A guy that's wire management and organization is so on point that he can put lights UNDER his desk gives me huge imposter syndrome. I placate myself by insisting your garage is a mess. Fun stuff. Thanks!
When you pushed the desk out of the way, for the standing shot, I was totally convinced you were going to start dancing. The space looks sooo much more usable now. Must be such a relief.
Your studio makes your thumbnails so attractive. I've always wondered how u lit the studio. Amazing studio setup, one of the best on UA-cam if not the best. Welldone Tom
I'm so impressed with your knowledge and commitment to making your studio space as ideal as it can be! I've already learned so much from your videos, and I still learn more from you all the time. You're inspiring, Tom!

You are the best!!! Ive been watching since covid started and so many of your videos and reviews have been very important for me in my own channel growth. I use 2 desk setups in my shop and it's much more usable and gives me multiple options for editing, recording, and livestreams. Thank you so much for your great content!!!! Take care, Bill

LOVE that everything is on wheels and modular. For your camera/mic setup on your work desk, I've been using the Viozon 6-in-1 desk stand that clamps to my desk. It currently supports my A7IV with a teleprompter, a small mic that I boom overhead, an Aputure MC that I use for a little fill light and a lightweight15" monitor that I use as a multiview so I can see myself or my overhead when filming. It's nice because you can push everything out of the way when I'm just working (95% of desk time). The included mic boom arm is one of the trash $15 ones you can get, so I replaced it. Just gotta find one that fits in the same hole on the mount.
@@tombuck Yeah I looked at the Gear Tree stuff too but it seemed a little overly complicated. Shoutout to Caleb Pike for making his video about the Viozon desk stand that I'm talking about. I also own their stand that is on wheels plus I use a smaller height one to mount my RCPII. So I guess I'm kinda all in on their system now since I can mix/match arms/accessories between them all. Take a look at his video though if you're interested. I think it's called "This $130 Video Desk Setup Rocks!"
Another very inspirational video Tom. While I’m just limited to a space at the end on our dining room that’s open to most of the house you did give me some ideas I can use. Moving my camera/teleprompter setup to a stand with wheels similar to what you have is a possible start. I’ve already looked into making that change after watching that video. I’m already planning on buying one of those Husky adjustable height work tables. I’ve seen those on several different channels. I even have my wife’s approval for the expenditure. It will be a great improvement over the desk I’m currently using. Unfortunately my space doesn’t have space a second desk/table setup like you’ve moved to but I could add a lot of different angles for my shots just by making those changes. Thanks again for your channel and all your efforts to help those of us who are trying to create videos.
So glad things have been helpful! The rolling camera stand really does make a world of difference for a small space. They have a lot of different sizes of Husky desks, but I stuck with the 46" one and it works really well.
wow man, definitively u have been an inspiration on how care about workflow, quality and visuals in the videos for a long ago for me, I'm glad to be able to see your evolution. Keep rocking!
I’ve always loved the look of the studio, but you nailed it on functionality now! Stoked for you to have a spot like this and it’s inspired me to try a couple of things out in my own!
From a “cinematic” perspective, the flow of your commentary between the cuts and setting changes is unbelievably seamless. I’m currently making some streamline improvements to my home studio as well, and this is quite thought provoking and inspiring.
I like it a lot Tom. Nicely done sir. I literally had this conversation with my wife two days ago about everything being on wheels to easily move and reconfigure my in-home production spaces. The true blessing is that I have is two dedicated spaces - one is the podcast studio which never changes and the other is for online meetings, music and video production. Again - awesome job and great tour. Thank you for you inspiration and contributions. ✌️
I've been looking for gear storage solutions and boy do I feel a little silly for not even contemplating rolling tool chests. I clearly don't watch enough gear videos!! Thanks for the inspiration!
And again, it's so awesome when you make these kinds of videos because it's always so inspiring and down to earth explained 😊🙌 And again, since I'm breaking down ALL my equipment in about a month due to moving, oh man, will I be checking out all these tips and angles, you bet! Thank you!
