I met Steve blass about ten years ago as I wandered around a Bradenton Florida flea market. Blass was Pittsburgh’s color man in the booth. He was very cordial and warm. What a pitcher and what a gentleman!
How cool! Running into sports celebrities is very high on the bro scale in my book. I was a teen ball player during this run of the Pirates...they were my favorite team behind my in state Detroit Tigers.
@@chrismiller1183 I saw Blass standing alone and recognized him but couldn’t remember his name. I had to ask him!! Haha! Embarrassing but a thrill nonetheless.
Baltimore had four 20 game winners on that 71 staff but it was Blass who was outstanding as well as Nelson Briles with a brilliant two hit shutout in game five.
@@stevea6816 absolutely. Stargell did not hit much in that series. Clemente hit and hit hard. Bob Robertson also contributed two Homer's including a three run opposite field Homer on a missed bunt sign which pretty much closed out game 3.
I am 63 years old now and when I was living in Baltimore as a child and teenager,I was a junior Oriole and I took a picture with Mike Cuellar on picture day as a junior orioles.
It's amazing how quickly the pitchers worked backed then. They get the ball from the catcher and 2 seconds later they are starting their wind up. Not like today's pitchers who take 1 or 2 minutes in between pitches.
Danny Murtaugh managed 6 years in the major leagues when they had the divisional format, and won four divisions, a pennant, and a World Series. But because he broke the Cardinal Rule and beat the Yankees in the World Series he's not in the Hall of Fame where he should be.
Baseball has changed so much for 5he worse.since Manfred. Selig was bad w interleague but now, its trashed. The game is not relaxing anymore. Its rushed, and not interesting w a stuoid clock, limited pick.offs. Nl al overlap, ...dumb sudden death crap xtra innings. But worst, theSinful painted on the field, and support for liberal polotical groups. Cannot go in good conscince to games anymore.
I can’t watch an inning of todays game..refuse to do so..MLB is total shit a bunch of pampered with no ball’s don’t want to get hurt A-Ballers, Beer Leaguers, run by assholes who never played the game in their lives..its comical now haven’t watch a game since 2010 when it already went to shit that’s why we are here..when men were men MLB was MLB 👌⚾️
I agree with you I love baseball but I only want to watch the vintage stuff. Which is why I appreciate your uploads so much. I've been binge watching all I can!@@pheniafilmsthemlbarchiveso9229

Blass was incredible. He would repeat it again in game seven. Steve Blass was a world series hero.

and Clemente, who was his usual brilliant self. @@frankmaiorana66

He should have been voted World
Series co-MVP with Clemente.
@stevea6816 Clemente was an incredibly gifted athlete and as
sound a baseball player as you were going to find.
The 70s was the Pirates best decade, 6 divisional titles, 2 pennants and 2 W/S Champs.
I was at that game with my dad and brother. I was 11. Great memory.

This is just awesome! Thank you for posting and showing the real game!! also professional TV coverage.
Robertson was told to bunt when he hit his homer. World Series legend!
Bob Prince (PBP) & Curt Gowdy (C) 2nd half
Tony Kubek (field reporter)
OMG - Hank Azaria's "Brockmire" sounds exactly like Bob Prince
The Gunner!
Roberto Clemente 🇵🇷 ⚾ MLB is The Greatest player even with the Pittsburgh Pirates No 21 Immortal Legend Hero
Back when players played because they loved the game, Clemente was a great athlete and played the game the right way.
No, they got paid back then. Nobody played for free.
Interesting to see 3 Rivers with a full dirt infield!
Must have been interesting how they moved for Steeler games.
Dont think I've ever heard after all these years why NBC didn't want Prince to use his customary home run call.
Nice bunt, Hoss.

Jose Pagan was instrumental in 2 of the Pirate wins. Never hear much about him, of course Roberto stole the show
I never forgot #11
It would be nice but didn't happen is if the Cubs was in the world series Jack Brick house calling the shots with Curt Gowdy.
Bob Prince was the Voice Of The Pirates.
