    The bystander effect scares me as I have epilepsy and have passed out in the street before. After my seizure I got up without conciousness, and started to leave the cookies and money I just earned behind in the street. Someone collected me and my belongings and sent me to a hospital where I woke up, with a strange feeling. My epilepsy is quite different, so I could regain my energy faster than most, bt I'm still sore af. I hate that I cant control my body beyond the immediate aftermath of my seizure, I need hours to recover. If I pass out me and my valuables are at risk bt I'm at the mercy of the public and their willingness to help me, whether I am not badly injured or if I become injured from the fall

      My mum is one of the worst people I know regarding this bystander effect. I'm always making a fuss about other people and their problems and that someone should do something and mum always says: "let them deal with it", "it's not our business", "someone else will do it" etc. That's terrible and everytime I have to remind her that if all the other people thought like that nothing would ever happen. Even if it's about domestic violence or recycling/ sorting your trash.

      Danielle Barks you poor soul! I've seen two people have seizures in front of me. I didn't know what to do so I yelled for help. One was in a jail and the other a live-in shelter so fortunately there was always someone willing to get up and page Medical and others to stay til help arrived. Anytime I see someone in distress if I can help I always do. I would never just assume someone else will help, especially if I know I can. Hope things work out for you 🙂

    Story 7 really got to me. I remember talking about the bystander effect in psychology. There was a woman in the 1920’s that was murdered on the sidewalks to massive apartments while on her way home. The killer got away because no one bothered to see what all the screaming was about so no eye witnesses. That story always bothered and I thought it as soon as this story started. It’s a real thing and something I hope to avoid if I ever witness a person in need.

    Ok so the bath story just reminded me of something. I don’t know if it was a dream, or if it really happened, but I was around 3-5 years old, and my Tia (aunt) was taking care of me. She put me in the bath tub, let the water run, left me in there and went back into her room which is like, 7 steps away so it’s not that far. Since I was so young, I was also very small, and my body was about half of the bathtub height. The water was up to my chin and I was almost drowning. My Tia was still in her room, but my mom, grandma, and grandpa were all standing outside of the restroom, watching my struggle to keep my head above the water, and they were all telling my Tia “help him!” “Get him out!” “Why would you leave him in there alone!” But none of them did anything until my Tia went and grabbed me. It was scary and I honestly don’t know if it was real or a dream, because you would think that the adults would do something, but they didn’t. I guess I’ll never know.

    When I was around 13, I lived in a house with a bar right behind it and one night in the summer of 2001, a guy got drunk (I assume) and I heard him calling "help" and I was upstairs in my room with my window open and I look out and this guy is laying in my backyard, crying for help and I ran...I fucking ran because I was scared, I ran to the Gas Station my Mom worked at until she got off. For the record, I was home alone.
    I felt so bad afterwards that I didn't help the guy. He was gone when we came back home. But you just never know about those situations. You hear stories about good samaritans being killed for trying to help someone who wasn't really in distress.

    • @MatthewMaddox-ss3zp
      @MatthewMaddox-ss3zp Місяць тому

      Late, but you just gotta read the situation and go with your instincts. I tell everyone that kindness is wasted on everyone and that you need to be very, very selective with who you are kind too. That good samaritan stuff will get you fucked up if you're not careful.

    Spent my first 21yrs in Southern AZ & can tell you that vehicles (usually semi trucks) "disappearing" from your rearview at night isn't unusual. The weird lights following, flying next to, all around & over your car & then vanishing is something myself & several people I know, have experienced...and we have all lost time too...just a gap, with no memory at all. That stuffs a little creepy/unsettling, but there are much worse things out there, in that forsaken desert. Unexplainable sh•t that changes you.

    Watching a documentary about Kitty Genovese was the first I'd heard of the by stander effect. I'm still not sure if I'd personally consider it one because the documentary had shed a little light on what happened that night.
    Nevertheless it was pretty brutal and tragic.

      I have thought her cancelled husband had something to do with that, but he whoever must be real brave killing a family member of a known mafia family lucky Luciano made all families get along very nice, but again they had balls of iron to do that and pay a small time hood to go to prison for it again talent and for the record DeSalvo was not the Boston strangler he confess for various reasons a relative of a victim had his aunt remains tested via DNA and his DNA was not even close but, MA like OH does not want to admit fault in anything esp with evidence to prove them wrong my late mom was like that she was never wrong in anything

    I lived on Route 66. It wasn’t called that when I was a kid but it was known that it was the famous Route 66. Once a drunk driver hit a palm tree head on in the middle of the night and made a huge commotion. I don’t know what happened to him but the palm is still there with reflector boards in front of it now. I loved that Blvd. The driveways were U shaped so I’d ride my bike up and down random peoples’ driveways until an elderly lady squirted me with a hose and yelled at me 😂

    It's always best to assume once a stalker, always a stalker and to never give such people access to a friend's info or phone number. Unless they make a conscious decision to curb abs and correct their behavior they tend to repeat almost as if compulsory. Even if it's been years since you were aware of them stalking someone it's still good to act with caution
