My worst travel experience was flying from London to Los Angeles, and falling sick the day I arrived in L.A, and feeling so ill, I decided to fly back to London again to recover. I was really really ill, so wanted to be in familiar surroundings. Obviously.... I survived.
On a tourist VISA you should be able to extend it at any immigration office.... the meaning of being a tourist is to travel around.....! You should talk with head of immigration now that you are back in BKK so you do not have to travel back to ChiangMai again in 2 months.....

Being a Thai, I find it very strange that Bangkok immigration sent you back to Chiangmai, since the Bangkok immigration has authority over all provincial immigration offices. This is totally ridiculous, next time let me know perhaps I could be of assistance!

We really preserve our history, our bureaucracy remains the same since 1900s. I hired a Myanmar girl to be our daughter nanny and experience pretty much the same nightmare. We had to prepare a lot of papers and hope that we have everything for her visa and work permit. But instead got rejected for 3 times until we finally got it done. I can feel your pain.

This might make you feel wee bit better! I visited my mum in Bangkok, time to say goodbye to fly back home to work in the UK. The morning of arriving back, I had a phone call to say my mum had passed away. So immediately booked a flight back to Thailand within 24 hours! You never know what's round the corner!

I just found your channel. I live part of every year in Thailand. I realize immigration can be a challenge. I think you need to focus on the positive. This is a setback but not too serious. Enjoy the rest of your time in Thailand. We will be arriving in Thailand for the winter in 2 weeks.
Can you please explain fully about your visa, I am on stv which gives me 90 days followed by 2 extensions of 90 days. If you have been there for 9 month's how was that possible, also if you extend every 2 months then 9 months doesn't add up. I am asking because when my 2nd extension expires I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE and maybe your experience will help me. Keep up the great vlogs and keep 😀🙏
Thank you! Yes we are on a TR visa so it is different, we are able to extend every 60 days. Maybe our mistake was doing it in a different province. As far as we know STV can be done anywhere so you will be fine 🤗❤️make sure you check where it possible to extend with correct documents in case we are wrong xx
Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I know in Thailand, often logic doesn’t prevail. It’s very helpful to have a Thai friend or two. It can really open doors for you as well as get you cheaper Tuk-tuk and taxi rides. Have you had similar problems with getting a Thai bank account?
Yes we did try to contact a friend and agent in CM who also thought it was strange, she mentioned the rules may be different in certain big provinces like BKK🙈We are so happy to have it sorted and continue our travels ❤️

One positive thing: You are in an age where air travelling in Thailand is convenient enough to allow you to travel back and forth quickly between Bangkok and Chiangmai. Many years ago when low cost airlines were not available, this could not be done. And, good thing it is Chiangmai, because it is a province with an airport as Thailand does not have airports in all of its provinces, and it is busy enough to have flights to Bangkok all day. Otherwise, you guys would have to find a place to stay overnight in CM. So, in the misfortune, you guys still have good lucks. So, think positive. Question: Why could you not extend your visa in Bangkok? Is it because you guys entered into Thailand through Chiangmai? Did the immigration give you any reasons?
Absolutely right, we are so grateful we were able to go back and forth i the space of a day pretty much! We tried our best to get some information or reasons! The best we got was it was not their jurisdiction, maybe each province is different. However we assumed it was possible to extend in any province, so that is why we tried in Bangkok🙈
What many call a bad day is really a high effort day and the realization of, no, the education of our egos that we control only ourselves and do not run the rest of the universe.

Wanted to fly from pucket to bankok for our flight in the evening.turned out mistake in the tickets were for ten pm in the evening instead of 10 in the morning bought new tickets and flew to Bangkok only to find our flight had been CANCELED, payed whatever for a hotel at 10 aclock at night. As we had a full day to our flight went to Pratunam to spend the day. Had my Wallet stolen and was fined 2000 baht for smoking! Went to book out of hotel and was charged 500 baht for missing key card that was in my wallet. A very memorable holiday!

