Got to watch Tom Jones Treat her right. The ultimate Dance moves that he does. Love you guys. Great songs that remind me of my childhood. Keep up the great music.
Hey Mom, I understand your daughter is too young to know Paul Anka but good on you for pointing out SHE'S A LADY was an Anka penned tune.Paul Albert Anka is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known for his signature hit songs including "Diana", "Lonely Boy", "Put Your Head on My Shoulder", and "(You're) Having My Baby". Anka also wrote the theme for The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson; one of Tom Jones' biggest hits, "She's a Lady"; and the English lyrics for Frank Sinatra's signature song "My Way". Years before Donny Osmond, Anka was the original singer/songwriter of PUPPY LOVE. A song he wrote about his crush on Annette Funicello.
I was 9 years old in 1970, when I first saw Tom Jones on TV. The only thing I remember from his performance, was my mom and a couple of other women in the house, cheering, and the girls on TV throwing their panties on stage.
You girls are really bringing back memories this weekend (its Sunday here in AUS) my mate and I took our wives to see Tom Jones in concert when he was in Australia many years ago and he was certainly a big hit with the ladies who used to throw their underwear and bras at him on stage imagine my surprise when my mate chucked a pair of his grandma's xxxl bloomers at him ,Tom took it in good stead and wiped his brow on them and threw them back , I believe my mate still has them to this day .
The late 60s and 70s was the era of "Free Love", 'do your own thing', first birth control, etc. TV was very conservative but live audiences loved him. Yes, he was well known as being an overtly sexual performer with a laugh and a wink, sexy but fun. He was a headliner in Las Vegas for many years and a sex symbol of the times. He still performs to sold out audiences in Europe and the US/Canada at 82 but the dance moves have been retired. LOL The voice is as strong and powerful as ever as he sings old hits and new, contemporary songs of meaning.
One of my favorite Tom Jones songs is a little more of a sad song but it's pertinent because it is the compliment to love and it's a song called The Green Green Grass of Home.
I understand that Sir Tom trained in opera before he made it big. If so, that would explain his powerful voice that he integrated into a non-opera format. On another subject, it sounds like said Elvis the Pelvis was drafted to put his pelvis under wraps until his popularity had wanted. I'm 60 and hadn't heard or thought of that before. Interesting.
Thanks for another entertaining reaction ! .. Although totally different musically, this song is quite similar in its lyrical theme to Charlie Rich's big country crossover hit, "Behind Closed Doors" .. In that song, Charlie describes how his woman is the perfect lady in public, but in private she is not quite so reserved .. It's quite charming and beautifully sung, if you ever want to give it a listen.
I LOVE you two !!! You do some very nice work in your reactions !!! In other news ... the MAIN reason why they panned up to Tom's face when he "gyrated" was simple. It was because ... Tom Jones wore tight clothes and ... well 😳, he was VERY well endowed. That just wouldn't get past the censors back then.
That Welshman was the only person I knew of that could make my mother loose her composure. Trivia time; Paul Anka also wrote the theme for The Tonight Show w/Johnny Carson
A little trivia, in some of Tom Jones old pictures and performances, he has a big round gold buckle on , it was a gift from George Paul , 1968 world champion bull rider, who sadly died in a plane crash shortly after, He and Tom Jones were friends
The 60s early 70s was probably the biggest era of murder ballads... Hey Joe by Jimmy Hendrix, Riders On The Strorm by the Doors and so on & when it comes to Blues even earlier.
Ode to Billy Joe by Bobbi Gentry had a little of that going on, too. Oh, and checkout Vickie Lawrence's "That's the Night that the Lights went out in Georgia." Unique, great song.
those guys were regulars at clubs in Vegas so the people that went there generally knew what they were going to see, so don't believe too many would have been too shocked. . .
Trivia: Those Tom Jones was born in Wales... and is a Welshman... his ancestry is 75% English... 3 of his Grandparents were English... only one was Welsh...
Even tho this was written by Paul Anka, it could easily have been about Tom's wife. She put up with a lot from him in the way of his infidelties. ""Tom has spoken candidly about his extramarital affairs --- In a Sunday Times interview in 2015, Tom Jones revealed that his wife Linda found out about his affair with the former Miss World winner and furiously lashed out at him. "I stood there and took it," he stated. "She chinned me. She punched and shouted."
Hello to both of you. Don't know if you know the singer, but Wayne Newton had a few good ones out. My favorite song by Wayne Newton was Daddy don't you walk so fast. Make sure you have tissues handy should you listen to it...
I'd like to see y'alls reaction to "Down By The Lazy River" by The Osmonds, specifically when they were in their prime in the early 70's. I know they're fairly well forgotten now but they were as big as anyone back in the day.
Tom Jones was a sexy man and might i say still is, he is 82. He sang a few years ago on Britain’s got talent still sounds fantastic. It is rumored that although married his wife knew hew was with other women and it is rumored to be in the 1000s of women over his career.
Even in 71, tv ex's still tried to shy away from all the hip movement. But it didn't seem to bother his audience, if you take into account how many panties and room keys got thrown on stage during his shows..
During his lifetime, Elvis Presley and Tom Jones were very good friends. Tom Jones has admitted during interviews that Elvis was a major influence on his music and live concert performances.
Tom Jones still plays the sexy ladies man character, even into his seventies. I'd love to see a reaction to a more recent, more mature version of Tom. Search youtube for "Tom Jones & Mousse T - Sexbomb" from 1999. One of his best, even though it wasn't a hit in the U.S.
Bear in my the whole “Elvis the Pelvis” controversy was more late 50’s early 60’s . By 1971 the sexual revolution was in full swing and things were way looser. If you can react to the Tom Jone song , Treat her Right from the This is Tom Jones TV show, he goes all out with the moves and kissing random audience members during the performance. The ladies in the audience went wild! You would get a kick out of that performance!😂
'Delilah' is also an Italian tune with a different title and lyrics and a Spanish version as well. Italian version: ua-cam.com/video/WQnW6MqqAhE/v-deo.html Spanish versions: ua-cam.com/video/urEK8HfM7d4/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/HTPQhs8y6AY/v-deo.html
Yes Paul Anka wrote it. He and Tom were good friends. But, Anka did not write this about just any lady. This was written specifically for Tom and it is about Tom’s wife, Linda. Ironically, years later, after Tom was given his Knighthood, his wife officially became a lady-Lady Melinda. Here’s a better quality version of the song performed about 25 years after the version you used: ua-cam.com/video/pZ-f1d51_tE/v-deo.html
Here's a song befitting the two that would bridge the generation gap - yet another that is not globally heard much, yet a gem as great as any popularly heard: ua-cam.com/video/bBKt3TkEIKw/v-deo.html
You explained to your daughter in the video " Treat her right " that Tom Jones was known for his dance moves. So why are you stopping, to explain it again.
Obviously people have always loved sex before, during and since 1971. It was just television execs back in those days who were trying their best to downplay it and keep things "clean" because they were worried about puritanical backlash affecting their ratings. Songs about sex have always been around, they just had to dance around things to avoid being too overt or explicit with the lyrics back then. Unlike nowadays when you can be as explicit as you like and no one bats an eye.
I am enjoying your reactions. Nothing prim and proper about the 60s and 70s. Your exploration of Kate Bush’s early music should already have prepared you for that. Extremely sensual and sexual woman in her song writing; someone prepared to sing about anything and everything. I think the need to have happy endings in songs and films is more an American thing than it is here in the UK/Europe so I was not surprised you struggled with seeing the not so nice outcome in Delilah.
Sadly, this is one song that Tom Jones has said he will not perform live anymore. Some folks feel the lyrics are sexist, not remembering that the song was written over 50 years ago when 'woke' had a different meaning than today. This was one of my favorite Tom Jones songs from that era.
Sir Tom was definitely known for his dancing along with his magnificent voice, and he was actually rather subdued here.
I saw Tom Jones at The Las Vegas Hilton Back in the Day. He was such a Showman, and Yes, The Lady's Loved him. So did I !!!!❤
Got to watch Tom Jones Treat her right. The ultimate Dance moves that he does. Love you guys. Great songs that remind me of my childhood. Keep up the great music.

