As a former owner of the game, I would advise prospective backers to really consider the amount of time needed to get the best out of it. I play a number of campaign games on a regular basis. Currently I am playing League of Dungeoneers, Sword and Sorcery Immortal Souls and Oathsworn. On the backburner is Hate, Tainted Grail and Chronicles of Drunagor. And I play several other games like Uprising Curse of the Last Emperor, Warcry and Zombicide of all varieties. I loved Isofaran Guard. The production quality is astounding. The combat system is engaging and interesting and the story is top level. I realised, after about 12 hours play, that I was not going to complete the campaign because I would always prioritise dungeon crawlers and boss battlers over this. This is a game that needs commitment and, for my preferences, it wasn't enough for me to put aside my current games. If you want a game, with a strong narrative, that you can devote a lot of time to, this might be for you? If you are already involved in campaign games and it is just going to take up substantial space on your shelves for years, perhaps not?
@Dratio I am predominantly a solo player and my three current campaigns are all excellent for solo play i.e. Oathsworn, Sword and Sorcery and League of Dungeoneers. I have been playing Oathsworn with 4 full characters, although you can simplify this by using characters as companions, which have simplified rules. I started out with 2 companions and 2 full characters, but had changed by the second chapter. Sword and Sorcery is a game with a lot of rules relating to combat stats and dice mitigation. I think this probably works easier as a solo game and I love it. I have been playing with 3 characters. League of Dungeoneers is an amazing game, with a real rpg feel. You develop your characters as you progress in the game and there isn't an end point to reach. There are campaigns, but you don't have to follow any particular path. My party failed one of the quests and lost one of the characters. I played it again when my characters were stronger. It is an amazing game and it is easy to lose several hours to it! I am playing with 2 full characters and 2 mercenaries. My other recommendations for solo play would be Mage Knight, any of the Killforth games and Chronicles of Drunagor.
@haxan6663 one question. I have Sword and Sorcery, and I am not even close to finish the campaign. And I usually don't have a lot of time for playing. That said, do you Think that buying TIG is gonna be a waste of money?
@@edersonmoura866 It is a game that needs commitment to get the best from it. I would consider if TIG would encourage you to get it to the table more than Sword and Sorcery does? If not, then it is probably not for you.
We are currently addicted to Isofarian Guard. We play most nights and it’s “one more fight and then we will go to bed. Ok, now just one more.” ….one hour later and we are still at the table.
This is such a fantastic game, offering an absolutely unique level of immersion. It embraces you with it's story and characters and you just don't want to stop playing. The mechanics are incredibly well thought out and solidly work all throughout the campaign. I don't think I ever played through an entire campaign game before, without shelfing the game once. It also can not be stressed enough how fantastic Sky Kingdom is as a company. Their commitment to the customers and the product is not only going an extra mile, they go way beyond. I love this game and I would never part with it. This game would let me float to the that lone island and then keep me entertained forever.
I have never understood the complaints around an update pack. To me it is improving the game experience based on feedback they learned. Sure, it comes at a cost... However, expectations should always be nothing in life is free. Isofarian Guard is a wonderful game and the gold standard for Foreteller narration. I have not been able to get too far into the game, and have some of the grind issues personally, I house rule where I can in order to make it enjoyable. For now, I will leave it on the shelf and come back to it and start over when the update pack arrives. For anyone new, there is a lot to be played, there is a lot of physical space. Keep that in mind if you decide to back.
I think people are just suspicious that the game wasn't truly complete and it's just being milked to sell more. It's an impossible thing to prove completely but in context I don't think that's the case most times. Especially with Isofarion considering the insane amount of content it initially shipped with
I bought the game at retail from the web store. My only regret is not getting it during the campaign at half the price. The game value is phenomenal even at full price. You like and play grindy video game RPGs with interesting leveling and character customization, item drops and crafting, robust combat that is not just skill checks, side quests, in game decisions that matter, and an incredible and immersive story, then just buy the game already.
I fall in the "love the game but dislike the grind" camp. Part of that is due to my OCD (like wanting to completely build out the fort in Campaign 1 and completely unlock the skill trees). I'm not sure that the planned changes will truly fix that though. Instead I just house-ruled it to ignore the arbitrary inventory restrictions, and that helped a lot...and I'll probably house-rule the events, because they don't pop very often for me, so I'm not going through the decks at the expected pace (and that's without adding all the extra event cards). Having said all that, I'm a completionist, so I'll back the upgrade pack anyway. As Alex mentioned, I got a great deal on the game in the first KS campaign, so I don't mind springing for the upgrade pack. It's also worth noting that the designer was incredibly active and helpful in the BGG forums. Go buy this already if you like fantasy-themed campaign games with Foreteller.
I'm an Isofarian Guard backer and... it's a CRPG. To me, this is way too fiddly to be a board game - grinding crafting materials and such just really doesn't belong in the board game experience IMO. Base Building is only barely tolerable. It's so weighty and at two players, I would recommend this basically ONLY for roommates and couples who can play 2/3x in a week before putting it away again. But I do like the mechanics, I think it's pretty cool, and learning how to play with your partner is the main thing. I think they could have designed the combat to Physically take up much less space (a counter wheel instead of the sliding box counters, no giant board for NPCs and some other space saving niceties.
I paid full MSRP from SkyKingdom games for 1.0 right before shipping fulfillment 😅 I'll be paying for the upgrade pack and ultimately... I'm not mad, at all. I love this game. I love this company and for the amount of money charged, it's a MASSIVE and wonderful experience.
Re-runt and this just arrived last month 🙄 but good thing i checked into this video or I might have missed the update pack!!! Long live @thekingofaverage
just watched while waiting for the page to load the pledge submitting lol. only reason why i am "only" backer #295 hehe. happens when presumably up to 10k people storm the site after launch.
New cards are always an issue. Especially for someone who bought the sleeves pack they already sold, and now will not have enough sleeves for the new cards..

Seems like a great game, but wow the update pack just sounds like a lot of trash, literally. Just throw out 5 books and a few hundred cards that won't biodegrade and replace them with new versions of more plastic. I understand logistically it is the easiest way to do it but dang that seems like a lot of wasted plastic that is going straight into the landfill.

What are your favorite campaign games so far? Any you'd recommend for a solo player? I don't have much issue playing multiple characters if need be.

I miss the dark humor jokes haha I always wait til the very end thinking “is it coming this time???”
Can anyone suggest which would be better, Isofarian Guard or Aeon Tresspass Odyssey or ATO: Herakles?
ATO. Noone played Heracles, so noone will tell you there