As i am Thai. We sorry for your inconvenience about Thailand bureaucracy process. This is the upset thing that we have to improve. Hopefully you still enjoy with the others part of our country. Sorry for everything that still not good enough.
We have the same situation last year. My husband and i visited Vietnam then we flew to Siem Reip and supposed to come back to Vietnam before coming back to Australia. I didnt realise that our Visa for Vietnam is only one way not multi visit. Also before Covid you can apply a visa in the airport. So by the time we arrived Cambodia i processed our Visa online. We're hoping that it will arrived within 5 days, but it didn't. Our last day we bought a flight from Siem Reip to Singapore by Singapore Airlines and it wasn't cheap. Things like this is very frustrating but a very expensive lesson to learn😢
You can see Thai people are super kind even it was the official regulation that all travelers have to extend their visa at the arrival points, they would still say apology for not convenient. I’m so proud of being Thai 😁. You were lucky that it was Chiangmai, so many flights available from early morning until night. Anyway it was experience, wish you still enjoy to explore more. I find it strange that Bangkok Immigration sent you back to Chiangmai as recommendation, but we never know what is the main reason behind it. Still Good that you still have you extended visa. Keep safe.
I had the same thing happen to me. Decided to go to Hua Hin from Ching Mai...just before my visa was to expire. Chiang Mai immigration says cant do it here have to do it in Hua hin...because different province ( that's Thailand for you) travel to Hua hin, day after have new papers from new condo...go to Hua Hin immigration...but wait wait the Condo is in Cha-am...so that's in Phetchaburi...45 minute scooter ride later in Phetchaburi immigration...but some papers from new condo owner missing...so ended up having to come back to next day pay a fin for overstaying my visa by 1 day....lol. Got to love Thailand.

I had to do the exact same thing, for the same reason, but worse, about 11 months ago. We moved from Hua Hin to Phuket, and 8 days after driving down to Phuket (9+ hours) Phuket Immigration told me I could not extend my visa in Phuket and had to do it back in Hua Hin. So I drove all the way back at midnight (there are no flights to Hua Hin), extended my visa at 9:00 AM, and drove back to Phuket immediately. I was absolutely exhausted. Now I am worried the same thing will happen next week. 😬😫
I’m a musician, four years ago I flew from Bangkok to Chiangmai at noon and show at Jazz festival done at midnight, get some sleep and then 5 am. go to airport for the first flight to Hatyai in the south for next concert at 2 pm. and 9 pm. took a bus to Krabi arrived at 2 am. for travel there 3 days with my wife and fly back to Bangkok. Hahaha I mean I’m sick for travel for a while.
It is not our first, it was just unexpected as we had not planned to return to chiang mai after leaving just 2 days before. we were planning to stay in Bangkok for a month but had to leave after just arriving.
It's worth it to sign up with a visa assist place here; they will contact you far ahead of time to remind you that you need to do something, they would also explain any details you might not know (like what just happened,) they'll go to immigration and do a lot of the hassle for you.

I just found your channel. I live part of every year in Thailand. I realize immigration can be a challenge. I think you need to focus on the positive. This is a setback but not too serious. Enjoy the rest of your time in Thailand. We will be arriving in Thailand for the winter in 2 weeks.

Can you please explain fully about your visa, I am on stv which gives me 90 days followed by 2 extensions of 90 days. If you have been there for 9 month's how was that possible, also if you extend every 2 months then 9 months doesn't add up. I am asking because when my 2nd extension expires I DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE and maybe your experience will help me.

Thank you! Yes we are on a TR visa so it is different, we are able to extend every 60 days. Maybe our mistake was doing it in a different province. As far as we know STV can be done anywhere so you will be fine 🤗❤️make sure you check where it possible to extend with correct documents in case we are wrong xx

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I know in Thailand, often logic doesn’t prevail. It’s very helpful to have a Thai friend or two. It can really open doors for you as well as get you cheaper Tuk-tuk and taxi rides. Have you had similar problems with getting a Thai bank account?
Yes we did try to contact a friend and agent in CM who also thought it was strange, she mentioned the rules may be different in certain big provinces like BKK🙈We are so happy to have it sorted and continue our travels ❤️

