This could genuinely be a terrific backstory for Death and Perrito. I hope something like this is adapted to the official stories DW hopefully will tell with our new favorite characters.

@@snowcreeper09 Yeah you know I have thought about that, but seeing the movie a few times, the fire ring is just meant to corral Puss, didn't seem to seriously injure Perrito.

If Lobo and Perrito actually became friends, I'd assume they'd have the father and son relationship and it's so fricking adorable to thing about. Makes it even better when you know that wolves are the ancestors of dogs
The vibe I get is similar to a character from League of Legends comprised of two figures that collectively represent death: one that comforts those who accept death and the other that ruthlessly hunts down those that deny it.

I wonder, with this specific comic at least, with how Lobo coincidentally happened to be there to save Perrito from drowning. I can’t help but think that in this comic that Perrito was actually suppose to drown and Lobo was suppose to collect him, but then he felt sorry for him so he chose to save him instead.
My headcannon is that Perrito did die as I believe Death/Lobo would never make exceptions and the rest of the comic is Perrito's spirit. And that out of sympathy Death/Lobo is taking care of Perrito's spirit.
@@TravellerZasha You think so? I guess that also makes sense. But I was honestly kind of hoping he was still alive, because him dying and then Lobo just allows his spirit to tag along with him the whole time seemed a bit too sad for me to handle.
Well, Lobo did say that he hated Puss In Boots because he wasted the lives that he was given... Perrito didn't even have the chance to really LIVE at all... Maybe he is still alive, maybe Death is just waiting a bit longer, to see what he makes of the life he could've lived!

Imagine in final battle with Death, Perrito looks at him as he recognises him and Death gives him a wink or some indication that he remembers him when he drowned. Would have been a surreal.
If this were the case Perrito would be the kind of Death that would be comforting children and the elderly when they died.
Perrito did say, he was going to be a "therapy dog".
This... is too painfully wholesome to think about
Later, Death sends Perrito on a special assignment.
"Alright, Perrito. There is some gato hiding out there I need you to keep an eye on. Now as fun as it is to leave him in his listless situation, he is going to have to come out sooner or later."
"No problemo, Death sir! I will let you know if I see him!"
And Death sends Perrito undercover to Mama Luna's Cat Rescue shelter where he knows Puss has been staying all this time after their last encounter.
I saw a theory that death didnt go for him at Mama's because he had dropped the fearless immortal legend bit that had pissed him off so sending Perrito to keep an eye on him would be good training and with how old some of the cats and Mama were he could ease him into the harder parts of the job with an easy reaping
You know Perrito being thrown in a river while trapped in a sock is kind of inexplicably impossible for him to escape just by chance.
I firmly believe Death helped him out on that one because seriously how would he manage that??
Perrito does not know and has never seen Death. So it seems unlikely to me, even if it is possible that Death helped him without him knowing it. But in that case, maybe he would have had at least one word for Perrito at the end of the movie.

Perrito wouldn’t be panicking when he was in the water because in the movie he was laughing when talking about it as if he loved it
Perrito did not fear death, nor did he deny or shy away from it. Nether do to ignorance or stupidity but purely because he sees the good in everything.
Since death was walking the earth for a bit to play with his food (puss) i can see him saving a snack for later on. Especially something as sweet and saviory as perrito.

Why do I envision that Perrito did have multiple encounters with Death?
I really do believe now that Death pulled him out of the river. With how much Perrito appreciated life, he gave him the chance to live his life. But I do wonder if he told Perrito to go to Mama Luna’s house to eventually meet up and watch over Puss, especially since he dropped “The Legend” act and lived there so he wouldn’t encounter the Lobo.
All in all I think the Wolf is Death and Perrito is Life. I felt that way from the very beginning. Perrito might still be a child, but definitely serves as Puss’ guardian angel. All of Perrito’s near death encounters is what pushed him further towards being a therapy dog.
Or make perrito sleep the brother of death

I love this AU idea! With Death adopting Perrito and him being like Death's apprentice in a way. It's so wholesome and cute! Plus It would definitely change the dynamic between him and Puss. Perhaps Perrito would even act a little differently? I would love fanfics written around this AU idea! Go fanfiction writers! To your keyboards! Or pencils, I know some people like doing it the old fashioned way.

In my headcanon Perrito is already dead in "The Last Wish"
It could be he got a second chance and is some type of guardian angel for Puss.
One theory I have about Perrito is that he did die, but stayed on as a guardian angel of sorts for people who lose sight of the good around them and don't stop to appreciate the little things. That's why his path to the last wish was an easy yet hard, self-reflecting one.
And Lobo Muerte never took his soul because Perrito is a force of nature just like he is. Perrito did express though that one day he would like to retire. And when that day comes Lobo Muerte will escort him safely to the crossroads as any friend would.
There's also the fact that the obstacles in Perrito's path are various symbols of death-the Pocket Full of Posies come from a certain nursery rhyme that is about the bubonic plague, the River of Relaxation represents the Styx, and the Field of Quick and Easy Solutions allude to the easiest solution to one's problems: suicide.
Plot twist Perrito was playing hide in seek with death when he was puppy but was to dumb to realize that he only found death because he was actually supposed to die from all those things that happened to him. Death just didn't take his soul because he felt sorry for him and set lil Perrito on his own lil adventure which resulted in Puss meeting Perrito.

What if Perrito was really saved by Death, and Death gave Perrito a task: to find Puss and make him acknowledge the beauty and meaning of life?
Personally I like it better that Perrito managed to get away by himself and death was just there to comfort him when he got out of the water.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Perrito met Death a couple of times.
It would make sense if he did since he lived with a cat lady and death hated cats for having 9 lives

Alternate ending:
Death: “Yes. I’ll help you seek. What do your friends look like? … Oh, I think I saw one of them at mama luna’s. Why don’t you go check there, and I’ll look around here. … He’s gone. Time to get to work.”
I know this isn't like, canon or anything but perrito did say he gnawed a hole in the sock and swam to the surface, I think when he got to the surface death was waiting for him, but since perrito was still alive, death decided to leave him alone.
I could even justify Perrito's survival making a parallel with an anime series: When they cry. In this series, there's a Witch called Bernkastel and she was created by kinda surviving a schroedinger's catbox, she was kind of a miracle. And Perito situation gives me that vibe, but I prefer waaaaaay more this version where Lobo saves him, awn!
This is the first interpretation of Death ive seen that doesnt instantly kill people on contact.

Could you do a comic of Death dealing with Perrito’s former owners.
The sad thing was.. death actually can't save him.. his job was only to take life and guide them to go to the afterlife.. it's doesn't matter how hurtful or tragic someone die .. or if they deserve it or not.. it's already happen..
Except maybe if you safe from a near death experience that you escape without his help.. maybe there you can see him waiting the exact time to take you...
