I stopped it and abandoned the video as soon as I heard the modified lyrics. If they aren't interested in playing with the original lyrics I don't need to hear the song.
Dire Straits are a great British rock band from the 70's-90's. Mark Knopfler is one of the best guitarists around. They have so many hits including "Sultans Of Swing", "Walk Of Life", "Brothers In Arms", "Telegraph Road", "Romeo & Juliet", "Private Investigations", "Twisting By The Pool", "So Far Away" etc. They don't have a bad song.
You got a two-fer! Two the best guitarist ever! Marl Knophler and Eric Clapton! Did you notice that Knophler was finger-picking his electric guitar? That hurts!
Lulu is correct about the high note singing of this song. She refers to 'Sting, from the Police' singing that repeated sentence...Money For Nothing. It's his high pitch voice that is sticking in Lulu's mind. Great Reaction and thank you for not cutting off the guitar solo. 👍
Legendary artist in Mark Knopfler and crew for Dire Straits. You even got Eric Clapton on stage there too. Virtuoso songwriter, performer and guitarist is Mr Knopfler. This gig is from the amazing Knebworth concert in June 1990. Excellent reaction
Finally your doing dire straits , please do sultans of swing from their alchemy tour 83 and telegraph road same event tunnel of love Wembley 85 and brothers in arms from nelson Mandela concert 88
Prefer the BIA era performance from Wembley in 1985, as a few weeks later Is aw them in Birmingham at the NEC, my first ever concert. The Brothers in arms line up was the best too
This performance is something else. You know you are doing something right when you have another superstar playing with you quietly in the background in the pink suit {Eric Clapton}. Thx.
Check out their song "Private Investigations", but the live version from their 1992 concert in Nimes, France. It's amazing and a totally different vibe to Money For Nothing. Mark Knopfler (the lead singer/guitarist) is one of the most recognizable guitarists of all time, a songwriting genius. They turned that concert into a DVD called "On The Night" and I've watched it so many times over the decades! 😅
One of my absolute favourite bands,i even love Mark Knopflers solo albums, eventhough they are alot calmer then the Dire Straits sound. 1:19 Mark defintly doesnt go that high, neither does Sting who sang with them on the studio recording lol. And after shes not even sure if its a song. I love Lulu, shes all over the place and its absolutely hilarious!Keep being yourself,Lulu! I tried to search for someone else with a song called Money For Nothing, but i couldnt find a single song that matched Lulus high pitched voice Dire Straits is always known for dressing sharp,in regards to colours and matching of clothing. We tend to call Mark "the storyteller of rock n roll",as he has a somewhat "talk" type of vocal for the most part, and that he is a brilliant songwriter. 9:33 Ladies and gentlemen, mister Eric Clapton!
This is one of my favourite Dire Straights songs. It was based upon a conversation overheard by one of the band members of some furniture movers who were bemoaning the soft rock stars getting famous on MTV. These little "fa**ots" (the original lyric) were getting money for nothing, and their chicks for free apparently. In fact, I understand that the wording was close to verbatim lol. Another bit of trivia is that originally Sting intoned the "I want my MTV" intro and the latter part of the song. Also, the phrase "I want my MTV" was MTV's catchphrase at the time (1984).
Eric Clapton isn't in the group but he was the other guitarist in the pink suite that you saw at the very beginning. He's a living legend in his own right.
You should react to the original animated video performance when this record was first released. An entirely different rhythm and vocalisations. It’s the best version IMO.
The guitarist in the orange suit is the fabulous Mark Knopfler, of course. But look behind him at the keyboard player in the red shirt. That's Guy Fletcher. He and Mark have been working together since 1985, and they're still collaborating in 2024. One thing they did together was the movie music for "The Princess Bride." Mark played the guitar and Guy did everything else on synthesizer.
That's not how it's sang. This is an odd version. One of the words has been replaced 3 times. It's not "queenie", "mamma", or "trucker". It's probably harder for y'all to recognize the song, since he's singing it differently. Y'all should've watched the video. It's pretty interesting, and you would've heard the singing that comes in, before the guitar starts. Sting sings that little part.
This performance is from Knebworth in 1990 with Eric Clapton in the Pink suite. Next from Dire Straits should be Romeo and Juliet or Walk of Life, witthis band you should always listen to the studio version then the live version.
The story is that Mark Knopfler ( the singer and lead guitarist) was in an appliance store with his wife buying stuff to redo their kitchen when he overheard a few workers talking about an MTV video that was playing the TV's.
Hi, loving your channel and reactions, especially to my fave band. I think you'll really like the song Calling Elvis from "Dire Straits Live-On The Night 1992. It's so epic and has a few little surprises at the end you might freak out.😮. Anyway Cheers All the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸
Okay. Imma say it: Love the channel and content. I do. However, it’s becoming very clear that the current microphone is not enough, sadly. There’s a lot of clipping when all ya’ll talking at once or raise your voices. Hey! It’s cool! It’s not a bad thing at all! It’s not! Please don’t ever do otherwise! Having said that: I highly encourage ya’ll to invest in a higher quality microphone and look into ways to help with sound acoustics within the space ya’ll record. It absolutely will help elevate the channel…which we all want! Love ya’ll! Keep on and keep on and keep on! ❤🙂
@@robertkroberjr.157The song has been edited for radio as long as l can remember. I understand what you are saying, I'm not a fan of editing or changing lyrics to satisfy sensitive markets. This version may have been recommended because the content is more appropriate for Lulu.
Good reaction to a great live performance, Eric Clapton was making a guest performance on guitar, Mark Knofler was the lead player and singer, the whole group are very talented musicians, in my opinion they are one of the best. Thank you 🌹
Sounds a bit flimsy, in context here, but i just love your accents, esp yours, ma. Do'nt know where you're from in the US, but it sounds south of the "Mason Dixie" . I'm from Yorkshire in England, and i love ALL proper regional accents. Btw, ya'v got two of the greatest guitarists to come out of England, there. Did'nt say best , for good reason. (Ya talking WW3) That link line "money for nothing, ya get ya chicks for free" is what he actually heard in a "white goods shop" in Americaa, somewhere.
Pisses me off today's woke society makes bands censor themselves. BTW Sting sung in the intro on the album version of this.this version just makes me shake my head.
Ohh guys. You gotta find the original music video. It was ground breaking for it's time. Always a dissapointment to watch a reaction to a (much later) live performance.
Haha ... I could see right away why this version was picked. It's a censored performance, not what we heard on the radio. :)
Sad when an artist has to change his lyrics to accomodate a 'woke' generation.
I stopped it and abandoned the video as soon as I heard the modified lyrics. If they aren't interested in playing with the original lyrics I don't need to hear the song.

@@jemmajames6719 Look up the lyrics.
Saw them in Toronto in the mid 80s one of the best live performances Ive ever seen right up there with Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Great reaction

+1! Amazing performance! They're one of those bands that almost always sound better live
even Telegraph Road, little more epic on Alchemy live

Yes, it is an older performance, the singer/guitarist is in his 70's now and Dire Straits broke up around 95.
But Mark Knopfler still recorded 9 solo albums after that and only stopped performing in 2019
@@StevenQ74 Didn't say he wasn't performing solo, merely agreeing with the observation that the concert is not recent.
I recommend the MTV video, "Money for Nothing!" 🎸 🎶 🐶 Helps put what they are saying, in better context.
