especially when you consider Pau wrote Black Holes when she was only 13. How a normal, well adjusted teen from a loving family can write a song about addiction with such insight that it makes grown men, those who have been there, bawl unashamedly It's mind boggling . Pau is a treasure.
I literally stumbled across The Warning just last year around Aug/Sep. I had been lamenting that there just weren't any good young rock bands coming up anymore, then suddenly I stumbled across a video of Evolve live at the VMA's. There has not been a day since that I have not listened and/or watched The Warning. I'm 61, almost 62, a through and through fan of punk rock who's favorite band is AC/DC, who was raised on 50's rock & roll and Chicago blues, but I'm here to tell you I can not get enough of these three women. Dany is an amazing front woman and showman, and my gods what a voice, Ale is the epitome of cool and that lady can play a bass like nobody's business, but Pau...Pau is a generational talent. No, I take that back. She transends generations. We haven't seen her like since sometime in the 60's to 80's? So 40 to 60 years since last we saw someone of her...unique genius, talent, vision, personality, heart, (I'll stop now). My grandchildren are very, very young, but I plan on introducing them to The Warning music just as soon as theybare old enough to understand what good music actually means. Well, The Warning and AC/DC.
As one of the 8000 members of the chorus at Pepsi Center that evening, I can say that this trio of songs may be the best live music experience I have had in more than 40 years of concert going. Pau giving us such a gift. We tried our best to finish BREATHE for her. Then 90 seconds later they destroy Enter Sandman. The strings added so much. I am headed back to Mexico in February for four shows. Can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves for the next shows.
The audience definitely got her across the finish line. Being sick and performing at altitude. So many special surprises for the HUGE deserving audience. Stuff that couldn't be pulled off in a normal Live set... one for the history books! 🤘🤩🤘
Amazing performance, Pau is a talent gift. I just saw i discovered this band 9 months ago, it's like 5 years. For the first 3 months I listened to them more than 5 hours a day. It happens when you like every second you hear. Great reaction!
I always say, you can see in this clip why Pau was on Forbes 2024 list of the 100 most powerful women in Mexico. She’ll never go solo, and she’s said so herself, because the composition process and performance really do require all three sisters. But in “Black Holes” and especially “Breathe,” you can see the raw, unrefined Paulina. She had all 8000 members of the audience in the palm of her hand with the first few chords of “Breathe,” and she wouldn’t have needed to go into “Commander Pau” mode to get them to do anything. As for wearing her heart on her sleeve, yes, I’ve always suspected that of the three sisters, Pau is the most openly emotional. Dany gets emotional too, but I think she tries to channel it into her “frontwoman” persona. And Ale has the “cool, mysterious beauty” routine down pretty well; in the 2023 VMAs aftermovie, she claims that she can turn off her anxiety until the time comes to actually do something or be somewhere (and Dany makes a face at her when she says this, because Dany’s nervous enough that her stomach hurts.) Notably, this isn’t when they’re waiting to perform, it’s when they’re preparing to do the red carpet appearance. Also, this is not the only time I’ve seen Pau cry on stage - the other time that comes to mind is during the Teatro Metropolitan performance of “Martirio.” She also bursts into tears in the video where Rudy announces to the band that they’re going to be opening for Muse. Ale makes a goofy face and throws up the horns or something like that, and Dany yells and starts excitedly jumping all over the place, but Pau put her head down in her lap, and when she looks up she’s trying to stop crying. Last note: I don’t know if any other commenter has said it yet (I suspect they have, but I don’t see it): the Gibson Explorer Dany is playing during “Enter Sandman” is the one Lzzy Hale gave her onstage. You can find video of that event, and even fan-cam of the whole concert, if you search UA-cam, and it’s worth it.
The Pol'and'Rock festival just released the entire performance of The Warning at this festival last summer, at which they performed almost the entire new album and it is also glorious.
I have panic/anxiety attacks. Trust me, she's right. That damn song rips my insides out and stomps on them, then throws them back inside me every time I listen to it. And I can't wait to hear it again.
You can't help but get choked up when Pau does her thing. Pure brilliance. Great reaction. If you'd like to see some talent with the keyed version of your Tahlharpa, check out Patty Gurdy covering Bad Habits. She is a singer/songwriter, plays the Hurdy Gurdy and plays music of different genres from folk to pirate metal (with Alestorm) , for a live snip try 'Run' live at WGT2022. or 'Concrete Cages' with Scardust. Disappointment is not an option !
Love your reactions to The Warning VB. As you know, Pau is the main song writer for the band, she has said that she composes mainly on the piano, and when she doesn´t have access to one, she takes out her cell phone and opens up a piano keyboard app she has on it, so she doesn´t forget any idea for a song she´s having at that moment. They are all amazing, but Pau is special, she can make you cry one moment and then go back to being the pint sized nuclear bomb she is on the drums and get your blood pumping again.
When the audience is engaged with the band they get involved to such an extent that at times when required the audience present can support their band.
Exactly right. Pau wrote ‘Breathe’ for Pau. Never intended to be public. Therapy thru music just as you said. When another song was needed for ERROR she offered it on the condition she’d never play it live (didn’t even play it in the studio. It was recorded at home). But it’s very beloved by the fans & this was an amazing gift from Pau to us.
@@thevikingbuddha thank you very much! I wonderful Reaction for a. Wonderful Konzert! I’m sitting, here with Tears, my ice! I wish you a. Happy new year greetings from Hamburg! Ben❤
You are really going to enjoy seeing them live. They are an OUTSTANDING live band. As good as these live videos are, seeing them in person is even better. Guaranteed!
I'm a simple man, i see The Warning, reaction, Live... i click play and Like! While it's not critical, it bears noting that Dany has the entire string section return to the stage to take a bow after ES.
Great reaction. I’m glad you are feeling better. Dany has her own special song that should be coming up, it’s called When I’m alone, she wrote it when they were at Berkeley college of music for a summer course and she was homesick.
"Black Holes (Don’t Hold On)" is all about the struggles of addiction and the heavy toll it takes. Pau wrote the song when she was just 13, and she’s mentioned that while people interpret it in different ways, for her, it’s about the battle with addiction. The string ensemble was a special addition for the Pepsi Center performance-this isn’t how they usually play the song live. It made the performance even more powerful, adding extra emotional depth to it. "Breathe" is a really personal one for Pau. She agreed to include it on ERROR under the condition that she wouldn’t have to play it live. But at the Pepsi Center, Pau decided to perform it anyway. Given how personal the song is, this might be the only time Pau ever plays "Breathe" live, so it made the performance even more meaningful for everyone there. "Enter Sandman" is part of The Metallica Blacklist, a tribute album where various artists put their spin on Metallica’s Black Album. The Warning’s version keeps the intensity of the original but adds their own unique flavor. At the Pepsi Center, they performed it with strings, which was a cool twist to the usual performance. The track also features Alessia Cara, and while her vocals are on the studio version, when The Warning plays it live, she’s still part of the song on the backing track, especially during the "woah, whoa" sections. Overall, the Pepsi Center performances of "Black Holes", "Breathe", and "Enter Sandman" were memorable because they brought something new to the table with the strings and raw emotion, showing how The Warning can give their songs a completely fresh live experience.
Don’t worry, there’s plenty of other versions of Sandman😊. The kids version, the OMV for their reimagined version, and their live @Metropolitan Theater version as well

