  • Hello everyone and welcome back to The Beatles Forever. Today we will look at how the album Double Fantasy began and how it got recorded.
We will look through the eyes of John's assistant Fred Seaman.
He wrote a book about his experiences with John and Yoko. It was entitled The Last Days of John Lennon.
It is interesting to find out about those days from a person close to the family at that time.

it's too bad Lennon couldn't stick to his first thought which was correct: after 5 years being away from the music scene--he should've done this album as a solo effort & forgot about Yoko. Her efforts didn't help this album.

Well I am afraid that at the end of the day Yoko was a parasite. But John sadly had a mommy complex and May Pang would have been so much better for him. Julian's comments in recent years about John have been more balanced. He agrees that John had not been a great father (as he himself admitted at the time) but he also acknowledges that John was making attempts to improve their relationship in 1980. Of course John thought he had 30-40-50 years left in which to do this.

After the many John Lennon uploads on You Tube, you’ve managed to post a very good video. Thank you, I loved all the pictures that went along with the narrative. Because of the genius of John, Yoko’s songs on the album managed to sound decent mixed between John’s excellent song writing skills. You have to wonder if John was alive today if he would have still been with her. I doubt it. I always felt she had some mystical hold on him. She’s also been a long time heroin user over the years. You mention they where paying for the recording time out of their own pocket, at this point in his life John had more money than he ever had, and he was well known for his speed in the studio, he had a short amount of patience and didn’t like spending lots of time on perfection, he was a 2or3 takes type of artist. Very interesting video. Thanks. When I got the Double Fantasy cassette and heard Yoko I wanted to trash it. Her voice is like listening to fingernails being scraped over a chalkboard. The worst crap I ever heard. I had a double cassette recording system so I made another tape and I cut all of Yoko’s garbage out leaving just Lennon’s songs. They were great. I loved Watching The Wheels and Woman the best. A side story. When Watching the Wheels was recorded a producer at the studio saw a street musician and told him he’d give him $50 to play his
hammer dulcimer in a song. The poor street musician sat in and playing his track on Watching the Wheels. Then after he was paid and out the door he learned that he was playing on a John Lennon song and muttered “fifty bucks!”. That producer took advantage of his poverty. When you listen to that song you can easily see how the hammer dulcimer made that song great. His contribution will be heard forever but he will remain an unknown. Hopefully he learned not to let predators rip off his talent.

I believe John and Paul would have done something if he John hadn't been murdered. John knew Yoko was a no-talent hack and once he got back in the studio it sounds like he was finally starting to see the world without his Yoko color lenses on. That take is in line with what John's sister and his former wife said in terms of where he was at with her at that point in their marriage.
As for Paul, Wings was history and I believe Paul would have jumped at the opportunity to produce a record with John. A Beatle reunion may have happened way down the road but only for a one-time event, maybe their enshrinement in the Rock and Roll HOF. Based on the interviews George gave he was much happier being on his own and I don't think John and Paul would have used Ringo. That would have created too much controversy. John and Paul were always the engine that drove the Beatles and I think a record with just the two of them would have been fantastic. Can you imagine a John and Paul tour back at that time? That 15-time loser took away so much from the world when he murdered John. The only time I ever cried over a celebrity passing away. RIP John.

This is addressed to the person behind THE BEATLES FOREVER. I do not know your name so I will say 'Dear Sir'. Dear Sir, do you yet know Yoko Ono is a very powerful witch ? Literally. She blinded, overpowered, enslaved and controlled John Lennon. She did this using occult energy. Her purpose was to destroy John Lennon and The Beatles. She achieved both. The reason she did this was because John Lennon was a supremely gifted great soul who came into this world to bring light and love to mankind on a huge scale. The dark side with whom Yoko Ono is allied, she works for the dark side, wanted to bring him down. In his last years in The Dakoda building he was in great inner pain. He was a deeply spiritual man of great intensity. He was a force of nature, a Titan, the rarest of the rare. All I have touched on in this comment can be verified by a suitably gifted psychic, medium or shaman. All I have touched on is the solemn truth.

Thank you for making the video, sadly Fred Seaman has got discredited over the years by none other than Mother but it’s ok we can see how John felt at the time with his songs.

He may hv written some of those songs for May Pang. He was so afraid if being deported, one reason he went back to mommy Yoko.

Dozens claim to have been Lennon's "assistant".

It is really pity that Frederick didn't tell John what he saw in New York, If John had found out what was going on behind his back, perhaps things would comes out completely different.

Why are all your videos so negative about John Lennon? Everything might be true, but why emphasize all this stuff? I never see any videos about the negative videos of Paul McCartney‘s life.

Half of the album was great, John’s half of course. He should have made it as Single Fantasy 😅

This is the issue I have with all these limelight seeking opportunists. They make up stuff. John was never aware of money or cared about money. Him and Yoko spent lavishly. So to state that John wanted to rush the sessions because of the costs is ridiculous. John was just very impatient as a person and wanted to recorded everything in one take. That was his nature. Look at the Beatles sessions he always was the one saying “hurry up” and saying the take sounded fine, whereas Paul and George Martin wanted to perfect every sound.

Without John's millions, Yoko Ono with her no talent ability, by today's standards would've probably been a homeless type personality!

John Lennon peaked so many times in his career, anyone would have gone crazy or suicidal, i mean, he already wanted to die in 1965 when he wrote help, he already peaked back then, and when he bought an island and so on, the level of success that John had was kinda a hell, no wonder he wanted to hook up with freaks like Yoko, when he separated from yoko he did like 3 albums one after the other and hang around with all the famous people, he was at the oscars i think, he saw all the show biz of america in the 70s, May Pang was kinda his young 24/7 sex worker and he had lots of women, so he peaked again, living that life is impossible for you to get to be 50, he might have felt very empty several times

The one big reason why Yuky Ono dropped the pursuit of a divorce, was that her lawyer informed her that she would get little financial benefits, then John informed her that he was ready to make a new album, and suddenly she relished at the possibility of $$$$. from the sales. In fact,at the time she was dating her home designer, who also lived with Yuky in her apartment...a real witch that one.

There was something at the time, about Yoko. Standoffish. I thought it was shyness or a timifity borne of all the bad publicity and negativity about Yoko's personality. Now I'm an old man I think my initial impressions were correct. Timidity and shyness had nothing to do with it. But all that is such a long time ago, ashes.

I don’t think Double Fantasy would ever be a great album…it’ll always a pop album tinged with snapshots of the Lennon’s life at that time. Yoko was entwined within the album as she was in John’s life. Not a great album, it’s nonetheless a beautiful album that revolves around the love of two people and their relationship that was, too soon, cut short.

The reviews for Double Fantasy at the time were rather underwhelming. Nothing groundbreaking. But John's death changed our perspective of the album so it became something more. Milk and Honey was a nice bonus a few years later.
