNLESS I AM TOO EAGER TO KNOW HOW THE TRILOGY ENDED!!! P.S- GREAT VIDEO!! LOVING YOUR BOOKMAS VIDEOS!!
I think that you should read the third book if you loved the first two. Me neither, I didn't really like the third one but a lot of questions are answered in the third one
The Mara Dyer trilogy is one of my favourite series! I would still recommend the final book, even though it's not great, just so you can see how the series wraps up.
LGBTQ+ Good Books (in my opinion) :) : Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan, Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo, Symptoms of Being a Human by Jeff Garvin, George by Alex Gino, I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I wanted to throw the siren out of my window and everyone loved it. she did nothing but mope about how much she loved him and I can't even remember what else happened.
omg i am reading the siren now, i got it from a publisher for a review. I am looooving it! I do think it is a little weird how she goes to the ocean and talks to it etc. but the other things are great so far!
I'm so sad to hear you didn't like The Siren! I read the sneak peek in Happily Ever After from the selection. I'm still going to read it but sucks that it doesn't seem to be getting as much good attention as The Selection. Great video!
Also, I totally agree about Cursed Child. I hate that story and it really irritates me when people say it's because I'm judging it as a book NO IM JUDGING IT AS A SHITTY PLOT THAT MAKES THE CHARACTERS UNRECOGNIZABLE
I had a pretty good reading year, so most of my 'worst books' are still ok... - Eleanor & Park - Hunters Moon (german book) - Unrivaled - City of Heavenly Fire (what the fuck happened in this book..?) - Mr. Penumbras 24-hour bookstore All these books may be good, but just not for me. And then there is Harry Potter and the cursed child which is BY FAR the worst story (!) I've read not only this year, but ever.
***** I don't know, I just thought it was kind of boring... And I didn't like any of the characters, so I couldn't really connect with the book. I had the same issue with Fangirl, although I thought it was better than Eleanor & Park.
Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is written in a pretty conventional style, and it's a really cute, feel-good read. Also, it doesn't take long to get through at all, if you're looking for something quick! :)
I love to read, but something happens when I have to read it for class. I have to literally drag me through the book. Even if it's a fiction and my teachers is pretty up to date with the new books. I really liked this video. I always like watching people tell their opinions on books. Good or bad. It's the whole reason I watch Booktube videoes and you would think it was normal on Booktube. So no judgment from here. I look forward to your next video.:D
When I saw your coment about "The Siren" it totally reminded me of "The Drowning Girl" that I read this year. I'm brazilian and here we don't have a lot of publisher who make really good book editions, like hard cover pretty ones haha but there's this new one called "darkside" that make this kind of good work on book editions and because of that they can basically make any book sell around here haha And that's what happened with TDG, had this big hype about this book bc darkside launched a really pretty edition and is all about a schizophrenic girls who talks about have found a siren and... Idk this book is sooo weird haha I saw on Goodreads that this book don't really have a good rate and Isn't very well known and I understand why... The book isn't bad but was one of the hardest readings of the year for me.
Simon Vs The Homosapien Agenda, You Know Me Well, and Hero are all really good LGBT themed books! And a disappointment book that I actually recommend since it's super solid until the end is The Truth About Alice. I think it can only redeem itself with a sequel.
Same with The cursed child, I was so excited and it let down. If you want some lgbt books there are a few good lists on goodreads and I also have a video about books with asexual characters
I really get what you mean with The Cursed Child. As an eighth part of the Harry Potter series it is definitely a disapointment, but I think you'll just have to see it like a play. It's also not just written by Rowling but together with playwriters. So I think as the eighth part of Harry Potter it is quite bad, but as a play i think it will be amazing. What do you guys think?
I'm not crazy about most LGBT books I've read either (most bore me the same way romance books do tbh, since I feel like they're very formulaic). But I do love We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson (feel like I've spelled that wrong). It's got a very unique plot and it's beautifully written. There's also the original LGBT book, Other Voices Other Rooms by one of my favorite authors Truman Capote. It came out in the 40s, so it might be a little harder to read and understand, but it's worth a looking into.