Great UA-cam Studio setup! I got the same mind set when it comes with lighting and platforms in my studio, kind of. 😁 I've never seen someone with tons of microphones, No wonder your sounds are pure quality... 😄
I applaud you for keeping your office tidy, clean and organized!! you should see my place! everything is really cluttered and every time I want to organize things I give up before I start because I know it will be allot of work! I use the room as storage, an office and a filming place!
Hey!! Glad you liked it, and yeah, I definitely think it's important to give reminders of the real-life human element to all this stuff sometimes, since what we see online can seem so perfect.
I like a good office/studio tour video! I also have the Husky desk as a second workspace, it is so versatile. Thanks for the generative fill tip with paper backgrounds, I never even thought of using that to solve the problem!
This studio tour of yours was the content I didn’t know I needed! Watching this was like savouring my favourite meal! Keep up the puns, Keep up the bright colours, And keep working on that pesky metric system 😅 Love your work! Annie G New Zealand
Thanks Annie! Always appreciate the kind words! I'll keep up with my conversions- I'm working on temperature because when I tell some of my non-American friends that it's "115 degrees out" they just look terrified and confused.
Getting space for that second table is going to be my next step. I can't do it in my current space but eventually the goal would be to get a bigger room so I can place the camera further away. Great setup!
Really nice and well thought out setup! I know it took me awhile to get my setup and after watching this I see I have several efficiency improvements I can make! I do have the two angles I can setup pretty easily, which is nice. A hand crank standing desk would be awesome, currently using an L-shaped desk now - which works, but no standing feature. And now I have to look at rolling toolboxes! I actually have a spot in my recording office where I could swap out the table that is there now and put in a toolbox and suddenly have way more storage, but still a clean look. Great video!
I also use the magic mouse. I abandoned it for a while because the tracking speed was so slow, but then I found a terminal hack and the tracking is ridiculously fast now.
Thanks Tom. This is a great video. We are just setting up our production rooms now for our new podcast/vlog/etc channels. We are starting a channel about autism. I always liked your content, and it's very informative. You have a great sounding and looking production. Thanks again for the information and content here driving us to get our set created. BTW, Love the Aquabats content.
Love the video. I try to make sure my studio is like baskin Robbin’s - 31 flavors of ice cream! Every video I make I try to change my background to keep things from getting stale, keep things fresh and exciting WHILE EFFICIENTLY managing my time (set-up and tear down) before and after the video
Welcome to 'wheel world' of studio space. I built mine this way 3 years ago and added ceiling suspended bars which has made a massive difference to light stands, cables and other tripping errors. i find it much more productive and the ability to swap out cheap chinese printed backdrops a great way to give the same space a different look.
Totally impressive studio setup! If you want speakers that are high enough rich sound quality but don't break the bank, I use Logitech Z207 multimedia speakers for less than $100 from Amazon. Other creators have also recommended these. Or if you prefer your headphones go with that. I like your Savage colored paper for creating product images, so far I only use white, I may have to get blue and pink now after seeing this. The 53 inch rolls work with a C stand, however I like your 3 roll setup on the wall which is convenient. I like your workbench on wheels which can store lots of equipment.
Having that standalone, dedicated «filming»-desk/surface area is sooo key for a well functioning space - I do something similar in my filming space, although I have a big workbench on wheels with shelves and storage in the middle of the room for filming, it does do double duty for projects/crafting my UA-cam-gear as well, *and* for mounting Roller Skates, so it does trippel duty and sometimes those things crash - but I then *always* have my separate working desk available for putting my laptop on and do some computer work, which is also where I have my audio card and monitor speakers set up. I often end up sitting at my workbench with my laptop though, just because it feels nice and all my stuff is within easy reach - so not perfect, but *way* better than having just *one* desk :) And of course: everything on wheels is a must :D
I did a thing. I sold my RCP2, last week. I’ve been using an Allen & Heath CQ12t. Is a pound heavier, and the XLR jacks input and output are all on top instead of on the back -making me have to unplug and re-plug when I scrub and set up. But! It has a smaller footprint, and I don’t have to have an outboard rig for occasional duo and group shows. Plus, it has auto gain control and intelligent feedback control. I have designed a 10-button MIDI foot controller for my lights and video, so I can change things during songs, in lieu of the RCP2 smart pads.
