    Peter thank you., I was just wondering about this topic a few days ago. Crazy to think you’ve had this video for two years now. Thanks for spreading the knowledge you have amassed over the years. Been subscribed for a while now, and constantly learning every time I watch a vid. Trying to put a components together for my next car build,and learning what I can from you and your videos. ✌🏾

    That was me that asked that question in your last video about the airbags in the A pillar.and even though you addressed it under My comment I really appreciate the video thank you.
    I have a 2017 Toyota tundra that I may end up doing a 6.5" in the door and also kick Panel and in the A pillar a 3" or 4" plus soft dome tweeter.
    Right now I have a single Fi audio SSD Neo 12" sub in a blow through ported box tuned at 30hz with a Sundown 2K amp. I will be eventually be getting two of there 50.4 amps to run all 8 channels to the front stage. No rear fill

    You could delete the airbag and put in a resistor on the airbag plug but, you would increase the risks of serious injury or death in the unlikely event of an accident. Alternatively, just have the tweeter on each a pillar and put the wideband drivers pointing upwards on the dashboard.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  2 роки тому

      Sure, but some customers don’t want mids on the dashboard.

      As an audio install shop they could be sued in case of a crash. That could bankrupt PSSound. This is why stereo installers never delete airbags for customers.

    I'm a body tec and seen a pillar trim in the back seat after a accident even ripped off the all attachment points many car companies say to replace the trim not just the clips even if I pull It off to take out headliner and I got to follow factory procedures they do many test and know what works you will not see me in court scared. Iv even seen spare tire ripped out and in the back seat on hatchback and SUVs just remember crazy stuff happens car manufacturers get sued all the time and do millions of dollars in testing. I'm a lead teck and do many hours of training every year to stay certified do this at your own risk imo.

    Just wondering, who dislikes such content without an argument in the comment section?

      @@pssound9749 My point being, that an argument is actually beneficial because people can learn from it, or discuss in detail. Hitting dislike, then not disclosing the reason is just dickish, instead of productive.

      @@pssound9749 Annoyed by your introduction is an argument to be made, not a reason to straigh away downvote your content, ain't it? In my honest opinion, first time viewers deserve, and most probably require some form of introduction about who is talking. Anyway, I much appriciate you sharing your knowledge and being so open with your experience and work! Just don't get why one would downvote something without explanation.

    Do the pods need to be sealed to get SQ? This looks like it would be considered IB, right?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  Рік тому

      It’s not sealed, breathes behind the pillar and the dash. I prefer mids to be open for less compression on the cone.

    I just finished building a 6 speakers pillar for my car but now I'm driving a newer model and has airbags in the pillar with a grab handle , I dont know how big and which ways the air back blows because its minivan I`m thinking about going to the junk yard with few battery's in my pocket and trigger the airbag of a car like mine and see how much safe space I have to work with and make sure I wont get hit in the head with a speaker in a accident

    Hi Peter, can you comment about the sound quality of these U2 pillar drivers?
    I assume they can get loud enough for the owner as well. The low-ish power rating gets me worried, though.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, those power ratings are usually for full range use, but once you have the appropriate HPF, they can have 100-150W behind them. In a fully active system the mids only ever see 20-50W max even at full tilt levels.

    In an installation like this do you have both drivers aimed at the same angle or are they aimed specifically for the driver?

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  5 років тому +2

      Clayton Not quite. Driver side is the trickier to keep it away from the side window, yet keeping it on-axis enough to get great top-end response without tweeter for pure SQ preset. Then you have to find an aiming for passenger side to make it sound as similar as driver’s side.

    • @claytonmckeon9872

      @@pssound9749 Thanks for your reply. With a different tune can you make it sound good for passengers? By the way Thanks for all of your videos. I've learned allot from them especially from the door enclosure videos.

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  5 років тому +2

      Clayton I think it’s another topic i have to cover why people think that a system sounds bad on the passenger side. Obviously you can’t have perfect staging for both sides at the same time, but spectral balance can be fine for the passenger too even with a driver’s focused preset.

  • @donnpassMTB

    your pillar speaker will block the side air vents? I don't think is good to block it and air goes straight to the speaker

    • @pssound9749
      @pssound9749  4 роки тому +1

      Donn Pass the mould of the speaker install covers the dash, so no air goes to the speaker at all. Yes, they cover those small vents, but there’s no fogging on the side windows at all. Sacrifices always have to be made in car audio if you want the best sound.

      @@pssound9749 I agree about sound, I was thinking also to make and custom pillars I got BWM 3 series and its only 4' doors speakers but what I was planed not sure if it's good and worthed to do pillars for tweeter and 2 or 3' speaker also in the doors 4' and under-seat subwoofer but this will be 4 way now, do you think is good idea to have this type of system ?>

    • @donnpassMTB
      @donnpassMTB 4 роки тому

      To confirm my plan to go active, so in pillars i will go with Hybrid audio X1 and X3-pp and in the doors do l4se drivers, or its just waisting time and money spending on these type or speakers ?