It would be cool if you did a book recommadation of books with well developed lgbtq+ characters, not just lgbtq reads. Because its also importante to have representation in not only contemporary books and that the lgbtq aspect not be the only main focus. Like mortal instruments, trials of apollo, six of crows, magnus chase ... We need too make authors integrate more diverse chracters in all sorts of books!
IDK if you've read this but you should read Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. It is one of my favorites. Also you should read My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.
If you're looking for good LGBT books I would highly recommend All for the game series by Nora Sakavic. It's about a fictional sport called Exy which is similar to lacrosse, and has amazing characters and deals with a lot of sensitive subjects really well. Even if you don't like sports it's still a fantastic series.
The story of Cursed Child is so awful, especially Part 1. However I watched the play rather than read the script and it is the best piece of theatre I have ever seen! Definitely suits a play rather than book
I'm currently reading Stolen by Lucy Christopher and I doubt I'm going to finish it. Since its around Christmas and we're getting out for break I wanted a quick read and I thought this would be one, but since it's written as a letter it has no chapters and it has taken me a long time to read it. Maybe if I had just sat down and read it all at once it wouldn't have taken this long. But I don't enjoy the story either. It just drags out and I'm really disappointed in this book. I was really looking forward to reading it but the writing style and storyline makes it almost unbearable lol. Maybe if I read it another time of year when I'm not so stressed I would have enjoyed it.
I hated the horse and his boy, seeker. but books that dissapointed me are half bad (it's one of my friends favorites), lola and the boy next door (liked isla more but nothing compares to anna) & the kiss of deception
I wish you had enjoyed The Siren. It is one of my favorites. I do agree with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I feel like J.K. Rowling should have had more of a say in it.
It wasn't an issue with the video, but the app glitched when I started playing the video, so the initial greeting sounded like shyriiwook. It was very amusing.
I also really enjoy your videos. I'm surprised you didn't enjoy the cursed child although I agree that it wasn't as good as the original Harry Potter series. I kind of like to pretend that it's more of something that didn't happen in the HP universe but a completely separate story
To be fair, Cursed Child wasn't written by JK Rowling and it's nothing like the novels... but I can definitely see where you're coming from on that one. I think it's a love it or hate it situation... not many people on the fence.
i know this has nothing to do (kind of) with the video but doesn't it bother you starting a book in december and not being able to finish it before the end of the year...? because i feel like i neeeeed to finish it before so i can start a new one in january, is it just me?
OMG TOTALLY AGREE ON YOUR OPINION OF THE CURSED CHILD. Like, the book didn't portray the characters as they should be (based on the Harry Potter saga) there where sooooo many plot holes, the hole idea of time travel was different than the one J.K Rowling proposed in the main serie, it was just a mess. For me it was more like a fanfiction, honestly I just pretend that that it's not what really happened in the future. Such a disappointment
the cursed child is not by jk Rowling. she just gave it a thumbs up for making a play, pretty much it. it tells you on the title who the authors really are.
Exit Pursued By Bear is one of my reading flops this year. That was a really bad read. I took your advice on reading it since you steered me right with My Lady Jane (one of my favorite books this year), but it was so awful. I just didn't like the cheerleading theme I guess. Plus I assumed it would be more like A Winter's Tale.
J.K Rowling confirmed that The Cursed Child wasn't all her writing, and she said that she reviews the book as fanfiction, many people disliked this book, but it's a script, of course it will be different than the original series.