What an amazing and inspirational collection of gear. Talking about optimizing one's workflow: You've mentioned the Stream Deck pedal a few times, but I haven't seen other Stream Decks (XL or +) on your desk(s), e.g. for controlling the Prompter or changing scenes in e-camm. Have you tried these? Since I discovered these devices a few years ago, my workflow has improved so much and I can't imagine my desk without these anymore.
The Husky one from Home Depot is a bit higher quality, but only comes with the top part, which makes it more expensive. The Craftsman ones are a bit more affordable since you can buy just the cart part.
Yessss the XLR Tx is amazing haha I am working on a video on the Shure version as we speak. It's actually kinda awesome just walking around with ANY mic you want.
I went with three of the crank desks from Husky as well. They have been a game changer. I'd like to upgrade to the tool carts, but my studio is on the second floor and I would have a problem getting them up the stairs because they are usually pre-assembled.
Thank you Tom. My takeaway - don’t let perfection get in the way of progress. Currently working through a multi-year design buy build process for my home office.
@@tombuck lol Just using my phone as webcam and it was pointed in a different corner of the room. Funny how perspective changes things (as we see in your new setups!)
I’m in a transition period packing all my things up great to have set-up videos like these to get the creative juices going when I finally get my own space
Yes I'm loving it, and I have spent a lotta cash on the best that I can afford, many of which you have promoted Tom. I'm interested as to how you achieved the cash position to get all this equipment, as you're a relatively young Man. Was it through UA-cam success, or from outside income. Love you're style.
Tom My suggestion would be to use more smart home products. you can have smart home plugs that you can turn things on/off with easily. It’s how i turn everything on in my studio before i start/end my day.
Can't under estimate the power of good lightning and sound. A lot of effort was put in this studio and it shows, love your sense of photography. I do however suggest to clear up space by reselling some unused gear, this will assist you fix some of the annoyances and help you see new ideas.
Wheel-ee cool! We got our first one on deck in less than 2 minutes! 😂 I actually liked the original setup but hey, you're the dude that has to navigate it so you would know better. One day I might get the space to put in another camera angle, everything else I have is locked down. And as the old saw goes, if it ain't broke dont fix it. Question!!! How much time do you get out of the SLX Battery for the microphone? Good info given here T.B. 👍🏽
So far the SLX has lasted longer than I ever need it to. I've used it for maybe 90 continuous minutes and then on/off throughout the course of a day and it hasn't run out yet. I think it's rated for about 8 hours, so that seems pretty accurate.
@@tombuck That's what I thought. It really sounds AMAZING with the SM7B. I dare say it will make any other XLR mic sound just as they're plugged by cable. What about latency? does the audio keep synced to the video? (p.s. I simply love your channel)
Whoa….dude - you really were rocking that beard Tom 🤣😂😎….looked good on ya man!!! I am doing the same thing with my studio, trying to put wheels on everything. I have got to really emphasize efficiency to capitalize on video ideas and still capture multiple background shots in the same little room
The one thing about your space compared to almost ever other studio is how bright it is. As far as lack of Sound treatment have you thought about the rolling dual sound blanets that Caleb Pike designed? Just a thought.
I've thought about the sound blankets because they would help A LOT, but I honestly just don't want to have them take up space. I've noticed more reverb since moving things around, so I think I'll definitely need to tweak the sound treatment a bit more.
Love this! Thank you so much! I think I have a fantasy of being a UA-camr one day. 😆 but I don’t like the way I look or sound, so not sure how realistic it is. You put out high quality video and audio in your videos. Not sure why it’s been so hard for me to construct that sentence. Maybe I’m trying to say your videos are high quality product? Idk. Anyways, it’s amazing how much equipment goes into making it happen.
Thanks a Lot ! I really Like your vidéo & this Tour. Always great to pick some good idea for my studio. i saw your mic without câble - its gréât. Thank You.
Metric Tom Buck: “This ~24-inch soft box is 30cm” 😅 Us Canadians appreciate your try, metric Tom! In a Canadian school a student’s ruler generally has 12” on one side and 30cm on the other side so it’s easy to remember - not exact, but good enough for YT estimates. Still loved the studio tour/update!
