"Narcisista" is The Warning's sharp and witty clapback at the criticism they’ve faced, especially being called "malinchistas" for primarily writing songs in English. (Malinchista is a Mexican term that accuses someone of betraying their culture, like being unpatriotic or favoring foreign influence.) Released as their first song in Spanish and a stand-alone single in 2019, the song doesn’t just address the critics-it roasts them. It’s sarcastic, unapologetic, and full of attitude, poking fun at the hypocrisy of people who judge loudly but don’t live up to their own supposed standards. Through biting lyrics, the band laughs at the insults and labels thrown at them, turning the negativity into entertainment. The repeated "na, na, na" acts like a verbal shrug, showing they couldn’t care less about trying to please everyone. At its core, "Narcisista" is about standing your ground, staying authentic, and refusing to let others define who you are. It’s a playful yet pointed reminder to rise above the noise and do your thing-no apologies.
@@oojamap And the original live debut of the song is sooooo full of that attitude! It is one of my favorite performances of this song!! (Narcisista - Foro Didi)
It's a very loud Fuck You in language their mother found acceptable. Mom has been the arbiter of taste for the band. Profanity was not used until the Keep Me Fed album. Mom relented because the band challenged her to come up with something better and she could not. So the word stayed.
Ale can (and does) play both pick and fingers on her bass. In fact in some songs she does both!! She is a super talented bassist as I'm sure you can tell having played the instrument!
Generational talents. Pau is an award-winning drummer, Ale is a world class jazz bassist/signature artist with Spector and Dany is no Zakk Wylde, but she can definitely shred as we've seen way back when she was just 14, shredding out Kirk Hammett's solo on Enter Sandman. They tend to structure their songs more in the way that KORN does, where a solo isn't necessary. KORN has been around for almost 30 years and neither Monkey or Head have ever had a solo - doesn't mean they can't. It's just the way they structure their songs. When Dany does have a solo moment, it's always tasty, not over done and fits within the sound of the song perfectly as we saw here.
@@wchaza67 exactly. I’ve said a few times that her solos suited the songs but weren’t a “show off shred”, and people respond with “she can shred”. I don’t think a solo needs to shred to be good. I think these girls are incredibly talented.
That said, I’d recommend “Z” from the Pepsi Centre. Also, Dany sings while doing licks and Riffs, playing different notes on guitar to what she is singing, believe me this is hard! If you look at the old greats Mark K, SRV, JH to name a few. They do more a “Call and Answer” approach to singing while playing. - Sing a line, then play/shred a line.
@@paulmurtagh9823 Agreed! Z is a nice little shred, and yeah, strumming and singing is one thing. Playing the riffs that she does while singing is next level. Again - generational talent, for sure!
In a nut shell Narcisista is a response in the form of a big middle finger to their Mexican critics who were bad mouthing them for singing only in English. They wrote it in Spanish so the haters would get the message. I went to subscribe and realized I already had. 🤷♂️
The hand gestures go with the lyrics. Their first song in Spanish was a clap back to those in the Mexican music press criticizing them for singing in English. The first(?) time they played it was at Foro Didi and they had the lyrics on the screen behind them. Pau also showed more anger and attitude. It's worth a watch even though the sound isn't as good as this one. ua-cam.com/video/O7IAEhN4RMM/v-deo.htmlsi=KucaChApkdlSaeo7
Greetings from Denmark. Ale, the bass player and harmony master is playing both with pick and without - she does prefer to play without pick, like Pau (the drummer and sometime lead vocalist) prefer to play without shoes, but will be prefertly fine with high hails shoes on.
Yes, in fact she plays both ways on the song Error. Checkout the live version of Error at the Pepsi Center and you'll see her switch to a pick a bit after the 1:30 mark of the song.
Hello from another Dane. Ale has indeed said that she prefers to fingerpick - but also that, oddly enough, she finds that she is more precise with a pick (and, her being Ale, "more precise" is a mad level of precision 😳😂)
Pau is an award-winning drummer. She practices singing while running on a treadmill so that her physical exertions are more controlled and not reflected in her vocals. She has been singing while playing since she started playing drums at around age 5 or 6. Pau is also the primary lyricist and usually the initiator of their original compositions, though all three have written complete songs. They usually collaborate on their compositions. Dany is in fact a total guitar nerd. I don't think she demonstrates her full capabilities. And yes, as a rule, the band members' parts of every song are suited to enhance the song, not necessarily to showcase their individual prowess. Each one is a world-class musician who plays piano as well. Ale and Dany can also play saxophone.
I am in The Warning Army and like and subscribe anyone who is willing to react to them more than once! Ale(Ah-lay) the bassist, used to pluck exclusively! Now she picks or plucks depending on what the song needs, she also switches between both on a few of their songs. Usually changes between verse and chorus!!!😊🎶⚡️
All what these three ladies do first and foremost serves the song. That and that they're equal thirds of the band are the two fundamental principles of The Warning and their music. Ale on the bass fingerpicks and plays with a pick, again depending on the song. There are songs where she shifts between the two modes.
I don't like the Enter Sandman cover from this concert. For me, the orchestra gets in the way and it's too busy. Have you seen their cover of You Oughta Know? Freakin' awesome. Great vocal and bass playing.
I saw that your playlist doesn't have "23" and "Dust to dust", two songs sung entirely by Pau (the drummer). I recommend you to watch them both at the concert at the Pepsi Center cdmx 2023, you won't regret it! Actually that whole concert is absolutely fantastic...
Indeed it is. Due to Pau being somewhat under the weather at the Pepsi Center, her singing is actually even better at the Teatro Metropolitan concert. But then, of course, there is Dany's new beuatiful extended intro for the Pepsi Center version. Hard choices 🤷♂
