Professional systems engineer here: most PA systems have a low end shelf of about +12db @ ≈85hz relative to the rest of the mix. We call it a haystack, and it helps match the human ears perception at loud volumes. If you have been making these tracks at show volume, but without that boost, your low end is gonna sound crazy every time you go out.
A simple eq from the sp404 mkii, guitar pedal, or something like that would be more than enough to compensate for differences in the pa across shows so you don’t have to change up every element of your mix
That's great to know, thanks!
I love how far you’ve pushed these two boxes. I really appreciate that this channel sticks with gear and gets the best results from it. Awesome work man.
Congratulations! Rave Miller droppin bangers! Keep slaying it!
Ayy a massive Gabe W! So proud of you man!
Oof I can relate to the anxiety and excitement of it all. It's such a good feeling g when you get a crowd jumpin
Congrats, looked like it went very well. I played live a few times this year also and went with the same sentiment as you , arranging tracks to increase intensity and practiced endlessly. It is such a great feeling watching people react to the music in person, especially the drops. Addictive.
Huge well done on your first live performance mate. You planned and prepped it perfectly so not to mess up your first gig. I work in events here in London ,UK. I'd book you 😊
Been following your channel a long time, you’re the reason I got a circuit tracks and a MPC One, but I have diverged recently. Congrats! Live is definitely fun and I’m excited whenever people let me make beats in public. Waiting for the world tour now,
Nah bro for the first time it went SMOOTH! Usually first times live is so much worse! Congrats bro!
Hell yeah! Congrats, Gabe! A simple mixer with a few bands of EQ might be nice to have, along with all the cables you need to connect to it plus pair of quarter inch or XLR cables to go out. It's nice to have some basic control on stage over low end and high end that comes after the main setup so that you can adjust to a boomy room or a PA with too much top end. I DJ occasionally and I always bring my Mackie Mix8 and cables plus a stereo direct box, power strip and extension cord in a Gator mixer bag. I don't always use it but I always have it, and I've saved more than a couple nights for myself and other performers because I have it with me. Even if it's only me using it, I like knowing that I'm going into a consistent and flexible mixer that I control and then going out of that in a way that any PA will accommodate.
Congratulation for this first gig !! Thanks for sharing, it's extremly motivating
I've now done four +1 hour live sets with Circuit Tracks as the sequencer and two varying external synths. The main selling point of the CT is the intuitive interface which shines in live situations. I order and color code my projects based on BPM. I also have a cheat sheet as backup on paper with reminders on where the drop is and what batch I need to select on my external synths. It's been a blast!
Love to see it! Groove Box on stage for life! I could never figure out a way to pre monitor. Great ideas with the headphone attenuators!
Congrats, Gabe! Watching your videos and wanting a circuit Tracks from sometimes now (waiting to have more free time before going into it). It’s incredible what you achieved to do with those devices!
Bravo!
Congratulations! I have recently purchased both the circuit rhythm and tracks. Your journey is inspirational! Keep growing and be well!
Oh man, that's exciting! Well done, and congratulations... the snippets you show sound great!
Can't believe that was your first set ! its certainly a useful learning curve ! . My live set includes the electribe, microfreak and volca fm
Congrats for your first live! That's very inspired. I want to go out and play my frist live on my Circuit Rhythm more and more)
Well done man! Your buzz is contagious.
I’d love to see the performance! Can you upload it?
The performance wasn't filmed, other than some friends who were kind enough to get the clips I used for this video. Recorded versions of the first 2/3 of the set are linked at the end though. Eventually, once I'm done adding to it, I want to do a full set playthrough.
@@GabeMillerMusic Looked like a great time. Congrats!
It reminded me of when I played live many years ago at raves with just a couple of Electribes. I hope to see you at a festival
Great stuff Gabe keep killing it. Performing live is the final boss. Check out Gray Contrast in Berlin. Props to you for rocking a pure Circuit set 🔥💯
All right! And Circuits for the win!
I love how much you are buzzing over this. Amazing.
But triggering scenes on both devices is my biggest bugbear with the dual circuit setup. I really wish Novation would fix that. I've gone as far as to suggest to Novation both the ability to:
1) colour code the scenes, like I do with my cue points in Serato, which gives me the ability to confidently jump to different parts of the track.
2) switch scenes, maybe even remotely via a Launchpad X, the scenes on BOTH devices at the same time. I find I'm particularly frustrated when I try to use the excellent Rhythm DJ style effects to build to a drop, but then I can't keep the tension building to the drop, unless I make use of Project switching.