Such a great video dude!! Your space is very well thought out and looks great, but MySpace is a wreck 😜. This video made me realize that we have A LOT of the same stuff in our office/studios. PS Your Josh Groban reference made me laugh
I learned a lot from your videos to boost my audio quality game at work. So many thanks for that! Also, thank goodness you never started a UA-cam channel to teach people how to wear tees 😅
Is there a secret to keeping reflections off those framed pictures? I wondered if it was the diffusion or the angle of the lights. These videos give me so much inspiration for home studio ideas!
Hey Tom, have you checked out the Kasa Smart Power Strip? They let you control the power for each device using an app on your phone. Not sure if this helps solve some of the issues you described, but a smart surge protector may be one of the missing pieces for this to flow even better.
nice desk! it felt you have alot of spaces. haha the paper backdrop my dream is to have a written, hollywood style. haha dreaming like the jimmy falon show and kelly clarkson show sign backdrop. haha
Nothing like watching a setup video that makes you want to completely re-arrange your own setup again. 😂 You have created an amazing space Tom!
Hands down , this is my favorite UA-cam tech video of ALL-TIME!! I watch everytime it hops in my feed.. The husky desk is my next purchase now lol

Wow!! What a collection! What a tour
Thank you! It's pretty surreal to be honest.
Love the Knuckle Puck! Perfect for you, as a hockey fan.
Worlds collide!
Another banger of a video. I need those rolling tool chests. Thank you for linking them.
The Husky one from Home Depot is a bit higher quality, but only comes with the top part, which makes it more expensive. The Craftsman ones are a bit more affordable since you can buy just the cart part.
@@tombuck thank you. I’ve been watching your videos for a while and have always wondered about them.
Yeah, those ones are tough for sure. I don't know how on earth I'd get them up stairs!
Great thumbnail Tom!
Thank you! I definitely struggled with this one a bit.
I also like the Magic Mouse. And as a lefty, it’s one of the very few I can use without having to retrain myself to use my right hand.
Thank you Tom. My takeaway - don’t let perfection get in the way of progress. Currently working through a multi-year design buy build process for my home office.
Exactly! It sounds simple but is a tough lesson to learn. Hope you're office project comes out great!
@@tombuck 👍
“Vesa in your face-a you can celebrate with a cervaza” 🎉
Also Joey bobblehead and CCM Allout sticker!
Hutch! I was listening to an episode where everyone was making you feel uncomfortable by giving compliments about a new camera setup 😁
@@tombuck lol Just using my phone as webcam and it was pointed in a different corner of the room. Funny how perspective changes things (as we see in your new setups!)
I’m in a transition period packing all my things up great to have set-up videos like these to get the creative juices going when I finally get my own space
You can do it!
Tom
My suggestion would be to use more smart home products. you can have smart home plugs that you can turn things on/off with easily. It’s how i turn everything on in my studio before i start/end my day.
Yeah, this is really what I need to do. We have some older Hue stuff in the rest of our house, but it's probably time to upgrade everything.
Amazing versatility, your making me think thoughts on my setup😜 Great job bro
I want an in-depth tour of your setup!
@@tombuck I think I can make that happen🤙🏽
Can't under estimate the power of good lightning and sound. A lot of effort was put in this studio and it shows, love your sense of photography.
I do however suggest to clear up space by reselling some unused gear, this will assist you fix some of the annoyances and help you see new ideas.
I like the magic mouse too. Enjoyed the video.
There are dozens of us!
@@tombuck 😂
Changing our scenes changes our minds
Facts 🫰
Wheel-ee cool! We got our first one on deck in less than 2 minutes! 😂 I actually liked the original setup but hey, you're the dude that has to navigate it so you would know better. One day I might get the space to put in another camera angle, everything else I have is locked down. And as the old saw goes, if it ain't broke dont fix it. Question!!! How much time do you get out of the SLX Battery for the microphone? Good info given here T.B. 👍🏽
And my tool chests are Lime (Safety) Green. 🤷🏽♂
Oh I love that color. I was SUPER close to getting those.
So far the SLX has lasted longer than I ever need it to. I've used it for maybe 90 continuous minutes and then on/off throughout the course of a day and it hasn't run out yet. I think it's rated for about 8 hours, so that seems pretty accurate.
