Update Dec 16: The visceral fat index has been added this week and it can range from 1 to 15. A number between 1 and 5 is normal and healthy, and anything above is considered high. Like everything else, you can also see the trend over time with a line graph.
So my vascular age is around my age of 40-44. After that I created a new profile which is 10 years younger and I tried to check my vascular age. If the scale is consistent, it would warn me that my vascular age is 40-44 but to my surprise the scale showed me that my vascular age is 30-33 and normal... So I think the vascular age is really unreliable and just uses your birthday do display something close to your age. I'm also doubting whether the other measurements are correct. My vascular fat is also suddenly much lower when using that other profile...
I also believe that especially companies that use our health data should not charge for a subscription. Instead, they could provide anonymous data to the health system of the users' countries for research, should they agree to that. This way they would cut back on their taxes and give a percentage back to their users as well.
It's so strange to me how you seem to be the only reputable UA-camr to have reviewed this scale. I have been searching for other reviews and can't find them.
Love Withings simplicity and thanks for the review. Totally agree that it does not make any sense to pay subscription when you buy the withings equipments.
Thank you for the well rounded review. I totally agree with your opinion about the subscriptions. I get that companies need to have a steady stream of income and that they still are in a bit of a niche market but another subscription yet again for stuff I probably won't need? I have been a Withings-/Nokia-/Withings-Fan and device user for over 10 years with various trackers and still use the OG Smart Body Analyzer but was going to upgrade to either the Body Comp or the Body Scan for my main home. But not knowing what data will be available after the first year and even loosing functionality I've had for 10 years on the WS-50 like standing heart rate or data that is being collected but not show due to inactive subscription makes me seriously consider not getting one of the newer models. 😅
Absolutely! And the plan is to extend the Health+ to other devices but the basic data should be available without the need for subscription. Thanks so much for watching Josh!
Great video. I have a question. I just bought a Body+ but I'm considering upgrading to the Body comp. I think there's a $100 difference in prices. Do you think the Body comp's additional features are worth the price difference?
For anyone wondering, the baby mode is automatic - you just weigh in yourself and then weigh in with the "baby" within 5 minutes and it'll automatically subtract your weight and log it under the baby's profile. I didn't even realize the Body+ I've had for a decade does this too.
When you buy this scale you'll already have access to Health+ for one year, but after that one year if the scale is not used with a Health+ subscription, the Electrodermal Activity Score, Vascular Age and Standing Heart Rate feature will still be available for use. But, without the paid subscription, you will no longer have access to the in-app benefits of Health+ including Habit Builders, workouts, articles, and daily missions.
Hi there! Great review, I was interested in purchasing this scale but can't seem to get a hold of it in Australia. Do you have a store link I could perhaps order it from?
No Yes! I'm afraid I don't at the moment. I got in touch with Withings though today and asked about this and they said currently they don't know when it'll be available. That kinda sucks tbh! But I appreciate you watching this video.
05:20 when you have link to strava and sync to garmin connect. What are available data from withing sync to Garmin? does the weight from withing scale sync to garmin connect weight ?
After using it for several weeks, it seems like neither Withings nor Strava use any data and so no weight data comes to the Garmin Connect app. So I might as well unlink it. 🙁 This might change in the future though.
It shows both intra and extra cellular water combined. The stats include weight, body composition (you can choose in absolute values or percentage), your BMI, heart rate, pulse wave velocity, vascular age and electrodermal activity. All of them except for the heart rate have line charts. You can also select your target weight in the app. Hope this helps.
Great many thanks! So nice you did a review so quickly! Do we know anything about the BIA technology, how many measurement frequencies the scale uses (for example dual-frequency or higher?)
You're welcome. Yes, I mentioned this in the video that they use multi-frequency BIA which is more accurate than single frequency. Exactly how many frequencies they use they haven't disclosed, but it's at least two.
The updated Health Mate app is apparently causing many users to have functionality problems, connection problems, body measurement info to be lost or an inability to connect to the app, etc. etc. Perhaps you should read some of the later reviews to get a real idea as to how these scales work (or don't work for that matter).
Hey Josh! A little while after making this video,I had some issues with their app and also the scale itself having trouble getting my HR and sometimes body composition, but after these updates you mentioned, all my issues have been resolved. Any issues you experience, as long as they're not hardware malfunction, can be fixed with an update whether it's the app or the scale's firmware.
@@RyansTechMedia Hi Ryan, I'm still having issues. I've got around most of them by creating another user. When you toggle between the two after standing on the scales, it eventually updates the app. But I'm not the only one having issues. I found out about the updated app (causing all the issues), after reading a few forums. Suffice to say the update has caused huge problems for Withings/Health Mate and anyone who have the scales. After three weeks they finally admitted there were errors, and they're in the process of trying to rectify them.....they've been working on them for a couple of months, which just goes to show you how massive the stuff up was.
I keep my Withings app up to date and they’ve added a couple new features. In the beginning sometimes it would struggle with readings for example it couldn't get my heart rate, etc. But now everything just works every time and the hr is spot on when I compare it to my smartwatch hr.
Garmin is the best deal out there no subscription. You know what annoys me about subscription health products aswell it's literally my data. I'm sure whether you pay or not your data is still collected and profited on.
This Scale is garbage and customer service is the worst ever. Scale doesn't work as advertised,: No visceral mass, the vascular mage works intermittently. when contacted customer service i got to canned responses that didn't address the issues at hands. DO nOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. THIS SCALE IS USELESS AND A GIMMIC

any update of the subscription service you mention after a year?

It depends on you. But the body composition is a really good feature worth tracking. Thanks for watching!
Is the belly fat indication precise ?

Excellent review. Thank you!
My pleasure Mattia!
Costco is selling this scale for $180 with a Wi-Fi Blood Pressure Monitor, this review helped me to figure out if wanted to buy it, thanks!
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching!
If you don't use health plus is the scale data still usable? I have the scan watch and BP monitor and that data is free atm

@@RyansTechMedia no worries, thanks so much for the reply!
Subscription service(getting milked monthly) for an already extremely expensive scale.
I'm not an athlete, but I have a resting heart rate under 60bpm. What should I choose when it asks for it?
Athletes heart rate can go below 40bpm, so you don't need to select the athlete mode. Thanks for watching!
Which model is this? I see Body+, Body Cardio and Body Analyzer models online.
This is Body Comp Steve. It's only available on their website for now: www.withings.com/us/en/body-comp

Had this in basket . But not now so will buy the Garmin scale’s as no subscription
Does it show ICW (intracellular water) and ECW (extracellular water) in the app? Can you show some sort of walkthrough of all the metrics in the app?

How does this scale differ from the upcoming one with a retractable handle?
That one will have a 6-lead ECG with a-fib detection and also has segmental body composition, for example your left and right legs.
@@RyansTechMedia thx
I honestly don't unde how they plan on getting accurate readings without a second sensor like what the Huawei Smartscale 3 Pro has...
Thanks for your review

My main concern is Withings selling your data. Personal body metrics should be even more private than website usage data.
Will this show bmi
Excellent
Kendall Roy is now UA-camr I guess
Not a fan on subscriptions, I’m paying for a scale to give me numbers! Just give me the info
sounds like a good scale was going to buy it but will not if i need a subscription
For basic functionality there is no need for a subscription.
I'm not paying $370 for a scale then paying extra for subscriptions...

It’s $99 for a year
Tom morello vibes Cominatcha
The accuracy is terrible and there are huge differences to the previous model . No athlete Modus included 😂
I'm not going to buy this scale just because of the app subscription plan. Ridiculous!!! 👎

They have been making scales since 2009....theyre doing something right. pffft!
