Insidious roots is pretty great on its own for dork-ifying your tokens. Necroptence having individual triggers for each card breaks this wide open, though.
Insidious roots is nice in modern as well... you can use it together with Wheel of Sun and Moon, in a creature cycling deck, just lands, creatures that cycle, and 4 copies of both Roots and Wheel. And with a Samut, Tyrant Smasher or Runadi Behemoth Caller or a Roar of Resistance, etc. You can have those tokens enter the battlefield with haste which allows you to just make even more tokens.
You know my favorite part about insidious roots….this feels exact like what Golgari as a color pair should be doing. Balancing life/death on a knife’s edge. Awesome cards.
@@FluffySpikeM I’ll be honest the art is one of my least favorite parts…it feels to digital and minimalist for me but to each their own. Happy you connect with it.
@@VinegarAndSaltedFries I would take digital and minimalist over pretentious, lore-breaking, mood-breaking or deliberately ugly any day of the week. I don’t quite like the general art direction in MtG right now. There still are artistic bangers, but they feel like “cameos” instead of “mainstream”. A lot of the alternative art sets were cool though (not MkM - this one’s shite in my opinion).
Wait but if necropotence makes you skip your drawstep, and in your turn you dont have more cards to draw because all are milled. You shouldn't lose because you have no cards no? Because necropotence skips that step, so you can't get killed for not having any cards in your library, no?
Thanks for the deck! I have made a new version of it including One with nothing to improve the root. I have uploaded a video showing the mechanic "MTG Arena | One with Nothing-Insidious Roots Necropotence Combo | Timeless"
another way of having fun is to make a deck based on descent with mostly creatures cards and self mill in it and then just have a couple gaea's blessing that will keep reshuffling everything so you can keep milling and descending forever
I envision a slightly less chaotic deck. Instead of necropotence, where you lose out on the cards you exile, what if instead you go the self mill route, and use forever young to return your creatures to your deck, allowing for a double dip on the Insidious Roots. Golgari has tons of creatures that self mill and return permanants, such a eternal witness (The 4 cmc one with Eternalize, not the 3cmc one that's not on arena). Loses to GY exiling effects, but afaik, nobody runs that in normal games. Best of 3 will most definitely have them.
Chris' brain works on a completely different plain of existence than my own, so I can't even tell if he was serious when he wondered if the opponent was playing a mirror match with him lmao
The dorks seem iffy when so few parts of the combo use green... And you've already got white, so maybe the eternalize cat for W, or even flumph as a stall/draw Flumph is a highly underrated jank enabler
Only Chris can queue up in Timeless and play against people playing decks that would be bad even if they were being played in a more appropriate format. I’m surprised the lifegain deck wasn’t running 138 cards. It’s a cool deck, but it would be nice to see it go up against an actual Timeless deck.
Delighted halfling and Avacyn's Pilgrim tap for white as well. Though I'd probably replace them with Ilysian Caryatid because that's a plant and Sanctum Weaver because the deck relies heavily on enchantments.
I didn't think it was possible, but you've made me hate Necropotence. And I'm that guy that builds mono black decks when a new set comes out, before anything else. The strangest thing about the new Necro wording is that I think the ORIGINAL wording from Ice Age wouldn't let you do this. In fact, I'm sure of it!
The original wording doesn’t change anything. Both versions would need to say something like “exile instead” to be any different. Since they don’t, you discard from your hand to the graveyard then exile. In fact the wording of the original version is why Necro works that way at all

We finally broke Necropotence.

Love seeing Chris's Dingus brain firing on all cylinders when deck building a new set

Agreed
Also the art is nice and atmospheric. These days that's not a given.

A bag of holding also lets you exile from graveyards then return it all to hand later
We did it, we broke Necropotence!
27 years of showing why it was such a big mistake.
You are talking about Necropotence. One of the most abused and broken cards ever printed. But yes, we broke it. Finally.
@@Aaackermann yeah bro, that's the joke
At this point I'm just waiting until they really screw up and start letting people run a four set of Tolarian Academy again.
This combo plus Ashnod's Altar, The Ozolith, & Almighty Brushwagg.
giant_dad is also a giant cool dude for staying in ;-)
Yeah he's a real Wizard Hands
I've spent 17min giggling by myself, thinking 'here comes the farewell...', I think this is the first time that I'm not happy to see the combo resolve
Epic jank comboner today. Great stuff Chris😂
why not include prosperous inkeeper? seems like a great fit
There should be a button that makes it impossible for the opponent to give up while @MONO BLACK MAGIC shows off insane Combos :D again and again :D
Chris somehow finding the cards and with the perfect amount of jank
Woot. Ridiculous combos of fun.