One positive thing: You are in an age where air travelling in Thailand is convenient enough to allow you to travel back and forth quickly between Bangkok and Chiangmai. Many years ago when low cost airlines were not available, this could not be done. And, good thing it is Chiangmai, because it is a province with an airport as Thailand does not have airports in all of its provinces, and it is busy enough to have flights to Bangkok all day. Otherwise, you guys would have to find a place to stay overnight in CM. So, in the misfortune, you guys still have good lucks. So, think positive. Question: Why could you not extend your visa in Bangkok? Is it because you guys entered into Thailand through Chiangmai? Did the immigration give you any reasons?
Absolutely right, we are so grateful we were able to go back and forth i the space of a day pretty much! We tried our best to get some information or reasons! The best we got was it was not their jurisdiction, maybe each province is different. However we assumed it was possible to extend in any province, so that is why we tried in Bangkok🙈
What many call a bad day is really a high effort day and the realization of, no, the education of our egos that we control only ourselves and do not run the rest of the universe.

Wanted to fly from pucket to bankok for our flight in the evening.turned out mistake in the tickets were for ten pm in the evening instead of 10 in the morning bought new tickets and flew to Bangkok only to find our flight had been CANCELED, payed whatever for a hotel at 10 aclock at night. As we had a full day to our flight went to Pratunam to spend the day. Had my Wallet stolen and was fined 2000 baht for smoking! Went to book out of hotel and was charged 500 baht for missing key card that was in my wallet. A very memorable holiday!

We have the same situation last year. My husband and i visited Vietnam then we flew to Siem Reip and supposed to come back to Vietnam before coming back to Australia. I didnt realise that our Visa for Vietnam is only one way not multi visit. Also before Covid you can apply a visa in the airport. So by the time we arrived Cambodia i processed our Visa online. We're hoping that it will arrived within 5 days, but it didn't. Our last day we bought a flight from Siem Reip to Singapore by Singapore Airlines and it wasn't cheap. Things like this is very frustrating but a very expensive lesson to learn😢
You can see Thai people are super kind even it was the official regulation that all travelers have to extend their visa at the arrival points, they would still say apology for not convenient. I’m so proud of being Thai 😁.
You were lucky that it was Chiangmai, so many flights available from early morning until night. Anyway it was experience, wish you still enjoy to explore more.

I find it strange that Bangkok Immigration sent you back to Chiangmai as recommendation, but we never know what is the main reason behind it. Still Good that you still have you extended visa. Keep safe.

I had the same thing happen to me. Decided to go to Hua Hin from Ching Mai...just before my visa was to expire. Chiang Mai immigration says cant do it here have to do it in Hua hin...because different province ( that's Thailand for you) travel to Hua hin, day after have new papers from new condo...go to Hua Hin immigration...but wait wait the Condo is in Cha-am...so that's in Phetchaburi...45 minute scooter ride later in Phetchaburi immigration...but some papers from new condo owner missing...so ended up having to come back to next day pay a fin for overstaying my visa by 1 day....lol. Got to love Thailand.

I had to do the exact same thing, for the same reason, but worse, about 11 months ago. We moved from Hua Hin to Phuket, and 8 days after driving down to Phuket (9+ hours) Phuket Immigration told me I could not extend my visa in Phuket and had to do it back in Hua Hin. So I drove all the way back at midnight (there are no flights to Hua Hin), extended my visa at 9:00 AM, and drove back to Phuket immediately. I was absolutely exhausted. Now I am worried the same thing will happen next week. 😬😫

I’m a musician, four years ago I flew from Bangkok to Chiangmai at noon and show at Jazz festival done at midnight, get some sleep and then 5 am. go to airport for the first flight to Hatyai in the south for next concert at 2 pm. and 9 pm. took a bus to Krabi arrived at 2 am. for travel there 3 days with my wife and fly back to Bangkok. Hahaha I mean I’m sick for travel for a while.
Wow we can imagine how tired you must be! That is a long travel day and you still have to perform for a crowd! Haha you need a lot of coffee haha🥲

It is not our first, it was just unexpected as we had not planned to return to chiang mai after leaving just 2 days before. we were planning to stay in Bangkok for a month but had to leave after just arriving.

It's worth it to sign up with a visa assist place here; they will contact you far ahead of time to remind you that you need to do something, they would also explain any details you might not know (like what just happened,) they'll go to immigration and do a lot of the hassle for you.