I absolutely agree with you on Harry Potter and the cursed child. I'm a huge fan of hp and its a really big part of my life. Reading this book I almost cried because I really don't like it although I wanted to love it. There's so much that bothers me and in the end they shipped Scorpius with Rose which doesn't make sense at all, neither from my personal opinion nor from the rest of the story. Not to mention the mad trolley lady 😐
on lesbian books in LGBTQ+ books I know I few that I think are really good. there are all the Sarah waters books, specially fingersmith, in fantasy there's Ash and Huntress by Malinda Lo (and there's more but I Haven't read them yet) in contemporary (I think is contemporary) there's the miseducation of Cameron Post, there's also colorblind, though I didn't like this book that much, but it's short and cute. And I have mixed feelings with Harry Potter and the cursed child, I LOVE Albus and Scorpius, specially Scorpius 💜 and they are how I imagined them to be and I love them, but the story it's just terrible and I wish I could see the play to judge better because I'm sure the play is better, but I'm form Latin america so I think I'll never be able to see it :') yeah :') totally fine with that.
if you didn't like Ari and Dante, or more happy than not you probably won't like Simon vs the homo sapiens agenda. but you might like the song of Achilles
My least favourite books of 2016 1. The bell jar by Sylvia Plath 2. Lost symbol by Dan Brown 3. Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins 4. HP and the cursed child.
sorry, i cant think of a cool name name I am 52 and read The Bell Jar- it was more like a setting for my mom when she was a teenager. I read it, and passed the book on. It is kind if out of date now for people under 50. If you are into watching movies from the 50's then it will make sense.
Yup, I agree with your opinion on the Cursed Child. You are not alone.
I just think you are so pretty. I love those red and green lights on your bookshelf. Hope you are having a good holiday season.
I totally second your opinion on The Cursed Child. It was a disappointment.
Smug and Pug Cursed Child was a big disappointment, however Fantastic Beasts was actually quite good!
LadyWoods13 Haven't read that one.May be I should :)
Anukriti Verma I read the beginning because someone at school read it but it was 1) so confusing as a script 2) so fucking dumb and I didn't understand it because of Scopius and the time turner thing I just didn't understand and I stopped reading because I couldn't follow the script I just couldn't follow it

Her name is the biggest one on the cover haha. I don't think she wrote it but she did have a hand in it.
Hailey In Bookland
JK only approved that they could publish it. It was written by the other authors.
It definetily wasnt Jo
Aww I love More Happy Than Not...but to each their own. I'm still loving these Bookmas videos!
Read Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda asap! It's so good and cute
I had some major flops for me as well this year like the Star-Touched Queen, Me Before You, and the All for the Game trilogy by Nora Sakavic (I couldn't even finish it)

OMG GOD BLESS YOU. I'm with you on Cursed Child. My number least favorite read of 2016 along with Red Queen and Obsidian. Overhype books I really didn't enjoy
I just want to say your hair is so gorgeous! Hair goals, for real! :)
The cursed child was not a book. It was a semi fraudulent project. Really shameful.
The Siren is literally the next book on my TBR. We'll see how it goes for me.
BTW, love your vids.
Yay! I am Early! I love your videos Hailey I am totally in the Bookmas Spirit! 📚🎄😊
Hiya Hailey! Would you consider creating a sort of meta video, talking about the writing styles you enjoy, the ones you don't, and why that is? +JAsmine Ong Great!! Thanks!!
+Chloe Cui I'll do it!! Thanks!!
The Mara Dyer trilogy is one of my favourite series! I would still recommend the final book, even though it's not great, just so you can see how the series wraps up.

Your bookmas vids are great!
Totally agree to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.. I hated it to bits! I'll never read it ever again and will pretend it doesn't exist 😐
Debolina Roy I gave up reading it because I was just like "this is not Harry Potter" and gave up cause I hated it
I haven't read any of these!
I wanted to read The Siren because of The Selection as well but still haven't even gotten a copy of it!
omg i am reading the siren now, i got it from a publisher for a review. I am looooving it! I do think it is a little weird how she goes to the ocean and talks to it etc. but the other things are great so far!
