I think for Hasselblad, this is a miss, especially given since the Fujifilm GFX 100S has it in a much cheaper package (and 4K, no less). The fact that they gave up so easily, and the enormous amount of rolling shutter in electronic-only shutter mode, suggests that they didn't put enough R&D into the pipeline processing. That said, I probably won't be excited for digital medium format video until someone unlocks open-gate sensor readout. Just imagine digital medium format anamorphic video... buds, that'll be insane.
Prob not this one ☝🏼 I believe anyone getting this system knows exactly what they’re looking for and getting into. For this kind of $$, there are better hybrid cameras (overall).
Hasselblad targets the 'studio photographer' demographic. Tripods are about that life. People here on youtube complaining about the speed of professional production cameras ( or the lack of video shooting ) is always a bit off-putting because no one is buying hasselblads for their video capability or street photography. Of course, Becca did not complain. But came close. We must remember that these are 'WORK CAMERAS'. These cameras help you get paid. I Sold a couple of my leica's for the X2S 100c and some glass. This is my 4th day with this kit. My mind is blown and I've made some new friends in California who are paying me to.. get this : Go on their yacht for a couple of days and shoot them with this camera. All this because they saw me shooting with it and somehow knew that I'm from Switzerland. The power of Hasselblad. Greets.
Yeah it’s really silly the consumer perspective. Would be fun to see Becca review a cinema camera like the Arri Alexa “it doesn’t shoot stills, it’s really heavy I couldn’t hand hold it, manual focus unacceptable, the prime lenses weigh 1.5kg… and the cost”
Nonsense. This isn't the H6D... You should review how Hasselblad are promoting the X2D - specifically as a hand held camera for shooting outdoors. How she tested it is perfectly in line with the companies positioning as shown in their advertisements.
As I have been understanding, much like the X1D2 vs. the GFX 50/50s/50r, the sensor is the same on the X2D and GFX 100/100s, meaning the new X2D has the same 102 effective MP size. Hasselblad calibrates the sensors differently once ethey receive them (from Sony), which meets the Natural Color Science Hasselblad is known for.
Just picked one up. That day I shot college sports (on Canon) at 12 fps. On the way home I shot landscapes on the X2D…at one fps. It took me back to my film days. Look, Think, Compose, Shoot.
Great vid as always Becca! I'd love a camera explainer like which kind to get for what use cases and what the different terminology means. And i know anyone interested in this camera wouldn't care at all about that but it would still be cool
Technically solid, succinct and sparkling. You are one good reviewer. The downside is that you have upped my desire for one of these. I love what my M9 does with light. This camera seems able to do wonderful tings with light, too. I am watching the reviews and looking for images from the X2D. Thanks for the review and cheers.
Those colours look so insanely lush. Video on a relatively compact medium format camera is just a recipe for either overheating, or a line skipped, pixel binned mess. The video on the X1Ds was an absolute mess, so binning that and having a focused photo camera is kinda a breath of fresh air. Still like my film Hassy more, but I am one of those borderline film only weirdos
your emotion at about the 2:40 mark is the entire point of the camera. It's an uncompromising, incomparable imaging experience. That's what they are selling and good lord do they deliver it
I have no intention of ever buying a camera but I would watch you review paint drying Becca. Infectious and passionate in equal measure. Beautiful piece if equipment also. Who doesn’t love the look of a hassleblad. Keep up the amazing work!
Nice review, and thanks for the information on this camera. It's hard to put my finger as to why, but your style and delivery had me smiling the whole time, and had me thinking I could watch videos of you explaining how grass grows.... however, I'm glad you chose photography as your channel's focus instead... instant subscriber here (with alerts!). You better have a lot of videos, because I'm about to binge watch.... Keep up the great content!
The Verge . . . . . of all the camera reviews, this is the most sympathetic, least pretentious, unobtrusive and enjoyable post. Thank you very much! Rarely has anyone presented a product as credibly as you - the best Hasselblad ambassador ever - nice camera, by the way! Cheers, Shlomo 🙂
I don't think I really care that much about anything Becca reviews, not a fan of earbuds, and I'm a rubbish photographer. And yet I've loved every single Becca video! Thanks bud!
Not even kidding a Hassle Blad is what will gift my self if I can go full-time on youtube and quit my current job. IT IS SUCH AN OVER-THE-TOPS DESIRABLE OBJECT.
Don’t. It’s not a video camera. Hasselblad cameras are specially made for photography. If you’re looking for amazing video quality go for a RED camera or a Sony one
I was just thinking to myself the other day, "Haven't seen Becca Farsace lately..." and then this video dropped! Thank You! Love seeing amazing new cameras that I'll never be able to afford. 😅
Phase One (Mamiya) the people who make Capture One have a 150MP Medium Format Camera. This camera is not "just for Studio Photography" Any Photographer who needs medium format (Car, Portrait, Landscape, Archival, Photo Journalist etc) can use this. Its only Sport Photography where it's extremely tedious to even attempt to get the same photos 15-30fps burst cameras now have
I don't get why so many people are obsessed with video functions in professional stills cameras? Nobody would ever buy an Arri or Red camera and demand high quality stills functions.
I don’t know if it’s the megapixels, the format or the color depth, probably a mix of all three, but these images look huge... It’s like your capturing so much of scene with each click.
