The story of OP and winnie carter brought me to tears. As a former JW, this really happens and to realize how many others have gone through something like this due to a cult disguised as a religion is just stomach turning. Too many horrible people hide behind religion
I remember a kid told our Sunday school teacher she was being touched by her fathers best friend & our church reported it & had him arrested. We arent Jehovah's witness but We gave her & family support & counseling.
I'm thankful to be apart of a church that protects all innocent. They dont enable abuse of anykind. If a child, woman or man comes in need of help we do all we can to help... Food, clothes, bills paid, support of any kind. We never condoned abuse or neglect. Thanks for another awesome video.
Wow, that Jonathan story ends up being so moving. But at the same time, I am pissed at how incredibly stupid her 'brother' and his family was regarding Winnie. As for the church leaders, they've got a twisted, sexist outlook on the world.
It's so heartbreaking that her brother and the rest of them were so brainwashed by the elders. And though we never know what happened to Winnie, at least her brother renounced his faith and started somewhere new.
If the worst happened, he's going to have to deal with that guilt for the rest of his life. But at least he changed after that. Some people don't even do that much.

Church/cult stories light a rage in me. They make people resentful, add to the stigma, and are just downright evil. Blood boils when I hear about “people of (whatever deity)” break and manipulate good hearted people.
As soon as I heard the word 'elder' I knew it has to be either mormonism or jehovahs witness. They're both awful cults.

Yep it was exactly JW I used to be a Jehovah’s Witness at that age everything in the story I have seen before and experienced so for me that was a true scary story

Holy bat crap, that church one made me nearly sob. I hope that Winnie didn't take her life, I hope she is out there somewhere, hearing this story and feeling glad that her sister, her friend has forgiven her and still loves her.
There is a reason I left my church when I was 14. Because they do the same damn thing. They protected my uncle and encouraged his molesting of the innocent. And they wonder why I told them to take me off their damn list, they found where I lived even though no one who could have told them knew, they found me on Facebook multiple times to ask me if I wanted to come to church.

The Jehovah's Witness story is heartbreaking, but not the first time they tried to cover up sexual abuse. They are in major trouble in at least one country for that.

Boy as an ex JW myself I can relate to what you are going through. My parents divorced because my Dad couldn't stand their beliefs. I am glad I left them behind. Hang in there and experience a guilt free relationship with God based on love and not fear.

I'm an ex member of the same religion as Winnie. It gave me goosebumps hearing that scandal. We all know it happens more often then they would like to admit. There is so much darkness that no one talks about in that environment

@@xoderota seems like it. The vibe is incredibly accurate and certain words- "kingdom, elders, brothers sisters, shunned" I was in that and I remember having to admit exactly what I did wrong to 2 elders at my home and feeling shame. I think I was the only one seen too.
Wow... They were intense... The one with Jonathan was horrible, truly heart-breaking. And the one with the creepy house was intriguing too... They were some pretty scary-sounding dreams.
That whole story with the girl and Jonathan is why kids shouldn't be indoctrinated into any religion until they're old/mature enough to make their own decisions or be comfortable with their own beliefs. Unfortunately the super-religious (aka FUNDIE) parents, the ones who are always the source of this madness, will never stop pushing their views onto their children.
PuppyLuver256 that girl was a jehovas witnes and we do have the right to stray away if we want and choose are own paths yet some people part of some congregations don’t see that and we are not forced to go out on Saturdays yet parents usually do like us to go on Sunday and we also only get baptized if we want Not at birth (her congregation was pretty messed up)

@@bekaboo3531 it's not that we hate Jehovah's Witnesses, but they aren't loving to people unless they can snake you into their religion. if they're being nice to you, it's cause they think you'll join their cancerous(as in how it's spreading) religion. They threatened to disfellowship Mexican members if they didn't forge documents, and they are keeping the names of 23,000+ pedophiles, the us courts are charging them $4,000 more everyday. The organization is scum, and I have nothing but sympathy for the poor women, children, LGBTQ+ people, and men who want to but cannot leave who get abused by their own church and think it's okay or right or what god wants. A JW family will through their kids like 12 and up out of the house and onto the street/to anyone who will take them, even people who MOLESTED them, for being gay, or trans, or bi, or disagreeing with them at all, or just not believing. The elders are monsters, and everyone below them is contributing to and also suffering from these horrible transphobic, sexist, homophobic, and in the past very racist, ideals.
The story about Winnie is heartbreaking. I'm so happy that woman is pressing charges. It's a hard path to take.

Edit. I was right about Winnie. Being in a religion doesn't automatically make anyone perfect, a pervert or a pedo can exist and be protected anywhere including a company, a school, a nursing home, a bus driver, fire fighter, a police officer can fall in that category, and they can exist in any house hold in your neighborhood, it's terrifying.

Why would he murder her? Why not drop her off far away from home and force her to walk back, pregnant, probably dying of the elements. He would get the 'as her husband he was punishing her for rebelling.' From the church and a long prison sentence from the police. I mean I cant see him murdering her personally like choking her to death, bt cowardly as I think even the church wouldn't like that. How on earth do you justify choking your pregnant wife too death?
I don't think he did, he wanted her to suffer by having his baby and to break her spirit. I personally think that Winnie killed herself. Such a tragic story for both girls.

I went through a lot at the hands of a southern Baptist church and I will attest that although, I believe they were well meaning, but for example, I was told that when I was 14 I was tempting the married elders with provacative clothing. Like they told my dad this. I was very underdeveloped. That story was heart breaking
