I've played one tournament in 10th and hope to go to another one in the next couple months, I agree that Dawn of War deployment on Terrain Layout 1 is really prone to alpha strikes. It felt like a struggle to hide my tanks, and one basilisk went exposed, but thankfully my opponent was very busy with dealing with the rest of my force! Otherwise I have enjoyed GW terrain quite a bit, it gives me room to maneuver my rogal dorns and rough riders, hah
The mini tournament you ran with a more themed terrain setup for each table was great. Gw needs to make more variety of terrain pieces and have maps where the initial roll off means something
I agree that tournament maps should be more or less mirrored, but a variety of building types compared to different sizes of L shaped ruins would be nice to see at least
Been a big fan since 5th and glad it has become more important but I feel casual players don't understand it and it's a shame types other than ruin are sub pair for there rules
It's one of the big reason I play 4th lately. Hills, forests, and area terrain was much more impactful, and vehicles couldn't just casually roll through a collapsed building.
I like that the terrain laid out evenly becomes something that's integrated into the fight and battle plan. But remembering infantry can wallbust, makes set up very important.
I've never really played gw tournament terrain, layouts etc. Tbh I find it fairly boring. Terrain is as much a part of the game as the armies fighting in it and I feel they should be just as varied. I've played on everything from ruins to medieval townships. I love that variety and it keeps my tactical and strategic thinking sharp, not that I'm all that good tbh 😅. Admittedly at the end of the day, the ruins are the only terrain features that actually do anytbing useful on the tabletop. They also have to be mirrored to maintain balance which just makes it even more boring and again limits it to basically just ruins. Ruins also have their own drawbacks like being seen inside the terrain etc.
I've barely played on gw terrain map layouts and my big knights really struggled to move anywhere at any decent pace. Most of the time my big knights even with going over terrain could really get past the halfway line if they started behind the initial line of ruins at the edge of my deployment zone.
Good on you, man, for coming back and saying that you've got more experience now and giving us your new perspective.

I think they shouldn’t make a single dice roll too impactful

The inquisition called, as penance for your heresy, they demand an increase in the quota of kitty features on future videos

I used them this weekend. I actually quite enjoyed them, Only issue being that for some of the missions the terrain doesn't really make sense.

I played on map 4 and it was so bad. I was playing into a Necrons mirror match. Hypercryp can just fully utilize it and walking armies are screwed.
Except the super heavy tanks... which are just stuck. They should be able to just bulldozer ruins.

So why does guard keep losing?
I would dare to say this.... dawn of war should use gw´s layout 2
First in!
Needs more L shaped and 7 shaped terrain, more realistic......
lol people don't actually use these things right?
They do, it's disgusting.