First noticed this kind of combo with Grolnok the Omnivore and Willow Geist
Self mill into Gaea’s Blessing activating Insidious Roots. Boom.
Gaeas blessing is only 1 trigger though
another way of having fun is to make a deck based on descent with mostly creatures cards and self mill in it and then just have a couple gaea's blessing that will keep reshuffling everything so you can keep milling and descending forever
This reminds me of 3 mana artifact Desecrated Tomb.

I'm really glad that Wizards doesn't waste any money on stupid things like "playtesting". Just let the customers beta test FOR you!
To be fair, Necropotence is banned almost everywhere
Im sorry 3:40 thats insane what?
Would the monkey paw artifact tutor work better than scheming semetry, to slow down opponent response?
Chris' brain works on a completely different plain of existence than my own, so I can't even tell if he was serious when he wondered if the opponent was playing a mirror match with him lmao
Wonder if its possible to make this work without Necropotence in Standard? With like mill and exile own graveyard?
Maybe could do Historic or Explorer with Gaea's Blessing? Just keep milling and reshuffling?
Really like this idea!
The dark master of jank strikes again.....
The dorks seem iffy when so few parts of the combo use green... And you've already got white, so maybe the eternalize cat for W, or even flumph as a stall/draw Flumph is a highly underrated jank enabler
11:48 I'm pretty sure your second dark ritual was mostly wasted? Only Mostly.
That’s was a hilarious second game
Does this work with necro dominance in historic?
For such a great idea even a loss would be a win 😅
You are a mad genius.
Now imagine he had a mastermind aquistions to grab a sideboard altar of dementia for the win
Did they take Necropotence out now?
That was brilliant

I never evil-laughed harder than when he gained all that life and went up to almost 40 and started paying it all back into necropotence, what jankery
I just want to say that this combo isn't broken. This is very fair all other combos considered.
Necropotence strikes again!!!!!
I like how the SFX for plants entering and buffing gets forebodingly louder and louder lol
Amazing!
5:59 would have been hilarious if the opponent drops a mountain next turn and just bolts you to death
yep, I just was destroyed by one deck like this one xD
yeah necropotence should of been a replacement effect.
did you add lands that produce white??
Plants he's relying on solely to tap for mana😂😂
Delighted halfling and Avacyn's Pilgrim tap for white as well. Though I'd probably replace them with Ilysian Caryatid because that's a plant and Sanctum Weaver because the deck relies heavily on enchantments.
One mana CMC vs two tho
if you turn on full control while activating necropotence the animation goes much faster
Why no deck lists anymore
That scheming should have grabed dark ritual so you couldve just played necro instead of letting them hit you with the inquisition lol
This deck is begging for meathook!
Plants
IS altar of dementia in the format? :P
is this on Historic?
Timeless. Necropotence is banned in historic.
Necropotence is already not legal everywhere but timeless lol and maybe commander
Please do a Quake-mole video.
Turn three temporary lockdown 😅 !
lightning bolt
What about gaya blessing??with self mille creature🤑🤑🤑
just imagin combo up with seven dwaf conjure thing to increed cretrure in can have in deck
Your need heroic intervention
no wonder necropotence is banned in almost all formats :D
i think i can beat you!!! been playing for 20 yrs now
Now this is more like it, janky combo deck using new cards, please do more of this with unique win conditions!
Imagine scute swarm, and lotus cobra, with this....
You don't put lands on the battlefield, only plants

deck is so unfair
Pretty busted combos
This historic or standard
Edit: guys chill I don’t play standard that much that’s why only mainly historic
Timeless
Necropotence hasn't been in standard for decades
Necro is laughing at us,you know
😂😂
Wotc hasnt done any playtesting for atleast 10 years.
This reminds me of 3 mana artifact Desecrated Tomb.
