The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

What a powerful voice. The 50s was a decade of opera monsters like Mario Del Monaco, Franco Corelli, Mario Lanza, Björling and others.
I know right. Without them the 3 tenors would never have came about.

This is superlative in every respect. Most powerful post war tenor, if not of all time. His self confident, near brazen style captivates all with both tenderness and sexual tension. Corelli is most often my ‘go to’ tenor, but Mario had another level of power and joy in vocal expression. Extremely captivating.

Presence of ANY OPERA SINGER IN OPERAS HISTORY.
Complete command. And it was compelling. The greatest vocal powerhouse of the last 100 years.
That left me speechless. It's a privilege to witness such greatness. I loved his smile once that gut-wrenching aria was finished.
The orchestra is so much better than its studio version, also the way he's singing is incredible

Excellent, I saw him in 1959 in the opera house singing Otello, the greatest dramatic tenor I've ever seen in my over 63 years of attending opera, the other great Canio singing this live for me was American Spinto tenor Richard Tucker, another favorite Canio of mine.
Favorite Canio that lasts till his final hour... Richard Grand Tucker deserves to be on the preferred list. Mario and Richard Tucker's singing are so inspiring, every single time🅰🅰🅰

@@eugeniogentili1048 Corelli was a plastic, he was with some darkness but not enough, he was so rough, especially at the end of career then he lost some darkness. Monaco was with full darkness, but too wide. You can even compare Musica probita versions of Monaco and Caruso, Caruso seems more leggero behind Monaco, so interesting
His voice is so brilliant and strong. If other tenor's voice is a ring of light, his voice could be the laser. I've been listening to his records since i was in senior high (that was just 2 years ago).

I think still that MDM and Tucker are both dramatic role experts. Caruso is the god father of tenor in general.

Ah, this is absolutely incredible! Fantastic, I loved it so much! This was apparently Mario's first appearance on the Sullivan show, and I've never seen it before! Thank you so much for posting this! I hope you will post Mario's other appearances as well! According to an episode guide, he also sang "Musica Prohibita", "Tu, Ca Nun Chiagner" and "Some Enchanted Evening" on other Sullivan shows. I'd love to see those too!
