I like Diana,Mary and Cindy!!! They 're cute here. But Diana,Mary and Flo were my first Barbie Dolls!!!! I was a little girl and loved them!!! They were so beautiful!! Smile!!!
This version of Keep Me Hangin' On brought the house down. WOW! Plus they're more relaxed and free here. You can almost track the changes in society during the 60's through the performances of the Supremes. This performance could only happen in the late 60's, not before.
The best girl group of all time ! True class ! Noone could ever top them ! Wonderful Diana Ross ! Mary Wilson ! Cindy Birdsong ! Great tv special back in the day ! Remember it well !! I still have the album !!!!
@smashingtimemod You are right. Mary is considered one of the most beautiful women of her generation. She was a doll. I remember when I saw them in Chicago at the Opera House in 1968, I was sitting on the second row front and I kept thinking: "Wow, the one on the right is a dynamo but too skinny; the one on left is sooo cute but kind of big; the one in the middle is perfection, face, body and personality. (I was 10 years old and didn't know their names)
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! This aired six years before I was born, but I wish i could have watched it when it originally aired in 1968. The girls were fabulous in this special.
Love watching the clips from the late sixties. Mary always looks like she is having the time of her life She looks absolutely stunning in this video. At 69 she still looks stunning
Fabulous performance! There's one thing that always kinda confused me, that was Diana's insistence on smiling no matter what she was singing. "Stop! In the Name of Love" is such a sad song, but she's just smiling away. :) Still all three sound amazing. I must admit, I absolutely LOVE how Diana is interrupted by huge applause for Mary and Cindy. :) I don't mind the hiccup thing, I think it suits her.
The Supremes are and remain, at least in memory, the very best. I agree, it would be great to have them together again...but if not, get this on DVD!!!
Pure. Perfect. Classic. Oh-oh..And now my wife's looking over my shoulder and said, "I want one of those dresses"......sorry..........gotta go hide the credit card....more later.
Plus, the arrangements here were very 1968. They have a sort of then-popular Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass arrangement sound on this special. Love it, too.
I agree with all the comments here. Mary was right at her peak during this appearance. Wow. Just something. Mary knew her role with the group; and she managed herself with Barry Gordy and Diana. As such, she enjoyed a long and financially successful career. Smart.
On this day in 1965 {February 24th} the Supremes performed "Stop! In The Name of Love" on the ABC-TV program 'Shindig!'... Four days earlier on February 20th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on March 27th it peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100... On the same 'Shindig!' show Freddy & the Dreamers sang "I'm Telling you Now", and it was the record that succeeded "Stop!" at #1... R.I.P. Jimmy McNeill {Shindig's host, 1940 - 2013}...
AWESOME! MAGICAL! American pop never had and will never have anything close to The Supremes. Look at them closely here. That's why they live on after so many decades...
have never seen either TCB or the On Broadway tv specials Diana did with the Supremes & the Temptations. with all the crap Motown has put out on dvd W-H-Y have none of Diana's tv specials been released yet? especially the 90min.special An Evening With Diana Ross on NBC? oh well. thank gawd for UA-cam, right?
You're right. She does it alot. It's her way of sounding 'cutesy wootsey' if you will. In the early days, there were 'adults' around to keep her from doing that and also other annoing things like bugging out her eyes. Later on, she was given more freedom to pretty much do what she wanted. I still like her and the girls anyway!
@LeilaniHelepololei Now that you guys mention it. I remember seeing The Supremes at the Opera House in Chicago and from the time they came out singing I noticed that "hiccup" thing on the lead singer. I couldn't figure out what the hell she was doing but it was great. Later on in the show I "discovered" Mary. I had never seen such a beautiful body, face and stage presence. I was 12 at the time and came out of that theater totally in love.
i think on all these TCB clips you can really hear Diana's voice! she really can sing i think, i mean i know she can sing, but her voice hs a really qood quality i think in these clips.and great showman ship, too!
It's interesting that you mention it. Comparing this live version of STOP! and the version from the 1965 Copa performance, it has a much higher energy. It really gets the audience going when they break out with that driving rhythm. This version of Keep Me Hanging On is very similar to the one from the London show. Very high-energy. It's different from the record and I think it needs to be. The record version is the hit maker chart topper, the live version is for the audience.
I love this. I remember this. Do you have the beginning where they sing the title song "T.C.B" if you do can you post it, plus, where did you get this would love a copy. One of the greatest female groups. They had it all especially for the era. Remember black women were not on the map for beauty and glamour, the Supremes proved they 'black women" could do it. Thanks for the post.
@LeilaniHelepololei That hiccup sound is somewhat annoying but seemed to work for her back then. Martha Reeves was so much better of a singer but the Supremes were supreme and fabulous anyway.. They are glamorous and beautiful as well.
shes not gasping for air, its obvious she is doing it on purpose.. just a little cute thing she does with her voice.. sorry singing coach lady.. im sure you have alot of great knowledge, but i think you may be wrong about this one.. Peace
MARY WILSON LOOKS FANTASTIC HERE
Those dresses are still bangin!
If you were there watching them ,i don't see how anyone could take their eyes off Mary Wilson she is beautiful !
I like Diana,Mary and Cindy!!! They 're cute here. But Diana,Mary and Flo were my first Barbie Dolls!!!! I was a little girl and loved them!!! They were so beautiful!! Smile!!!
"Our business is singing and tonight we're gonna take care of business."
- Diana Ross
Mary Wilson is such an incredible cutie!!!
Wow those Michael Travis designed gowns were some of the hottest stagewear they ever wore.
This version of Keep Me Hangin' On brought the house down. WOW!
Plus they're more relaxed and free here. You can almost track the changes in society during the 60's through the performances of the Supremes. This performance could only happen in the late 60's, not before.

