I believe that Eric Sykes was one of the most talented British actors, he could say a sentence with one facial expression ... he entertained millions of us ..
Why haven’t we got things like this anymore it’s absolutely fantastic thank you for your upload and reminding me how great our TV used to be and for all the cast for making these sketches and making our miserable little lives a little bit more enjoyable thank you and God Bless you guys 💞✝️🙏🏻😘🇬🇧🏴
James Henderson are you the sort of P.C. Brigade that wants to argue about nothing but spoil everyone’s fun if you don’t find this funny then why were you watching it sounds like I was right in thinking you just like to comment about things so you can argue about nothing! Perhaps you really should get a life and stop thinking you’re important! And get a sense of humour for God’s sake
Stuck inside thanks to this dreaded virus. Finding these British classics has brought back fond memories. Even found THE PLANK I'd forgotten all about that. 🤗🤗
Luckily, I didn't need the virus. These classics have been with me for 60 years or more. I'm glad that you've found them. You'll always have a smile and laugh.
I absolutely LOVED the Plank! I watched the 1979 remake first (which I adored as a child) & my grandma found me a copy of the 1967 original. Weirdly enough, I didn't facy the original at the time compared to the remake, but after watching all of Tommy's best gags, I now appreciate the original SO MUCH more! Sykes & Cooper are dynamite together 🤘
I met Hattie once during the on location filming of an episode of Sykes.. I held her hand as she struggled down a steep embankment leading to the film vehicles and a double Decker bus which they were using as the canteen.. All the others, including Sykes and Derek Guyler, had rushed on ahead leaving her on her own. She was very thankful for the help of a few young lads who had wandered along and became curious about the all the lighting and film crew they could see... A very gracious and engaging lady, gone too soon and sadly missed..
Thank you for sharing. I was born 9 years after her death but I grew up greatly admiring her performances. She was a national treasure and very underrated. I also believe whilst she was excellent in comedy she could have done anything such was her ability as an actress. I think this was amongst the last things she did. She died far far too young.
I remember being in the UK back in 1974 and seeing this movie as a prelude to a Pink Floyd movie shot in the amphitheatre of Pompeii. It was hilarious at the time! Thanks for the memory. Cheers from the Train Lord in South Australia
Must have been one of the last appearances of Roy kinnear ... brilliant British actor , and I'm glad Thay found a part for Eric in a Harry Potter film...even if it was for a minute , his grandkids must have been impressed!!.💕🇬🇧🇺🇦
No he died 1988, his last appearance was in ‘the return of the musketeers’ he died during filming. This is however the last appearance of Hattie Jacques. She died one month before this was released.
Bob walker this must have been made in the 1970's, the boy is the same one in George and Mildred. I don't remember this programme, but I don't think we would have been allowed to watch as we were high Church of England and the Rhubarb, Rhubarb skit would have been deemed blasphemous.
The kid who is dragged before the Police Officer (Eric Sykes) is Nicholas Bond-Owen.....better known as Tristram Fourmile, the child of the neighbours in the George & Mildred TV series
talking pictures tv have aired this film tonight - and I missed it!!!!!!! I know I could watch it on catchup (anyone can in the uk) and I probably will later on. a true comedic masterpiece. I'm of the thinking we need a new version of this to keep the power of the rhubarb going. 👍
I was puzzled by the 1980 date, as I was sure I'd seen it before then. Turns out there's a film version of this from 1969, and this is a television remake. The original is slightly longer
That screen they had to keep golf balls from hitting their house reminds me of a guy who lived next to a fairway in my town. He had a permanent screen on the side of his house that faced the course. The balls would hit it, and because the screen was a bit loose, they would just fall to the ground. The balls would roll down a slope he had made, and go into a bucket. He made a fair amount of spending money selling those balls.
I watched this last night on TPTV. I suppose it was one of those ’shorts’ they used to show before the main feature. I enjoyed seeing the UK in ‘69…. Everyone in it was trying hard, though it didn’t really work as a comedy, for me. There were a handful of decent visual gags here and there. Still glad I eventually got to see it though.
Just watched a couple of Cheers and Taxi episodes followed by this effort. I suppose it was the best comedy the Brits could produce at the time but compared to the American stuff it is tired and pathetic and embarrassing to watch. The odd thing is that Sykes co-wrote some of the Goon Shows with Spike - the best and most innovative humour ever - but sank to these hackneyed depths on his own. His silent comedy owes much to Jacques Tati... but then Tati was a genius.
I believe that Eric Sykes was one of the most talented British actors, he could say a sentence with one facial expression ... he entertained millions of us ..
That is what I would call a timeless chef d'oeuvre of British comedy.
Simple, great and fully representing how Britain was at these times.

Just sooo very funny Eric Sykes at his very best with so many great friends included in this video xx love it 😍
The little boy - that's 'Tristan' (Nicholas Bond-Owen) from another comedy favourite 'George & Mildred' !

She was lovely. she and Eric had a fantastic rapport in "Sykes and a ..."
I was there...
There ?
Not so gracious to her husband John Le Mesurier though.

10/10 for real comedy....Eric Sykes and the gang were true comical Geniusisss!!
All the British comedy greats in one film Brilliantly done

@James Henderson well I must have gotten it mixed up with something else then while I was in Europe in 1980/81.
Pink Floyd at Popei was fantastic too.
@@TrainLordJC You must've seen the original 1969 version of this short film. Eric Sykes remade it in 1980.
Love British comedy!!! Better than the crap that passes for humor now!!
its always a pleasure and fun to watch eric sykes , thanks for the upload Dj Smith , regards from sweden.

