You are correct on every statement here, unlike almost everyone else who has commented on this aircraft and engine. Good job. Have you worked on the Centaurus engine and the Sea Fury? I have, at Sanders Aircraft in California back in the early 1980s, where I was also their parachute rigger.
@@wilburfinnigan2142 As someone who has worked on a Centaurus, they definitely arent junk. they are a beautiful piece of precision engineering, but sadly very difficult to get parts for. Pratt and Whitney R 2800. Sweet. Around 1990 there was a Sea Fury named Cotton Mouth flying the Northwest air show circuit. We did some formation flying with him. One of the best pilots I ever saw. We were in a Douglas A 26. Lots of round motors. Nothing like that sound. If anyone has video of Portland Rose Festival.air show for 1990 it would be great to post that. Thank you for this video. Hawker made great planes and the Sea Fury is my favorite.
To anyone asking why it doesn't have a centarus in it it is because they are really rare and almost no spare parts unlike the American radials like r2800 which were produced in much higher numbers
andrea eyeroll "the Centaurus is a shitty motor with many problems" Do you have incontrovertible technical evidence for this, or are you just repeating another UA-cam commenter? If the Centaurus was indeed a "shitty motor", can you explain why the British used it for so long?
@@MarsFKA my bad not shitty motor but still a bad motor there was a sea fury in duxford with the Centaurus and I talk with the mecanician and they sayed that they change the Centaurus for another motor actually don't know if it's the Wright because they had too much trouble with the Centaurus
andrea eyerolle Yes, such a bad motor, with so many problems that they made 2,500 of them. The only things really "bad" about the engine, which is now more than seventy years old, are that it was/still is more complex than conventional radial engines and that parts and mechanics experienced in working on the type are becoming harder to find. I, too, have spoken to a former Centaurus mechanic, who worked on Sea Furys, and he said that they had a very hard time with the engine, simply because of its complexity. Yet this bad engine powered, and still does power, the last and best of all the piston engine fighter aircraft. Your post provoked a response from me because throwaway comments like "shitty" and "bad", with no other elaboration or expansion are quite often made by people who have no idea what they are talking about.

Alain Charles LEROY It was the royal navy's last piston engined fighter, originally built at the "tempest light fighter" the prototype flew in 1944 and was given the name Fury, it was essentially a tempest II with a cutdown fuselage, similar wings and a new tail. However the RAF had loads of new tempests and didn't have interest in the fury, the fleet air arm however did. After Bolton Paul had "navalised" the Fury it became the seafury. It entered service in 1947 and would stay in service till 1954.

waynester71, Sea Fury can lift twice the weight with the 4360
Inline V12?
@@patmclean1951 Nope 28 cylinder 4 row corncob engine !!!
And it's also because the Centaurus is a complicated motor hard to repair
Sanders have one in California that runs great.

