Which Generation Maddog Is The Best and Which Should I Buy?

  • I get asked this question a lot since I own all 3 Generations. The Gen 1, Gen 4 or Gen 5. I will give my opinions on this as well as what I think are the pros and cons of the Gen I, IV and V Icebear Maddog. Regardless of the Generation the year of the bike does not change the scooters characteristics so this should apply to all year models.

      All these Chinese scooters almost share the same wiring harness. They are simple enough you could build your own if you started from another one. Any GY6 harness would have the correct plugs. Just may to be lengthened some

      @@GhettoWrench Definitely look like it would be easy to make one, especially having and old one to compare to a long the way. I'm still studding the AC/DC differences on these bikes

    • @GhettoWrench
      @GhettoWrench  Місяць тому +1

      @nicskeptic only real dif is this. AC; stator feeds power into CDI and the blue wire triggers the CDI to release that power to the coil. AC system can run with dead or no battery.
      DC: battery feeds power to CDI and blue trigger wire from stator tells CDI to release power to coil. Stator charges battery to keep it from dying since it is firing your plug.

    My maddog is a gen 5 with the 14 inch wheels and the front disc brake is on the left which I don't like. My other scooter has 12 inch wheels and the front disc brake is on the right side. I like both scooters but I originally bought the 150cc as a parts scooter. It was crashed so the steering tube is bent.

    I have actually done a slight modification to my gen 5- I put a 205/30-14 golf cart tire onto the rear tire- took the old crappy shock that was already broken- discovered this after I took it off- so I ended up putting a 350mm shock on the rear.....ask me hoe I did that without the shock rubbing the tire and the tire just rubbing against everything else- it can be done- and it made my ride wayyyyy better- I'm almost 300lbs and 6ft5- but, man, I'm about to use that ghetto wrench fuel pump idea- I'll let you know how it goes. I have one question- there are several "super transmission kits" on the market- in your opinion, what is the best and most dramatic as far as performance? Can you order parts feom ali and other places, and piece one of those clutch variator kits together for cheaper or is it best just to go with the NYC kit? I actually had one of those kits bit someone broke into my camper trailer and stole it while I was at work- so I never got to see how well it performed. Please write me back- I could use more pointers as I am planning to do several more upgrades- and all my lights quit working, my electric start, etc- and I could use some guidance. Thanks brother- love the content!

    • @GhettoWrench
      @GhettoWrench  15 днів тому

      @j8k3th3gr8 the electrical issue sounds like the glass tube fuse since everything died. I have a whole video on why transmission kits are a scam and what individual parts to buy. I like shopping on NCYSTORE.COM because they have the best descriptions and compatibility of the parts. Beware of the clutch springs that engage at higher rpm like blue and red. At your weight especially you will end up with more clutch slippage and it will overheat like crazy. The only thing that will make a diff is a larger variator and playing with different size roller weights. Both cheap to buy. You need to have power and be making RPM like 9000 to go up in variator size and then longer 842 belt or you will just lug down the motor as it will be geared too high and you will end up slower.

      @GhettoWrench  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks. Did you gear up a 50? I geared up a 150, but doing a deep dive on gear up sets and what comes in these maddogs. I think all the diff Gens have diff gear sets because the tire diameters are all so different. My Gen 1 is already 13:1 final wheel ratio. Insane. Any kit I find would actually gear it down. Which may help cause I can't get above 8k RPM AND have a heavy enough roller to push out the big variator.

      @nicskeptic frtront wheels all fit all except 1 issue. The Gen 5 is 14" so the Gen 5 forks have less travel or else it will hit the frame. So putting the Gen 5 wheel on the other 2 two appears to fit fine until you hit the brakes or a bump then it hits the frame.

      There isn't much to these to make them spark.
      I bought one that is a 170cc and not the standard gy6. I played hell trying to figure out why it wouldn't run properly. After swapping plenty of parts I figured out it was an intermittent issue, the type that makes everything harder than hell to figure out. The pick up coil or sensor, whatever that thing is called, is not sending a good signal. So after changing the coil and wiring all kinds of things better and taking off every single piece of garbage Chinese plastic that I may never get back on. I changed the carburetor and it fired right up as if everything was perfect. I thought great! Then it wouldn't start again but still has spark. What I figured out is that when it is erroring it only sparks every other time that it is supposed to. The only part I can think of that can cause that is the pick up coil on the magneto. It's an oil bath type so I have to tear it apart and find another one.
      No spark can only be a few things. Bag plug, bad coil, bad cdi box, bad pick up sensor or bad wiring.
      If Ted on this channel doesn't have a video about this there is another guy that tears one down completely. His channel is called: lab coat Paul. He does a very good job showing everything that goes wrong with these Chinese scooters.
