This brings back a lot of memories for me. Those wedge late models were huge back then. But seeing Swartz, Purvis, Moran and the old Flintstone Flyer makes me miss those days.

Loved this era. So much great racing we watched at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock Ga. Still a huge fan of dirt racing and Super Lap Models. Fondly remembering the late Mike Swims and a bygone era.

THIS IS AMAZING!!!!...I was 8 or 9 and still remember my dad telling me "Watch the triple nickle!" or 'The Flintstone flyer" But MOST of ALL the MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND TOM USRY!!!!!!!!!! Why is he not spoken about anymore? He deserves so much attention. From Dirt to Asphalt..He was one of the most awesome people to grace Fayetteville speedway..Sorry, at that time- "The New Fayetteville speedway"...From his wild ride in Arca@ Daytone(Check that out),Flipping end over end to racing late models against Bobby Labonte and Dennis Setzer at Caraway this man was The definition of the working mans racecar driver.....Someone should do a story on his Career...

I loved the wedge cars. We ran late model from 82ta92 with 3 track Championships and many features. These cars were insane fast I loved working on them Charlie Swartz and CJ Rayburn had some fast ass rides at Eldora.🤙🇺🇸🇺🇸🏁🤙👍

Both of the mid-engined Bullitt cars (Ray Callahan) were in the race. The 21 in the first wreck was the sister car to Charlie’s. That was Jim Hunt, kin to J.W. Hunt who was a longtime sponsor on Charlie and Jack Hewitt’s rides. Edit: Correction, it’s Loy Allen.

I think this was the 1985 race. Wedges were illegal in most sanctioning bodies (except to ASCoC) and a few tracks. I need to look up who won, because it looks like Boggs was passing Simmons as the video cut out.

Boggs got around Bucky, but he never would have if it wasn’t for lap traffic. When his heart was in it, they was none better than Bucky.

It was featured on the cover of stock car racing magazine and most racing sanctioning bodies with a quickness outlawed It as if the wedge bodies were over the top this takes it to a different level and it was beginning that most fans couldn't identify with the cars they were watching and then came a set of rules that brought in the so called stock body measurements gotta admit it was off the hook for a minute 😀

Aerodynamics plus the body sheet metal was easier to replace or straighten out ( flat panels ). Alot of beating and banging going on out there. Most of the drivers and crew worked full time jobs and had limited time to prepare their cars and travel to race on the weekends.