I loved the siren so much 😂❤️

+Kashish wasn't it set in the 80s though?
Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is written in a pretty conventional style, and it's a really cute, feel-good read. Also, it doesn't take long to get through at all, if you're looking for something quick! :)
I finally read Pride and Prejudice - loved it. Then, I read The Lizzie Diaries- a Pride and Prejudice for the 2016's.
My worst reads of the year are: Go Ask Alice, Fangirl, The 5th Wave, If I Stay, Uglies, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
I really loved Simon vs the homo sapiens agenda!! I hope you do too
Merel Kool it's definitely one of my favorite books
Moriah Jones really??!! That's awesome ❤
Merel Kool it was such a fun read how could I not love it😄
Simen vs the Homo sapiens agenda is soooo good 😍
Is that a one direction calendar on the wall? :)
When I saw your coment about "The Siren" it totally reminded me of "The Drowning Girl" that I read this year. I really didn't like More Happy Than Not either! I felt like I was the only one.
you are so brave saying cursed child sucks lol! So proud of u ♡
Is the Mara Dyer trilogy worth reading if the last one is bad?
hey there will always be books we have different opinions about it , and maybe not like it (example Truth Witch) but others love it
Yay Hailey thanks for featuring my video ☺☺
I didn't know the Outsiders was a classic lol so I guess I did read one classic this year (it was for school and I rate it ❤❤❤.5 / ❤❤❤❤❤
I'm not crazy about most LGBT books I've read either (most bore me the same way romance books do tbh, since I feel like they're very formulaic). But I do love We Are the Ants by Shaun David Hutchinson (feel like I've spelled that wrong). It's got a very unique plot and it's beautifully written. I will not accept the cursed child as canon in my personal life, such a disappointment 😔
I love unpopular opinions. My least favourite reads were Red Queen, Empire of Storms, ACOTAR (loved book two though), and Soundless
the cursed child felt really fanfictiony
IDK if you've read this but you should read Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. It is one of my favorites. Also you should read My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows.
by the way these were my favorite reads this year and 2017 is going to be the year i try to read 100 books.
For LGBT recs try George by Alex Gino!!
ErBreathesBooks I read that and I really loved it, I saw it on instagram and the owner of the account recommended it to me
CJ Dangerfield That's so cool! It's such an amazing read!
I think that 'Girl Heart Girl By Lucy Sutcliffe' is a good LGBT book! Let me know if anyone has read it and what they think of it.
For an LGBT recommendation the book Poxy by Alex London, its duology and its a dystopian type novel with a main character being gay. Really enjoyed it
The story of Cursed Child is so awful, especially Part 1. However I watched the play rather than read the script and it is the best piece of theatre I have ever seen! Definitely suits a play rather than book
I totally agree with Harry Potter and the cursed child. I tried to like it but I just couldn't bring myself to do it 😣
Totally agree with wishing the mara dyer was just a duology. I hated the third book. I did not even get through it. So disappointing
Second love you Hailey😘
For LGBT YA, I would recommend Just Juliet by Charlotte Reagan and If I Was Your Girl! :-)
More Happy Than Not??? Daaaaamn
I thought day 6 was 6 books i wish i read in 2016?
For me it was The last star. It was so dissapointing after all that waiting
I loved Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, but I respect your opinion :')
Cursed Child was a disappointment for me
I wish you had enjoyed The Siren. It is one of my favorites. I do agree with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I feel like J.K. Rowling should have had more of a say in it.
I love you. You are so amazing.
It wasn't an issue with the video, but the app glitched when I started playing the video, so the initial greeting sounded like shyriiwook. It was very amusing.
I've never been this early!
For LGBT books you should try The Song Of Achilles (my favourite book of all time) and The Abyss Surrounds Us :))
i know this has nothing to do (kind of) with the video but doesn't it bother you starting a book in december and not being able to finish it before the end of the year...? because i feel like i neeeeed to finish it before so i can start a new one in january, is it just me?
