I always had to finish my plate too - as an adult the most important thing I've learned is that Tupperware exists. Keeping leftovers for later has changed the way I see food 100%
I can completely relate to the super skinny guy with the coke. I probably drank the same amount as him but haven't had any at all in 18 months. Best decision ever.
IKR? I had to give it up after gastric bypass just so the carbonation wouldn’t expand my stomach, but my joints and skin are absolutely reaping the benefits of cutting out the bubbly sludge.
Update: I actually had an eating disorder at this point, and would skip meals. I drank a lot of cola so that the caffeine would give me enough energy. I'm in recovery right now, and I no longer replace meals with cola.
i know Simon is consuming a lot of sugar, but it would be useful if they could give us an idea of the ideal or normal consumption of sugar. Just for perspective.
Mrs. Edna Welthorpe Actually sugar does have a nutritional benefit. I heard this from my nutritionist. Sugar is good for quick bursts of energy - for example I went on a forty mile bike ride recently and at about mile 26 I ate two bananas and some trail mix and was able to finish it. The issue is that we as a people consume way too much sugar and don’t expend the energy to burn it off. Sugar is there to provide energy quickly when needed.
Wouldn’t it be more scientifically accurate if he called it “Full *sugar* cola”? As gross as Coke is, I will objectively state that I have never had a can or bottle that had chunks of lard floating in it.
i’m very grateful that the person narrating the show made sure to clarify “type 2 diabetes”. type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very different. as a type one diabetic, i got diabetes from genetics, not weight. but when people found out, they started calling me fat and saying i got it from weight gain. it made me feel useless, and i almost fell into the lifestyle and mindset of an anorexic person. please, make sure people know the difference between the types, or else someone with type one may have to go through the same thing i did. i want to personally thank the narrator for clarifying which type it is, and i’m a little disappointed the doctor didn’t. but overall it was still a fantastic episode