Good old British Firms 👍👍👍😊. Something in them we haven't got in our humour anymore, Classics. Geoff Lewis, Wales, UK, 🏴
omg! i thought these "actors"were so old when i 1st saw these film's (as repeats in the 70's) A real A-Z of British talent here.
Bob walker this must have been made in the 1970's, the boy is the same one in George and Mildred.

superb, the best talent ever to grace british tv. sadly all left us now, but still making them laugh wherever they are now I bet!!!
What a comedy cast. British comedy at its best, and nothing today to touch it.
The kid who is dragged before the Police Officer (Eric Sykes) is
Nicholas Bond-Owen.....better known as Tristram Fourmile, the child of the neighbours in the George & Mildred TV series
aye I knew he potentially had a naughty streak
Thank you, I thought I recognised "Tristan" Nicholas Bond-Owen from George and Mildred.
Yep, I thought so too!!

Bob Todd always made me laugh so much, so funny!

Watching this as a kid, I lost my shit everything that squirrel dropped the golf ball on the bobby's head xD
All at their peak. Thank you.
Best of British comics can't be bettered
Love this and The Plank, It’s Your Move and Mr H Is Late.
I was puzzled by the 1980 date, as I was sure I'd seen it before then. Turns out there's a film version of this from 1969, and this is a television remake. The original is slightly longer
Poor old Hattie had already gone when this first aired.
Better comedy, better sectors, better days - thank God for UA-cam !

Awsome,thanku for posting😊
Absolute classic.
Jimmy "Wacko!" Edwards must have spent half his film career dressed as constable pushing a bike around.
Beautiful entertained.
Brilliant stuff mate watched the plank etc absolutely fantastic
or 'Mr H Is Late'
Great comedy thank you
So Simple...So Funny...So Good....So Missed.
THANK YOU....... I'VE MISSED THIS FOR SOOOOO LONG. MWAH
This gets me every time... rhubarb rhubarb, and that's it!
Last film for Hattie Jakes before she died, You can see she is unsteady on her feet and had both legs bandaged so she could stand.
This was the last thing we saw Hattie appear in.
Yup.
Better the crap you get now this was a time when funny films/programmes were funny
Tom Hamilton this wasn’t and is not funny at all.
Good comedy by Erik sykes
I Wont To Safed Fantasric Comedy Thank You Von Erika 😀😀😀❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the english humor
Those are the most british mustache I've ever seen.
Classic!! 😂🍺🎸🤘😎
Rhubarb !
Another one to watch is The plank. A lot of these actors are in that too. Simple but clever, stupid but funny.
Yes that is the remake. You should watch the original one from 1968 with Tommy Cooper.
Thank you .....I must learn better english..British Comedy is the best....Greetings from Dortmund

Made nearly 40 years ago and still.funny. There's not much "comedy" around now that will stand the rest of time.
Comedy geniuses!
Filmed at the golf club my Parents worked at.
Where is this please

I seen Benny ....❤
This is a Who's Who of British comedy.
It is, but what a waste of that talent with this awful programme.
Bullshit Bullshit. Or Rhubarb Rhubarb
Rhubarb😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤
If u like this look up the Planck
+Victoria smith Yes I found it kids were playing with it
The Plank and Mr H is Late. You laugh until you cry.
Watched a lot of physics videos recently, have you? :D
Victoria smith hello sister yes thank you I’m quite aware of that, but thank you anyway!
Made 40 years ago.......fuk I'm old.
I thought I spied Tristram from George and Mildred.
You did
Thanks a lot...
So funny!
Rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb, rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb!
Brilliant ageless comedy xx
Rhubarb .
Rhubarb rhubarb!
Classic!
That kid is also plays in George and Mildred tv show
Tristum. played by Nicholas Bond.
Ouf when the rent come 🥺😟🙏😳😭the policemen are old ...
I’d love to get ahold of the script for this
Sykes was apparently hard of hearing, hence, his works are effective 'silent' comedy too. Watch 'The Plank', or 'Mr H Is Late' ... same.
❤❤❤❤❤ 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Very funny and they talks in this clip like in Sims
Instead of rhubarb rhubarb we could have brexit brexit now.
Quality
Genius
Ahh. They dont make films like this anymore.
Thank fucking god.
,,, ✨🎶 TRISTAN FORMYLE IS IT..???🎶✨
👍
Bril!
Rhubarb definitely wasn't made in 1980. It was way before that I remember watching It on TV around 1977
The original was made in the 60s. This is a 1980 remake.
@@sirknight1399 thank you for your reply. I knew there was a version out before 1980
very funny
Makes you wonder doesn't it ???
El Sr. Sykes es de la Escuela de Jacques Tati.
Check out Barge with Harry H Corbit
That was totally rhubarb!
I always thought Rhubarb and Rhubarb and The Plank were over-rated. I didnt laughed at them at all for some reason, but I guess were all different.
The Message is clear: We must return to All Mighty God! 😂
This is the most silliest movie ever!!!!😡
Boring. Not at all the same quality as The Plank.
ALL OPERATION FERNBRIDGE CONFIRMED CHILD MOLESTERS.
Not quite true as Dennis Price not in it.
Eric Sykes supported Ian Smith's regime in Rhodesia.
These days that would be career ending , back then very few people cared and it didn't affect Eric's career.
Proper laughable comedy unlike today’s shite
Zz Z Z Z
Crap back then. Still crap now.
teviottilehurst I totally agree.