"the Centaurus is a shitty motor with many problems"
Do you have incontrovertible technical evidence for this, or are you just repeating another UA-cam commenter?
If the Centaurus was indeed a "shitty motor", can you explain why the British used it for so long?
@@MarsFKA my bad not shitty motor but still a bad motor there was a sea fury in duxford with the Centaurus and I talk with the mecanician and they sayed that they change the Centaurus for another motor actually don't know if it's the Wright because they had too much trouble with the Centaurus
andrea eyerolle
Yes, such a bad motor, with so many problems that they made 2,500 of them.
Es ist immer wieder schön die hawker sea fury in bitz auf am degerfeld am Flugtag zu sehen und danke an alle anderen himmel hund die es schaffen Jahr für Jahr für uns Zuschauer diese Engel der lüfte zu zeigen
That gave me goose bumps!
I could listen to this beast start up all day, superb video....again 😂
love the sound of radial engines
Roaring sound brings me „Gänsehaut“
anamazing unforgettable airplane, reminding us Typhoon and Tempest
Goddam that’s a beautiful bird and a great job of flying it. The scream as it passes low and fast is just phenomenal. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Robert Cairns the old war birds just have a sound of their own that you just won’t ever hear again.
The only classic plane who shoot a jet (Mig 15) in Korea !If you know more of a history, tell us more please !
Alain Charles LEROY
It was the royal navy's last piston engined fighter, originally built at the "tempest light fighter" the prototype flew in 1944 and was given the name Fury, it was essentially a tempest II with a cutdown fuselage, similar wings and a new tail. However the RAF had loads of new tempests and didn't have interest in the fury, the fleet air arm however did. After Bolton Paul had "navalised" the Fury it became the seafury. It entered service in 1947 and would stay in service till 1954.
Alain The F82 twin mustang, the F51 Mustang and the F4U corsair ALL shot down jets in Korea !!! Oooooh also the B29's got several !!!
Magnificent video capturing a Seafury at it's best. The R2800 and Centaurus easily up there with the best sounding Piston engines!
this one has the PW R2800 engine in it !!!!!!!
@@wilburfinnigan2142 ... Hence I put R2800 in my comment...
BEAUTIFUL!
A beautiful display from a beautiful aircraft.
OMG! Such a beautiful machine! Just amazing! thanks for posting. Recommend watching this video with Hans Zimmer's Dunkirk Supermarine music on the background ;) fits nicely. Regards from Russian ))
The Aussies had these .
as a young man i would marvel at the sight and sound the lines were beautiful AND it sounded like a jet as it flew past my favourite
Beautiful plane!
Lovely to see this glorious design having some energy put through her. The Centaurus is an amazing engine
hethel8 Hey dum dum.....did you notice the FOUR bladed Prop ???? Know what that means ??? This planedoes not have the Centaurus engine !!!! DUUUUHHHH!!!!!! They had to put a GOOD AMERICAN PW R 2800 in it !!!!! Centaurus uses a FIVE BLADED prop, also READ the damn heading !!!

@@andrewjowsey1333 NOPE !!! Straight to the point to all the dum @$$'s that spout $hit that ain't true !!! And I am NEVER misunderstood either !!! DUUUUHH!!!!
Superb vid mate!!!
What a beauty! It is definately among the best looking prop fighters ever made. Just look at that nose, mh! Would have loved to see her in the 2 tone camo but she is pretty either way. Almost as pretty as a FW190 D9. And that is extremely high praise from me
TOO BEAUTIFUL!
Fantastic! Cameraman did a great job following it, too.
It looks like the Dora and the Spitfire had a baby!
Oh yeah! Big thanks for this to the uploader.
Rapid...and flies like it's on a rail.
Awesome
Excellent footage of a top-class display. This is an awesome aeroplane and brilliant piloted. Very enjoyable!
Funny how all the commenters pretending to be so knowledgeable about this needing the Centaur engine seem to have no knowledge about the facts that Centaurs are becoming impossible to maintain because there are almost no parts left...
A fate that will eventually befall all piston warbirds.
Indeed. It’s just silly to make any kind of complain considering the amount of effort involved in having this airplane airworthy.
If there was truly *that* much effort put into this plane, they could have commissioned a factory just to make new engines and parts.
Sir David Beatty It’s always refreshing to see that a complete lack of any sense of reality doesn’t stop people from replying...
The reality being that anything previously manufactured can still be manufactured given the time, effort, and money?
Marvellous demonstration of induced drag....look at the vortices at high alpha on take-off compared to the fast passes
Wow, they've put different wings on that FW-190!
Lmao
Right?!?!
The nose is a spitting image of a 190!
Def some reverse engineering gone on there.
Very similar to FW190 developed from Hawker Typhoon then Hawker Tempest then stick a radial on front. It’s amazing when pushed people come up with similar solutions. Darwinian. Engine was a brute well done Bristol.
Dave Crupel It is a radial engine most noses will look the same there is a compromise between air flow for cooling and extra drag. It’s a fine edge and the look the same because they got the same result.
Or any of the Japanese radials from '43 onwards.
Oh man... Gorgeous, nice work that man!