Super STAR Diana... she stole it every damn time... and has for fifty years...
What a super DIVA STAR ***

notice the ROAR of approval for STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE! a true classic song!
Classic !! Diana Ross ! Mary Wilson ! Cindy Birdsong ! They were the best ! TCB was a great tv special ! I have the album !
When ever Diana sang live back then her voice wOuld do a little squeak in between breaths
what a classic...what good music that was...meaningful and to the heart

Diana Ross is so amazingly bad ass! That "there ain't nothing I can do about it" was on point. Amazing group.
I agree with all the comments here. Mary was right at her peak during this appearance. Wow. Just something. Mary knew her role with the group; and she managed herself with Barry Gordy and Diana. As such, she enjoyed a long and financially successful career. Smart.
Mary looks great!!
Excellent performance. See the moves of the girls, so exciting and of natural simulteneity, these are real musicians. Who could achieve this today?
Check out Diana's foot at 3:42.:) Every move punctuating the music. Pure showmanship
Great music & performances. I love up-tempo live versions of their classic material.
Thanks for posting.

3:20 is sooooo cute!!!! Luv this!!!!
If I get around to it, I will post the show intro with both groups singing 'TCB', the Supremes segment, and their Temptations introduction.

@LeilaniHelepololei I guess now we know where Michael Jackson got it from LOL
Was this special produced for the tenth anniversary of Motown?
@LeilaniHelepololei Yea she obviously taught Michael that one as well!!! lol
@LeilaniHelepololei lol she do
@0:14 They cut loose....get it supremes
MARY WILSON STEALS THE SHOW!!!!!!
shes not gasping for air, its obvious she is doing it on purpose.. just a little cute thing she does with her voice.. sorry singing coach lady.. im sure you have alot of great knowledge, but i think you may be wrong about this one.. Peace
Diana looks dangerously thin here. I'm glad she started gaining weight in the 70's for her health's sake.
Florence already gone!
@LeilaniHelepololei couldnt she take something for those hiccups?
Diana seems to use the hiccup technique LOL.. too much in this video
@usspike dummy me,,,I thought she actually had the hiccups