I don't normally watch the anorexia sections but this held special interest for me. I've always struggled with weight, specifically being overweight and emotional eating. When I was pregnant I suffered with horrific HG. My dad found me choking on my vomit and had to perform emergency first aid. Even once the sickness subsided, I was absolutely terrified of food. I barely ate enough but I was lucky that my daughter was ok. Then I was breastfeeding and ate like a horse because I was starving all the time. I had to stop breastfeeding cold turkey for various reasons and I gained a stone in 3 months. She's now 15 months and I've done a fantastic job of maintaining my weight for a year (I've never sustained weight before) but now it's time to focus on a weight and size that's healthy for me because this isn't
I used to have 2-3 bottle a day habit. Not as much as some, but still bad. Worst thing was it was mindless.. I hardly even noticed. It ended up being related to a medical issue - nasal polyps. Once it was discovered I had these and they were treated, I cut down to a single 500ml bottle a week, at most. A couple of months later, I noticed myself go back to the old habit pretty much within a couple of days. Got treated again a little more aggressively. That was January. Since then, I can easily go 2-3 weeks without soft drinks. And when I do have something, it's never more than one bottle a week. With the amount I was drinking, and for how long, the amazing thing was how easily I cut the drinks, and the total lack of withdrawal issues. At least now, I know if I start mindlessly drinking again, it's polyps and can be sorted quickly, lol.
Craig is such a good sport. Teases about having nothing to eat but is more interested in Simon doing well. For someone use to eating what he does, you’d think Craig would be groaning in misery. Really such a nice guy.
I actually stopped drinking soda over a year ago. I tried a sip of it not long ago and could not drink it. It made my teeth feel horrible and that chemically sweetness. Nope.
@@XSemperIdem5 Can I ask how you manage to stop drinking it? Was it as simple as just stopping or was it a bit hard to do? Because I really want to give up drinking it & I'm struggling.
@@misspopcoin2204 Once, my brother told me : "I'm sure you can"t stop drinking soda for one month !" I was a teenager then. I did it. And after that month, I wanted to celebrate that with a soda... I couldn't. That is +/- 15 years ago, and, since then, I was never able to drink soda anymore (bubbles hurt my mouth, and I find the taste awful). The most difficult thing is not stopping soda (I wasn't addicted to caffeine), but it was to find something else to drink (I choiced fruit juice). In fact, the most difficult thing I did was, a few years later, stop drinking fruit juice to drink water instead. That wasn't easy, because, for years, I drank water only at night, and I hated the water taste during day. But now, I'm used too and I don't want to drink something else than water in my diary life (fruit juice only at restaurant). :)
Poured myself a glass while watching the intro 😬 it's bad, it's become my "mum fuel" as I call it. I don't drink coffee or energy drinks but apparently I've found another caffeine fix. I keep saying I'll quit when my daughter stops teething but she's been teething 2 weeks of the month for the last 9 months so I know I'm just excusing myself at this point
Our friend moved from Canada to live in the States for work and joked he lost twenty pounds just crossing the border. In the South everybody is bigger so he feels lighter. Definitely, a problem everywhere.
Instead of making me eat my full plate when I was young, my mom would help me not be picky by making me take two “no thank you” bites to try the food, and then she’d always save and reuse the leftovers so there wasn’t food waste.
I do this with my daughter. She has to try everything, but I never force her to eat something she genuinely doesn't like. I remember being a child crying and puking in my mouth and having to swallow it back down, being forced to eat food I hated was traumatizing and I still won't eat those foods. The thing is, I wasn't a picky kid at all, there were and still are only 3 things I refuse to eat, and part of it now is because of the horrible memories.
Im sure this sounds terrible but the supersized meals in this one dont seem that crazy.. like I could easily eat that in day. I spose doing it every single day would make a difference but it just doesnt seem that bad..
That is A LOT of food for a female or non active male. A female needs like one of those sandwiches he had in the morning. Like 1/3 of if his lunch. And like 1/3 of his dinner. Plus two small and healthy snacks. He eats way too much. You do too if you think that is normal.
Kelly Parker sometimes genetics play a big role in this and you metabolism of you don’t seem to inherit a fat set of genes it would be easier for you also if you have never been on a diet that actually mess a lot with your metabolism which will result in gaining weight easier and easier and you having to eat less and less each day for the scale to move at all
Some of his meals seemed pretty reasonable, tbh. I was surprised at the sandwich. It looked like a good, healthy lunch, or at least a regular American balanced lunch... a foot long, what looked like a small serving of chips, and a candy bar. That one seemed pretty regular.
As someone who drinks a similar amount (dr pepper though coke sucks) you’d be surprised by how much your heart can take. According to my boyfriend my heart sounds like I should be running a marathon when we’re laying down. I had anorexia from the age of 16 until my mid-20s. I was terrified of putting on weight when I fell pregnant. Ironically, I had severe morning sickness for the majority of my pregnancy and hardly put on any weight. But I found the weigh-ins at my appointments quite terrifying. I was scared of going above a certain weight, and it wasn't unusual for me to cry about my pregnancy weight.
However well it's cooked, it's still far too fatty and greasy for my liking, but then, to be fair, I'm seriously fat intolerant,as it makes me badly nauseous. I HAVE to eat fish 3 times a week, due to heart problems. I don't like it but I grill it, or bake it in the oven and that does make it slightly more edible.
I thought I had a healthy relationship with food until I realized I was also conditioned as a kid to finish my food no matter what. Really pissed me off that. You can try to Thomas! He needs to put himself in other peoples shoes, primarily in his wife and kids shoes. He needs to imagine their perspective.

Hell u can go on the lifestyle change with him. Your young still. And no matter if he wasn't young he could still try and fight if he really wants to. And get help. I feel like the show should have offered him some sort of counseling as well. Like a local dietacian he could have went to and put him on a healthy eating plan. im super lazy to eat. It feels like eating is a waste of time. I could be getting this or that done. I wish pills were available so we didn't have to eat no more.