I'm hyped. And yeah, I'd love if Novation updated that, but I was able to make it work with risers, occasional automation, and the master filter. I mainly had to use scene switching anytime the Tracks needed to do something longer than a bar. For big drops, I was able to rely more on project switching.
Congrats 🎉 you got it. Im very happy for you, your channel is phantastic. I agree with you about the unfprgettable experience of mixing and all the people dancing your Music. Congrats again !
Gabe your excitement and enthusiasm is contagious and I've been working to go live for the last two years once I got circuit tracks. I've known from the start that this machine is the one that could replace my rack of synths that I used previously on stage. everyone take notice.
congrats !! this is really major experience, had many live performances back then (peolly 15 years ago) and it is really great motivation to make music ..
Do not care about mistakes, people on floor doesn’t notice them 99% of time :-)) Also i always applied rule when i messed something i repeated the mistake at least 3 times more so it looked😊 like intention - works like a charm 😂
wish tou many successful live gigs in future !
Congratulations, that's awesome to hear!
Great job and LOVE your videos and packs! I just did my first gig with a Circuit Rhythm, Uno Synth Pro Desktop, Yamaha Seqtrak and Volca FM. I did not synch anything because as a giging guitar player for many years, that has great timing, I wanted to do everything live. Also, it was all improvised (one hour set). The Rhythm worked perfectly as kind of the center of everything, and then I would do more chill sections with Setraq being the center to give a different feel to everything.
congrats! love to see this and honestly would've really enjoyed this too
That's awesome! Congratulations!!
Awesome, always great to see. And thank you for giving us a little bts
Awesome!
Hell yeah! It was so fun!
That's sick man! Congrats! 🎉
Just got my box, really looking forward to playing foor my friends!
Glad to see your success!
Congrats Gabe! You deserve it!
Congrats Gabe! Very pleased for you. Next stop Coachella!
Congrats Gabe. Well done!
Congratulations, having a good gig is a truly great feeling.
Congrats. Well done! Will check those linked videos. Keep up the good work!
Glad it went super well. I can support this, the circuit combo it's a blast live
That's cool. Congrats!
Cool! Congrats!
Congrats. :)
Your channel convinced me that it wasn't too late to get back to music (with a Circuit Tracks that I bought one month ago). You're an inspiration and your music is awesome.
I wish you more live sets like that one, your audience surely had a great time. Good job!
That's so awesome to hear!
Let’s gooo! I’m hyped for you too!
aye congrats man!....an thanks for the vids over the yrs too!
Glad you've been enjoying them! More on the way!
I perform pretty often with various gear and my favorite is definitely the Force (for rehearsed sets). It's much more flexible than other gear and you can customize what you want to interact with during the set using macros, fx pads, the fader, etc..
I LOVE authoriting and jamming on my Circuits but man, the Force is amazing on stage ❤
It's definitely something I want to explore in the future. How have you dealt with RAM/memory usage if you have a lot of sounds in one project? I'd also want to figure out how to reset things like filter cutoffs on new songs as they come up. I'd definitely welcome any tips you may have.
Happy for you that it went so well. You do look happy AF, which is always communicative.
Waiting for you in Tokyo at the Womb 😊
Congratulations 😊
Congratulations 🎉 set looks banging !!! would love to see a full vid of the performance if you could try and recreate it
Congratulations!
Proud of you! ❤
Awesome… congrats.
Well done Babe,from Scotland.
Congrats bro wish I could’ve been there. Just made my first video performing one of my songs, you’ve been such a huge source of information, especially on my CT. It shows in my video, thank you for being so dedicated to your instruments and helping everyone in the process
Hell yeah dude!
IT...COULD...WOOOORK!!!!!
Please come play in Sacramento! I’d love to open for you!
That would be dope
Woah 🔥🔥
Dude, your channel has been super helpful and informative, and to see the utter stoke and enthusiasm after you sharing your music is a freakin awesome thing to wake up to. Bravo!!
It's always been techno. Glad you embraced it. Eventually D&B.
I do want to expand the set to end on a d&b track, since it already gets close to that tempo and would be a fun way to end it
@@GabeMillerMusic I used to listen to Jungle back in the day. I never gave D&B a second look after the early 2000s. But the resurgence of this genre especially in the UK is astonishing. My daughter who is in university, says it's the only thing played at parties.
That's awesome
Congrats! Wondering whether you would use something like the Roland MC-707 for future live shows or whether you think this is the best setup (for you at least)
Thanks! I've been thinking about it, although there are some things I'd have to figure out how to solve with the MC-707 that the Circuit does easily. I might try to make a different, more chill set with the 707 at some point.