If you go back to react to their 2014 cover of Enter Sandman, you could pair that with the official music video for The Metallica Blacklist version with Alessia Cara. You could also check out the live performance of their version from 2022 at Teatro Metropolitan to see how it sounds live without the string ensemble. There are a fair number of differences between the studio version and how they do it live.
If you go back to live performances from their first two albums you will see all 3 play piano live. And if you go to their channel and go back 11-12 years you will see them all play piano as munchkins.
Enter Sandman has a whole heap of history with The Warning now. Of course it starts with their viral 2014 cover as very young kids. But then in 2021 they landed an official cover on Metallica's Blacklist album, in collaboration with vocalist Alessia Cara. That version got a music video. Then, there's a live version from Teatro Metropolitan 2022, and finally the 2023 Pepsi Center version you see here (which I lovingly deem 'Symphony and The Warning'). So there's really four different takes on the same song from this band.
@@thevikingbuddha There's technically a 5th version, fan cam video only, a live performance in LA where Alessia Cara joined them on stage for the first and only time.
Breathe was not on the setlist. At least no one expected Pau to play the song live. Otherwise the song is played as a half-time filler from the tape while the girls change clothes and take a break. It might have been a surprise for the audience, but she was practicing the song earlier in the day while walking with her sisters, so I think it was discussed and somewhat planned beforehand.
Pau has described Breathe as a panic attack set to music. We don't know what inspired her to write this song but we do know that it is intensely personal for her. So much so that when the label asked for one more song for the Error album she provided the song Breathe on the condition that they would never perform it live. It was recorded at home on their slightly out of tune piano and was minimally mixed for the album.

Also you must try You Oughta Know!! Cover SiriusXm (Alanis Morissette) where Dany Shines. Hope to see you in April

IMHO "Enter Sandman" Teatro Metropolitan version is definetely better than this. Strings in fact mess with flow and make it less "aggresive" in the end.
I agree. The strings are cool but they drown out the guitars and change the vibe of the song too much. I definitely prefer the Teatro Metropolitan version the most.
They are both good in their own way and it is very hard for me to choose. I don't want enyone to miss the Metropolitan version though; it is really good!

I agree. The strings are cool but they drown out the guitars and change the vibe of the song too much. I definitely prefer the Teatro Metropolitan version the most.
Agreed
They are both good in their own way and it is very hard for me to choose. I don't want enyone to miss the Metropolitan version though; it is really good!
Agree, don't get me wrong i love an orchestra but it does nothing for this version. Teatro Metropolitan version is far better IMHO
