    Thank you John for all your time and effort. Newmarket rd and Eaton still seem to retain their historical look.

      Thank you Martin. Yes you're right, there haven't been very many changes....but I still couldn't find that house in the snow!

    Superb video, John. I attended Town Close school between 1987 - 1993 and spent many days walking up the Newmarket road to get to the playing fields. I was always fascinated by the many different styles of houses. There really is so much history in this part of the city.

    I've lived in Norwich for a very long time John, but your wonderful videos show me a Norwich that I never knew existed and as I walk around, I see it with new eyes. Thank you so much.

    Thanks very much for the video. I lived in Poplar Avenue, just off the Newmarket Road from 1943-1945. I was quite young then! Google maps still refuse to cover it. I remember a unit of US tanks taking a wrong turning into the cul-de-sac. The commander thought he was turning into Bluebell Road. They are had to go into reverse! It all quite frightened me. More memories, but for another day.

      That's a great story, thank you for adding it - it's the sort of thing which might prompt a memory for someone else.

    My Dad lived in Leopold Close in the 1950's and as a small boy attended Unthank Collage on Newmarket Road ,located between Daniels Road and Leopold Road .The headmaster was a chap called Dudley Miller. Also in Eaton Village there was a sweet shop named Otterways .

    I was looking forward to seeing this one, particularly as I did the long walk too! Newmarket Road has kept much of its historical tree-lined identity, which is lovely except for the abundance of trees making it very difficult to find the houses we were searching for! Oh dear, the village sign! They were obviously struggling for ideas! Btw, I didn't hear any buzzing on my laptop but you should perhaps consider seeking advice about improving the quality of the sound. I know we need to improve our sound quality when we go out and about. A very enjoyable video, well-researched and presented. Thank you!

      Thank you for your comment, and your help in putting this video together. Yes, the explanation behind the village sign leaves something to be desired! Sound wise, I can only think of upgrading the microphone, but I'll try a few tweaks before doing that!

    I use to live on Eaton Street opposite the delivery entrance for Roy's/waitrose. A bit noisy at time about it was a nice place. It was even better when there was a bakery in the row of shops 😂

      I lived over the other side of the bridge on Intwood Road. The enemy! Haha
      But that row of shops was great, Ron Greens for sweats, comics and stink bombs, Miles Bikes to get you bike sorted, the bakery for all kinds of goodness and the original Chinese take away too.
      And the cut through from the Red Lion car park into Roys, the department store, the ciggy shop, the chenmist and the supermarket.

    Super stuff as always John. Not strictly related to the content, but I was struck by the NCFC kit (@2:11). Some players have left side blue and others right side blue on their tops. Is this genuine or just an artefact of the colourization, does anybody know?

      That's very interesting (and observant!) Wikipedia makes reference to this, but doesn't offer any explanation. My explanation for what it's worth - some platers were wearing their shirts inside out!

    • @JohnAtkinsLostNorwich
      @JohnAtkinsLostNorwich  2 дні тому +1

      Thanks, I wasn't aware the buzzing had returned. I know you mentioned it on a previous video - have you changed the device on which you're listening? I was advised how to deal with it (through audio levels) and I've reduced it to 90%, which is as far as I dare go to avoid having to shout! Thanks for offering to help - any advice gratefully received!

      My sound is fine. I would not have noticed it if it had not been pointed out. I suppose if you mounted what every you are using to record onto a padded surface might just remove the slight verbration. But, I am fine with it as it is. 👍

      It shounds like a grounding problem. Almost as if a mic has not been inserted quite enough.