Dude this is really inspiring, what 2nd device would you recommend to add to circuit tracks to be able to do jungle, with sliced breaks, ambient pads and some vocals
Thanks! Honestly I'd still add the Circuit Rhythm in that case.
Can't wait to tap into my circuit. Always been a fan of novation and really excited about this.
Also, question for you gabe. Have you tried out the sonicware Lo-Fi 12 xt or any sonicware devices. Curious on your take.
I haven't tried those yet, I've been interested in giving them a go but trying new gear hasn't been a priority lately. At some point hopefully though!
@@GabeMillerMusic got it! totally get you! but congrats on the gig! very inspiring! keep it up!
When's the tour?
Check out the Golden Master pedal, it's great as an end of chain for live gigs
Thanks, I'll give it a look!
You never forget your first 😜
One thing to keep in mind when playing out is that no one else notices the little mistakes we make like we do. To us, they seem obvious and awful but the truth is, no one rig side hears it unless they understand music production and even when they do, they don't care because they're too busy 'avin it.
anyone knows if it is possible to add some kind of pre listening when trying samples or presets to avoid they sound throught PA but only throught the headphones?
Not that I'm aware of unfortunately. If I was about to unmute a track and wanted to double check what it was, I'd select it to see what pattern it was playing. But I'm guessing what you're describing is more for improvised stuff, and I don't believe there's a way to pre-listen
Headlining Glastonbury 25? Welcome to the gigging world, I’ve only been doing it 45 years .
Nice, that's impressive
Sounds great! How long was the set (sorry if I missed that)? And how did you get booked for this?
Thanks! It was approximately 45 minutes. I was acquainted with the owners of the cafe and asked if they'd be down to have me play this event after the first one went really well (and I sent them a video of what I would play).
For the next one I'll be playing, I messaged the owner of the venue that I had been going to as a show attendee with the video of what I would play, asking if they'd be down to have me play sometime. It's a friendly scene, and a lot of venues are just looking for people to play.
@@GabeMillerMusic 45 minutes is amazing given the level that you scripted it. Impressed.
Thanks for the background on getting the gig. I’ve played a lot of electronic open mics here in the UK and am looking to do more gigs like this.
If you did this more synthwave based would you do Circuit tracks & MC-101?
Probably! I did a video where l made a short synthwave live set with exactly that setup. It needs some refinements, but it works.
@@GabeMillerMusic thanks! I’m trying to figure out what combo of 707, 101, Elektron and Notation boxes would be the best for me.
I think as long as portability is not important the 707 keeps everything in one box and the Roland sounds are pretty iconic.
Just curious, but from the mixer did you go out from 1/4" jacks or XLRs to the PA? I've always wondered what it would be like to play live, but hadn't thought through the logistics of it all. No idea what a real club/bar setup would even need Great video, and congrats!
I was trying to stay out of the way when they set up the decks, mixer, and PA, so I didn't see exactly how that was set up, but I believe they had XLRs to the PA. I had 1/4" running to the mixer.
lvl 100 unlocked 🔓
Improvised set next
I demand to switch name channel to Rave Miller 🤯
...Your the next Richie Hawtin, dude.
Maybe you’ll perform at Austin City Limits one day bud🎹🎶‼️
You are aware you can sync the clocks right?
The Circuits are sync'd via midi, and project switching on the master device will project switch on the other one. However, there's a bug (that I've confirmed with Novation support) that causes stuff to sometimes drop in at the wrong time in certain situations. Switching scenes does NOT work over midi, so for specific sections, I have to scene switch on both devices simultaneously. Check the full video about using both together for a much more in depth explanation.
Techno Rave 💊
Hey. You should start a discord channel around this maybe.
Congratulation to your live rave!
Here some inspiration for you: If you want to see plenty (!) live techno performances with the novation tracks you need to check out "Gray Contrast" in Berlin
See www.youtube.com/@GrayContrast
Gray Contrast is next level amazing. He plays
- Live Techno sets with the novation track as brain
- on the street (!) in front of a random crowd
- with live looping with boss RC-505 and lot´s of improvisation
- on battery power
Simply amazing what he achives with a simple set up on the street!
BTW: Check out the perfomance with live looped trumpet with the female artists.
Improvised Techno on the Novation Tracks with a live looped trumpet is amazing. Never heard of techno with live trumpets in my life before.
Rad, I'll give those a look