Well stated bro man fellow music lover. I appreciate that.
Someone mentioned about Elvis. He and Tom were at same hotel in Las Vegas. They were close friends until Elvis' death in 1977.
F Y I - Written by a Canadian artist, sung by the Welsh man, and a hit around the world.
I was 9 years old in 1970, when I first saw Tom Jones on TV. The only thing I remember from his performance, was my mom and a couple of other women in the house, cheering, and the girls on TV throwing their panties on stage.

Wow that’s an amazing story! 😂 love to hear Tom’s humor using them to wipe his sweat. And your friend too!
The late 60s and 70s was the era of "Free Love", 'do your own thing', first birth control, etc. TV was very conservative but live audiences loved him. Great song this .....
but when I think Tom Jones, i think 'IT'S NOT UNUSUAL' .... now what a song THAT is!
Excellent reaction!!! Tom Jones is a bad man!!!
I understand that Sir Tom trained in opera before he made it big. If so, that would explain his powerful voice that he integrated into a non-opera format.

His idol was Wilson Picket, should watch their duet.

Want to watch him dance you should listen to treat her right live version.
those guys were regulars at clubs in Vegas so the people that went there generally knew what they were going to see, so don't believe too many would have been too shocked. . .
There are plenty of duets of Tom and a lot of his guest from his TV show. Check them out
Tom knew how to move those hips!
Check on treat her right. Good dancing.
Trivia: Those Tom Jones was born in Wales... and is a Welshman... his ancestry is 75% English... 3 of his Grandparents were English... only one was Welsh...
Tom is Welsh, and he was known as a lady's man during his career. he played that up..lol...
This is a fun live version, but you gotta listen to the studio version to really appreciate the song. Close to a rocker as Tom ever got I think
The Beatles Maxwell's Silver Hammer...everybody gets knocked off.

Tom Jones could have opened up his own women's lingerie store from the amount of undergarments thrown up on stage during his songs.
Recommend Shirley Bassey
If you want to hear songs about murder, you have to listen to folk music. Guys killing their girlfriends, moms killing their kids and more
60's & 70's ? Sex drugs and rock and roll!

Sadly, this is one song that Tom Jones has said he will not perform live anymore. Some folks feel the lyrics are sexist, not remembering that the song was written over 50 years ago when 'woke' had a different meaning than today. This was one of my favorite Tom Jones songs from that era.
you dont have to pause
There are better versions, including the hit single
Not his greatest vocal performance of that song.