Nope, not at all!! I hate it too..It's extremely annoying
Carry on by rainbow rowell is a really great lgbt book :)
Street dreams by Tama Wise is an amazing lgbt book
the cursed child is not by jk Rowling. she just gave it a thumbs up for making a play, pretty much it. it tells you on the title who the authors really are.
I really didn't like Alice in Zombieland and didn't care much for Tiger's Curse. Other than that.. I did enjoy most of what I read this year.
but day 6 was 6 books I wish I read in 2016
Exit Pursued By Bear is one of my reading flops this year. That was a really bad read. I took your advice on reading it since you steered me right with My Lady Jane (one of my favorite books this year), but it was so awful. I just didn't like the cheerleading theme I guess. Plus I assumed it would be more like A Winter's Tale.
#Bookmas I have finished the third book
still looking good little lady
J.K Rowling confirmed that The Cursed Child wasn't all her writing, and she said that she reviews the book as fanfiction, many people disliked this book, but it's a script, of course it will be different than the original series.
Yes, some people don't know that.
***** Im not acting that i gave those info, i know people who does not know these info about the book :))))
lr2ldn I'm a potterhead and I didn't know :)
I thought this was supposed to be six books you wish you read
More Happy Than Not actually made my top 10 books 😂
So did Aristotle and Dante
I loved Harry Potter ❤❤
I absolutely agree with you on Harry Potter and the cursed child. I'm a huge fan of hp and its a really big part of my life. Reading this book I almost cried because I really don't like it although I wanted to love it. There's so much that bothers me and in the end they shipped Scorpius with Rose which doesn't make sense at all, neither from my personal opinion nor from the rest of the story. Not to mention the mad trolley lady 😐
Wanted to throw a clockwork orange at the writer's head. Hated it.
a tale of two cities by charles dickens really wasn't for me :/
The 3rd Mara Dyer was the worst. I was so disappointed in it. :( But I do have to say that I loved the Cursed Child.
The great video🙌🏻 Can you advise the best LGBT 🏳️🌈 book you've ever read? Thanks🙏🏻
also you look lovely🙈❤️
Cursed Child was my least favorite read of 2016
Omygawd though you dont like aristotle and dante?!!!! Okay imma calm down. Now i might still not read cursed child. Scared af hahaha
If I was your girl is quite a good LGBT book
Jemma TeamTDM I've just brought it today 😂 I hope it is

I LOVED it!!
Oh and Happy New Year!
-From UK
I'd really love LGBT book recommendations!!! 💙 ugh i just feel so weird about most of lgbt books or movies, I'd just love a normal love story!!
I've never been this early
on lesbian books in LGBTQ+ books I know I few that I think are really good. there are all the Sarah waters books, specially fingersmith, in fantasy there's Ash and Huntress by Malinda Lo (and there's more but I Haven't read them yet) in contemporary (I think is contemporary) there's the miseducation of Cameron Post, there's also colorblind, though I didn't like this book that much, but it's short and cute.
Ooooook. To any actual LGBTQ people looking for recommendations, Aristotle and Donte Discover the Secrets of the Universe is absolutely wonderful.
if you didn't like Ari and Dante, or more happy than not you probably won't like Simon vs the homo sapiens agenda. but you might like the song of Achilles
My least favourite books of 2016
1. The bell jar by Sylvia Plath
2. Lost symbol by Dan Brown
3. Anna and the French kiss by Stephanie Perkins
4. HP and the cursed child.
sorry, i cant think of a cool name name
Nothing can be worse than the bell jar.
sorry, i cant think of a cool name name I am 52 and read The Bell Jar- it was more like a setting for my mom when she was a teenager. I read it, and passed the book on. It is kind if out of date now for people under 50. If you are into watching movies from the 50's then it will make sense.
I agree with the Siren book. It was awful for me.
a great lgbt book.. down to the bone by Mayra dole:)
