    Sounds interesting. Is it possible to use putting mac to sleep and waking it up as events triggering signals automations? I’d like to bring back classic mac “breathing” led light during its sleep on my mac studio, externally with some homkit connected lightbulb or LED strip.

    Great video man, and this was a solution a was looking for as I use a switchbot hub the switch on my entertainment devices via a shortcut and I wanted to be able to trigger that with a button for my kids, and now I think I will be able to do it with this solution. I will try now... Regards from 🇦🇴🇳🇦

    I downloaded this and it is cool, but I’m struggling with any shortcuts that are used on the phone. So I wanted to run a shortcut that shows the Apple TV remote on my phone, but it won’t run because the Mac shortcuts doesn’t support it. How can you do these things? Otherwise this doesn’t do much good I fee

    Hello Shane, as always your video is very useful, I always take a reference from your channel to build my house automation, but I need some help.
    I live in South East Asia, therefore because of shipping price and time, USA and EU product is out of my reach. I'm currently using Hoobs to connect, but every few days Hoobs isn't responding, and it is painful to restart the service everytime it failed.
    So I'm considering to buy better Homekit integration. My Homekit option is limited to Aqara, Mi product, and some lesser known Chinese certified brand (last option). Before full diving into one of these brand, and buying their hub, I need to know their integrity and reliability with Homekit, also their device and sensors variety. I want to hear your thought on my case. I really apreciate your help, kind regards. -Rifky

      Hey, thanks for watching and supporting the channel! I'm a big fan of the Aqara products. I have used many in my home for a long time. They are affordable, fast and reliable in my experience.

    Did I mention that I love this video? :) Overcoming the HomeKit vs. personal automations is a big deal. I’ll be using it for opening the Surveil Stream app on Apple TV, when X happens.
    EDIT: Just found out that the shortcuts involving other apps on the iPhone don't work on Mac. So I can't use my Shortcut for opening a specific app on Apple TV from my mac. A bit disappointing after purchasing Signal just for this :(

    • @timmy8784
      @timmy8784 Рік тому

      This is exactly what happened to me. I am struggling to see the point of this now since you can’t do personal automations. This seems to be about the same as convert to shortcut

    Hi man, thanks again for a great video. I downloaded the App and setup a automation to run a shortcut created on switchbot to be triggered by the press of a flic button. The log on the log shows response but the shortcut don't run, can you help or give me the developer details? I can't see on the App.

    I assume this works well when you have a dedicated mac that’s always on. I think a Mac mini would work well for this purpose vs a MacBook.

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 роки тому

      Yes I agree completely. Any desktop Mac would probably be ideal. But a MacBook works well too if you leave it plugged in as I do.

    • @mattcorey3145
      @mattcorey3145 2 роки тому +2

      I use a MacBook Air that I have leave plugged in on my desk, and it works great (fair warning -- I'm the developer :) ). I will add that there are a lot of different types of Shortcuts possible on the Mac, including some incredible productivity-based shortcuts -- in many of these cases, you're using your Mac already, so even if you're not always plugged in, you can take advantage of these. Get a few HomeKit buttons, and you can simulate the effect that you could get from a StreamDeck.

    So can i trigger a home kit scene or action automatically without user interaction based on certain email?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 роки тому

      🤔 I'm not sure about that... probably not. The stuff in the video is more for the other way around.... i.e. send an email when a homekit accessory is turned on/off. The signals app lets you run shortcuts based on homekit triggers.
      Since there are no automation options in the Shortcuts app on Mac (only on iPhone), you can still only configure that on the iPhone, which does seem to still require user interaction when triggered.

    Have Aqara system and trying to get my iPhone to announce the front door bell being pressed but can't seem to do it?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 роки тому

      You can setup custom notifications (automation) in the Aqara app for something like that.

    • @frankcellini9363
      @frankcellini9363 2 роки тому

      @@ShaneCreates Thanks for your suggestion... I have already done that but was hoping to do something more obvious... so I tried to get Siri to announce the notification but could not get it working... maybe I can get a shortcut to turn on/flash lights as you show in your video. Love your videos, keep up the good work.

  • @tombe1412

    I don’t understand the use for this very well. If you can do all those things in iOS, why would we need an extra Mac version also? Or are there big exclusive features in this app?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 роки тому +1

      WIth iOS, there is not way to execute a personal shortcut via HomeKit action. A simple example: in the intro, I used a HomeKit button to execute a personal shortcut that sends a text message. There is no way to do that without using shortcuts on the Mac. Hope that helps explain it a little.

    • @mattcorey3145
      @mattcorey3145 2 роки тому

      @@ShaneCreates Yep -- even with the 'Convert to Shortcut' feature, HomeKit automations by default has very limited capabilities. Signals for HomeKit can unlock the potential of all of the 3rd Party Shortcuts that you may already have

    Big news for me? Hook a spare chrome cast that I have to a monitor, and use that as the display for a HomePod mini. So, hey Siri, show me wiring for X project or something and it appears on the screen. Unless Apple has a native solution that cheap? HomePod is just a better audio/mic device than an iPad so far as I can tell and can be made mobile. I have the chrome cast on the shelf here. I have a 19in monitor or four in the garage. Display schematics and tutorials, with the audio of the home pod mini with Siri voice commands would be killer. (Yeah, I know it won't work as well as I hope, but I can dream like Tony Stark, can't I? Chromecast is relating to the college kid upstairs preferring Google. I prefer Apple. But she'll move out before too long, so bye bye her google home, but I want the system to still work. Her mom and I both have iPhones and iMacs). Is something like that possible?

    • @ShaneCreates
      @ShaneCreates  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Erik. I'm not completely sure what you are asking. Currently Google products, such as Chrome Cast, and Apple products like the HomePod mini, don't integrate together. Currently, if you tell a HomePod, "show me wiring for ..." she'll respond with "ok, I found some web results. I'll send them to your iPhone."
      You might be able to get creative and make some cool things if you combine a Mac mini to your garage setup. Use a HomePod mini as audio output. Create some shortcuts that run on the Mac? IDK, just a thought. I'm sure there are some nice possibilities there.
