DIY Alice in Wonderland cotton ornaments/ Part 2: the White Rabbit and The Blue Caterpillar

- Hi everyone, today I"ll show you how I've made two more cotton ornaments for my Alice in Wonderland collection.

Here I'm using cotton in roll, this one is very common in Russia, sold at every pharmacy, but it's not as common in the US, so best is to order it online if you want to DIY such ornaments. Here are some links for buying this kind of cotton on Amazon (maybe you also have this kind of cotton at pharmacies, I"m just not sure about this):

You will also need white glue, you can use school white glue, but you will need quite a lot, so better if you have a big jar of it. If your glue is too sticky and difficult to work with, just thin it with water a little.

I can't help it be disappointed that you don't have more viewers! I'm going to keep sharing and I hope all of your subscribers do because you are something to see! The work you do is excellent but I don't think it is difficult it just takes practice and patience. The description of what you're doing is so well told I think anyone should try it if they're interested and creating crafts of real substance

I am so glad you used the classic John Tenniel illustrations as inspiration. They are so much more interesting and elegant than other iterations of the Alice characters. This whole series of hand-crafted ornaments is just magical.

Irina I try cotton but, I just can’t do it , do you think that if I use air dry SCulpy will work the same the other Christmas ornaments came out real nice not as beautiful as yours . But they are ok😄😄
Hi, I think you are to try lightweight air dry clay for that, like Hearty. I used to make Xmas ornaments out of polymer clay, and they come out quite heavy(
Ok so I’m working on an ornament made of cotton finally. How do you keep the cotton from sticking to your hands while you handle it? I have been blow drying in between and it helps a little but I’m struggling with this and it takes me a few days just to finish the basic base
Hi, probably your white glue is too sticky, try to thin it with water a little. I also get sticky fingers while working, but not much (since I mostly work with a brush)
I also use a brush but my fingers get sticky from holding the ornament I do water down my glue a bit
@@yaderincrimin2973 yeah, then it's glue.. Try this: put an egg white into a separate bowl and moisten your fingers when you're holding the ornament or doing something with your fingers. Then you will not stick to cotton) and don't worry about how they would store, this is a very old tecnique from last century, people used egg white instead of glue then. I used egg white a couple years ago when smoothing the surface of two ornaments - they keep great, no smell or anything, so definitely worth trying. Some artists also use cornstarch homemade glue for these ornaments, it is not sticky at all. I haven't tried this, but can find the recipe for you, it's just cornstarch and water, nothing special)
@@IrenesDIY oh interesting on the cornstarch glue, I’ll have to try and find that recipe. I will try the egg white and see if that helps! I’m working of the details now so I think that will be helpful. Will the egg white work as a glue? Could I attach the details with it or should I still use glue? I have a colar, shirt border, cuffs and hair left
@IrenesDIY when I was a child my grandmother would do crafts with me. If she didn't have white glue she would use egg white. I still have some things we made that was glued with it. I don't know if it would be less sticky, but wouldn't Mod Podge work too?