@@tombuck Nice!!
That was epic! Can't wait for this "My next video will be all about the wireless SM7B"!
It’s a fun one! 😁
Dream studio set up right there.
Is that the Shure SLXD3 Digital Plug-On XLR Transmitter, that you're using with the SM7B ? And which receiver are you using ?
It was running into the SLXD5 👍
@@tombuck That's what I thought. It really sounds AMAZING with the SM7B. I dare say it will make any other XLR mic sound just as they're plugged by cable. What about latency? does the audio keep synced to the video? (p.s. I simply love your channel)
I love the fact that the wireless SM7B was used in this video. 😎
It's quickly becoming one of my favorite things!
I looked up prices for some of Mr Buck's kit. The SM7B is barely a footnote on his inventory...
Had to impress the girlfriend 😉
@@tombuckI think it’s safe to say… it worked! 😎🤣
@@tombuckI did the same…except it worked too good, 26 years later still have it…my wife won’t let me shave it off! 🤷🏻♂️😂
Great organization. Did you make a video on the pelican style trekpak drawers? Thanks
Mobile live streaming means I’m always working out of a backpack and my home studio is a MESS. Thanks for the inspiration!
It's crazy how quickly things can get messy whenever you're working on the road or in a hurry.
Hey I’m trying my best over here in the land of imperial measurements! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that’s how I like it!
Ohh boy, love this video!
I love me a good studio tour 👌
Nice! I recently re arranged my office based off of your old setup for space efficiency,.
Nice! I hope it's working well for you!
Ooooh, check out all hunky bearded Tom from 2018 :) Studio space is looking great, and somewhat completely opposite of my own ;)
My girlfriend said she liked it and I wanted to impress her 😉
@@tombuck I’m guessing from the result she was impressed then ;)
Such a great video dude!! Your space is very well thought out and looks great, but MySpace is a wreck 😜.
This video made me realize that we have A LOT of the same stuff in our office/studios.
PS Your Josh Groban reference made me laugh
I’d like to see/hear you play one of those Fenders! Nice studio too, of course! (Did you get tired of holding that “wireless mic?”)
I love the guitars! And surprisingly, the mic feels good to use!
Swap maybe one or two of those Aquabats posters with some Streetlight Manifesto and I'd be set 😆 Thanks for the office inspiration. 🔥
I don’t hate this idea 😁
Love it. Gives me lots of ideas. Thanks, I am a fan.
Awesome! Thank you!
Looks good sounds good love the wheels seems like a obvious thing to do but nonetheless I haven’t done it so gonna remedy that . Thanks
Sometimes those "obvious" simple things are the easiest to overlook!
Side question….. are you going to Aquabats at PacAmp Aug 17? Got our tix! (Father / daughter tradition.)
Is this at the OC Fair? I'm not sure but I'd love to hear them play some new songs! I'm really digging Finally!
@@tombuck Yes, OC Fair. I do believe the tour coincides with their new album titled “Finally!” . Clever.
Amazingly Impressive
Than you sir!
Love the Offspring reference. 🤣👍
I’m a pretty fly whit guy.
Hey Tom, have you checked out the Kasa Smart Power Strip? They let you control the power for each device using an app on your phone. Not sure if this helps solve some of the issues you described, but a smart surge protector may be one of the missing pieces for this to flow even better.
That sounds awesome! I'll have to take a look. Thanks for the recommendation!
So i googled Shure SM7B wireless and discovered that you released a video on May 16. 👏 lol was gonna ask about it too so thanks and nice going
Hey perfect timing!
I put camera and prompter on a rode ds2 . Works very well
Nice! Those stands are really nice.
@@tombuck getting a BMD micro G2 in may. Will be a nice small moveable setup
Could you please post a link for the closet clock?
nice desk! it felt you have alot of spaces. haha the paper backdrop my dream is to have a written, hollywood style. haha dreaming like the jimmy falon show and kelly clarkson show sign backdrop. haha
That would be absolutely awesome! I've always loved talk show sets.
@@tombuck ah! nooo!! don't get that, that's my vision! hahahaha talk show sets is mine! hahahaha
