Di Stefano, Corelli, Bergonzi, Vickers, Domingo... han sido sin duda estupendos Canio; sin embargo la vocalidad desbordante de Del Monaco los supera a todos. Hay que remontarse a Caruso para buscar una comparativa. Y aún con sus gestos de cine mudo, emociona hoy día, en pleno siglo XXI, por su entrega franca y sincera. MDM will always keep his fans over the generations to come, as there were only a few before him, certainly no comparable Tenor after him. Mediocrity reigns supreme.

Monaco is simply thrilling than he's ever been and sings just awesome here in this Bolshoi production of 'I Pagliacci'..it was particularly much more inspiring and impressive to me since all the other cast are Russian singers and naturally sing in their native tongue while Mario sings the original text..Gosh..!! what an amazing 'Ridi Pagliacco' he sings here..it took my breath away..a phenomenal tenor of all times for no doubt..thanks a lot to whoever has added this feed to UA-cam..

I know Del Monaco sang Jose in Italian, Arkhipova sang Sang Carmen in Russian... Never mind that "Carmen" is Frenc opera, but this is my favourite performance

It was acceptable to sing Wagner in Italian, especially in Italian opera houses, during that time. The public then will not accept Wagner being sung in Italian opera houses because of, well, Hitler. And yes, Tebaldi's singing of Wagner was, IS, thrilling.

Знаток оперы. А что не пишешь про русских певцов как иностранцы про них пишут. Такие как лемешев Козловский, атлантов. Я уж не говорю про великих Шаляпина и хворостовского.
@@user-xj6nv4px3b искусство пения и актерская игра,это разные вещи.Дима очень хорошо пел,у Лемешева была галушка на переходняке, Иван Семёнович носализировал и пел в манере разговора лиц с нетрадиционной ориентацией))

Awful in comparison to Enrico Caruso who actually didn't even NEED to act to convey the character. MDM needed to take up some vocal acting classes with Caruso, that's for certain.

It had nothing to do with egoes, but was common at those times. Del Monaco himself sang Jose in Italian, not French the same year in Bolshoi.
That recording technique couldn't withstand this immensely powerful tremendous voice.

You know Renata Tebaldi refused to sing in any other language but italian. She actually sang Wagner in Italian and it was thrilling.