1:08 "britain is facing an obesity crisis, but in the usa things are even worse"
the way this show always ensures to show that america is worse than britain just gets me😂
And if anyone really listened to the stats at the beginning they would see there is little difference in us with obesity.
However we have over three times the population soooo….. I love when people make comparisons but don’t take in that there are huge differences in just about every aspect of each country. I live in Arizona and it’s far too hot to be fat :/ there are some fatter people who stay inside all day and eat in air conditioning however if you are out moving at all you can nearly sweat off 3lbs in a day.
Americans don't know, that the WORLD emulates them - so any fad in US will most definitely be in other countries😊
This whole show is about them complaining how they don’t wanna end up like the us lmao
Why is it the people they show in the US seem to have given up? The guy in this episode had a wife and kids and was only 24, yet he was speaking like he was destined to die and there was nothing he could do about it...
What the hell? Stop eating and start moving bubba
@@chilli-iceolive-abode2447 I really hope they at least gave those people some guidance and referred them to some help.
Nonsense. The supersizers say they don't want to end up that fat but it's the size that worries them, not the American part.

So many people say they were raised that way. I am very lucky, I was not. My mom just said eat as much as your belly can hold. Then stop.
It took me more than 50 years that it's better to waste it than to waist it. When it's just a few bites its not much use using Tupperware

i know Simon is consuming a lot of sugar, but it would be useful if they could give us an idea of the ideal or normal consumption of sugar. Just for perspective.
I agree. It’s recommended that no more than 26 grams of added sugar be in your diet per day.
50 grams of sugar is the recommended daily maximum, although eating less is better
@@kaylee8451 i think your right, but they should be telling us that.
As little as possible

“Full fat cola”
IKR
Wouldn’t it be more scientifically accurate if he called it “Full *sugar* cola”? As gross as Coke is, I will objectively state that I have never had a can or bottle that had chunks of lard floating in it.
In England we call it full fat coke/ cola
Noelle Grace yeah we understand that’s the term for it, we just don’t know why. Like who came up with that 😂

i’m very grateful that the person narrating the show made sure to clarify “type 2 diabetes”. type 1 and type 2 diabetes are very different. as a type one diabetic, i got diabetes from genetics, not weight. but when people found out, they started calling me fat and saying i got it from weight gain. it made me feel useless, and i almost fell into the lifestyle and mindset of an anorexic person. please, make sure people know the difference between the types, or else someone with type one may have to go through the same thing i did. i want to personally thank the narrator for clarifying which type it is, and i’m a little disappointed the doctor didn’t. but overall it was still a fantastic episode
My niece was on insulin at 3 yrs old. Not from genetics but an injury during birth.
If it was genetic, shouldn't it be from birth? Not 2 or 3 years old?

I love how supportive this comment section is

Or any stomach lining.
There was one episode when the guy was 25 or so drank cold are loads of dessert sweet stuff and only had 6 teeth left

“sips cola”
I actually stopped drinking soda over a year ago. I tried a sip of it not long ago and could not drink it. It made my teeth feel horrible and that chemically sweetness. Nope.
@@XSemperIdem5 Can I ask how you manage to stop drinking it? Was it as simple as just stopping or was it a bit hard to do?
Because I really want to give up drinking it & I'm struggling.
🤣

Fresh veg is awesome here. Loads of farmers markets. 🇨🇦
My parents made the same joke when we went on holiday to Florida. At the time they were both morbidly obese but suddenly appeared very slim!
Who else is just skipping through to the good bits
Instead of making me eat my full plate when I was young, my mom would help me not be picky by making me take two “no thank you” bites to try the food, and then she’d always save and reuse the leftovers so there wasn’t food waste.
I LOVE leftovers. It's better than nothing
They are both so genuine and sweet finally an episode where they aren’t just insulting each other

Kelly Parker sometimes genetics play a big role in this and you metabolism of you don’t seem to inherit a fat set of genes it would be easier for you also if you have never been on a diet that actually mess a lot with your metabolism which will result in gaining weight easier and easier and you having to eat less and less each day for the scale to move at all
I think his breakfast would fill me up for the entire day to be honest...
Bruh, the breakfast alone is 1200kcal
Some of his meals seemed pretty reasonable, tbh. I was surprised at the sandwich. It looked like a good, healthy lunch, or at least a regular American balanced lunch... a foot long, what looked like a small serving of chips, and a candy bar. That one seemed pretty regular.