This is a camera meant for specialists, as medium format typically is. Comparing the speed of a medium format camera with full frame is also just silly. This reviewer clearly doesn’t have much experience with medium format or understand the market it’s for.
Okay, your zeal in this video for this camera is TRULY making me want this $8k+ camera well $12k by the time u get a lens too! LOL! DAMN!! hefty price tag, but I've owned the old X1DII, and that was nice!
Love the enthusiasm Becca...this camera may not be for everybody but if it can evoke enthusism and inspire one to go out and take photos and be creative, then it may be worth the high price tag
I can't agree more with her Hypothesis about medium format getting more popular. I mean, look at almost all popular cameras today, they are almost all mirrorless full-frame cameras. APSC sensors are going by the wayside. Smartphone cameras have replaced 90% of my shooting and I only need to Digg out my A7 for its focal length abilities (lenses are the main player here) and its raw sensor size. I would suggest that in 3-5 years, anyone who buys a camera will be buying a full-frame or medium format purely for sensor size and focal length diversity.
i successfully watched 4 or 5 other videos about the X2D without feeling really sad that i was just $8100 short of being able to afford it. Becca's excitement about this camera broke me, though. i'm going to stare at my bank account and sigh longingly now
Very disappointed by the AF on this camera and the color bleed inside the EVF. Two things that shouldn’t be an issue in 2022, even with MF…look at Fuji. I was hoping this new camera would put Hasselblad on a level playing field with Fuji, but that doesn’t seem the case. Anyway great presenting once again Becca, you’re really good at this 👍
I've been rocking a first gen g7x for ages and while I have no intention of buying a new camera, I'll always watch Becca's camera reviews, just simply great content. And the eye candy from the photos whew
Seems genuinely batshit insane that something like this would cost so much when basically every other piece of technology is orders of magnitude cheaper and more capable. Feels like they're just trying to fleece creatives, their profit margins have to be stomach-churning
Another element of the digital medium format race is film photographers who are fed up with paying for film and development costs. If a company releases an "affordable" medium format option, the space could get very interesting (looking at you Fujifilm).
Not sure how much time hassleblad has left honestly. What they offer for the price just isn’t creating as much separation between them and the rest of the market in 2022.
I have a 24 megapixels crop sensor Leica CL camera which takes amazing quality photos. I can't even imagine the mind blowing quality of the photos coming out of that Hasselblad. I can't deny that I would love to try it. If I had money to splash I would be very happy with 50 megapixel sensor of the previous Hasselblad model, the X1D mark II. Still a bit a too expensive for me though 😕. Becca your videos are impeccable!
I loved the review from every aspect (flow, structure, b-roll...) and I think it was great in general but I do have a point of contention. The essence of the camera is to be a stills camera. Let's just think for a moment of an example we can use for comparison like a certain Japanese knife that is only designed to cut fish slices for Sushi, now you wouldn't begrudge the fact that it can't be used to debone a rib, so when you were talking about the video capabilities of the camera (or lack of thereof) and mentioned that it was a photography-centric camera, it didn't make any sense that immediately after acknowledging this, you basically said: "but it should have video on 2022". This contradiction disregards your own assessment about it being a stills dedicated device and the fact that it is indeed a piece of equipment whose whole ethos is about the experience of taking pictures, of enhancing the art of capturing still images. So it creates a bit of confusion there for someone who might not know the philosophy and raison d'etre of this camera. Nobody buys a Ferrari and complains they can't use it for off-roading, same way, nobody that is actually looking to buy this camera will complain that it can't do video and the fact that you mentioned it as a con makes it seem like you missed the whole point of it there for a moment. Other than that, I loved it and have since subscribed. Really looking forward to seeing more of your work! All the love from Scotland :)
The biggest problem that Hasselblad has is it’s slow autofocus system, which Leica used to have an Leica got rid of that problem. This is the number one reason why a potential buyer will stay away from this camera. As a photographer you want a tool that can nail the shot and you want to get in and get out
Just look at the color and of quality of photos. Such a unique color science then leaf shutter. Anyone complaining don’t understand hasselblads capabilities. Not having to use 600 watts flashes. And using small portable camera and flashes plus light stands. What more do you want
This video isn’t on the Verge app on the Apple TV yet. The app seems to be broken. Once you play a video, you can’t go back to the main homepage of the Verge app by pressing the menu button the ATV remote.
A question. How did you find those two lenses? On Hasselblad's website smaple downloadable images for those lenses, oddly, the 38mm lens photos look extremely soft compared to what I would expect, while the 55mm lens sample photos look as good or better than an H6 could produce. Thank you so much for any feedback! Great and honest review as well.
Really good analysis with that rare thing[mostly]….great pictures from the reviewer.Very tempting, great quality…but no video?hmmm.thanks great reporting.
Does a camera released in 2022 need video capabilities? (I’m so torn on this..)

I’m quite happy Hasselblad didn’t try to make this a hybrid camera. Hybrid camera means more ports, more controls, more parts and more menu options.
It’s a ‘studio’ camera, right? I’m sure most people buying this won’t be using it for video.
Prob not this one ☝🏼
I believe anyone getting this system knows exactly what they’re looking for and getting into. For this kind of $$, there are better hybrid cameras (overall).
NO
Becca’s energy is hard to explain. It’s just contagious and nice to watch.
word, she sold me on my main camera (A7C). wasn't let down by that review!
crack cocaine
I'm simple. I see Becca, I watch!
Same!!!!
So simple.
Damn yeah
She said she can touch her tongue to her elbow and I almost ALMOST tried if I can too.
Becca = Best Bud!

I wish people from The Verge understand that such kind of camera shouldn't be reviewed the same way as fuji x100v.
@@tor2919 Oh man... Becca reviewing the Arri Alexa.. Yeah, I dont think i would make it to the end of THAT video. 🤣
not sure why you mentioned that you're from Switzerland... its a Swedish company...

Camera drought made me forgot how fun these kind of videos

Bought the damned thing. One great camera! Great image, great color. Great IBIS. Best buy even though it is crazy expensive.
every captured picture looks so dreamy. I want to see that metal lens cap
Yes! I want that.
This is such a good video...probably whats most relatable is Becca's general love of photography which really shines on a Haselblad review
So happy to see Becca & Full Frame. Especially with this wild camera. Great episode!

Two thumbs up for Becca & Full Frame! Great job on this review. Mahalo :)
Your videos are always fantastic and a pleasure to watch! Great details and explained in a very approachable manner. You rock!
Even though I don't understand most of the tec, I always love Becca Farsace videos 💕💕
Correction Guys: The Phase One medium format camera IQ4 is 150 Mega pixels and has been the MP king for quite some years now!

You can have your own channel. Your reviews are great.
the camera along with the lens are 12k do they have a geolocation system in case of theft? I think for that price they should be integrated no?

That rolling shutter effect is trippy.

Always enjoying Becca reviews
Another element of the digital medium format race is film photographers who are fed up with paying for film and development costs. If a company releases an "affordable" medium format option, the space could get very interesting (looking at you Fujifilm).
100mpx on THIS sensor will blow away the same resolution on a 35mm sensor- just physics; pixels are larger, ALWAYS gives a better result. Nice vid!
What is the best Hasselblad with Video capability? Thanks, Becca! And I love those classic Old Hasselblads bulky though they looked!

This camera reminds me of windows phone. I loved it. But the lack of apps ugh. No video on a 8k camera
How does it compare to the fujifilm 100s?
Absolutely beautiful camera, crushing focus issues

which camera and lens was used for filming this review? thxx
Love watching a passion being shared!
Can we use this x2d for video shooting
i was waiting for your review of samsung galaxy buds 2 pro
We love you Becca! ❤️
Strange regarding video, as Karl Taylor who is Hasselblad ambassador says it’s coming in later software. Just like it happened to the original X1D
Really good analysis with that rare thing[mostly]….great pictures from the reviewer.Very tempting, great quality…but no video?hmmm.thanks great reporting.
I felt that pain of excluding video. This Hass' shot itself in the foot, and is dead on arrival thanks to that.
The last time I saw a review like this by Becca, I bought a camera lol
Wonderful photographs.
Also what did you film this episode on.
