  • Journalist Tanya Fowles was so concerned when she heard that showjumper Katie Simpson had been taken to hospital after an apparent suicide attempt by the known domestic abuser Jonathan Creswell that she repeatedly phoned police to inform them of her concerns that there was more to the story than met the eye.
Tanya, an award winning court reporter based in Northern Ireland, couldn’t believe that Creswell’s account of finding Katie and trying to help her had formed the decision to shut down any investigation into her death.
She was also flabbergasted when he played the role of chief mourner at her funeral and later showed support for suicide charities.
It took almost five months for a new PSNI investigation team to be put in place who quickly discovered that Tanya was right to be suspicious that the 21 year old had been murdered by evil Creswell who would later be charged with the crime.
Nicola talks to Tanya about Creswell, his own suicide as his murder trial got underway and an extraordinary story of sex, jealousy and coercive control which remained hidden for years.

He's an unlikely person to have a harem of women, let alone women prepared to cover up a murder for him. I can almost understand that brainwashed women in the harem believing he was innocent, but there's *no* excuse for the police. WTF were they playing at? Did he have connections?
Poor Katie deserved better, not just from Jonathan but the women (including her sister and mother) who should have had her back. Katie had known Him since she was a young teenager, and I suspect she was groomed into whatever sort of relationship she was in with him.
May her soul now rest in peace.
Thanks Nicola and Tanya for covering this, and well done to Tanya for seeing something was very wrong with this and for caring.

      You are 100%.
PSNI failures are an everyday thing it’s at a scary point. But WTF were the parents doing in this situation? Did they settle with suicide?

@@xo4548 yeah I was wondering where Katie's parents are and what role they played. I've read that her mother was around at the time (she was baby sitting the children Katie's sister had with Cresswell) but no mention of the father. Perhaps he's not on the scene.

I've seen something similar where a daughter of someone of profile assaulted someone 3 times and the gards done the victim instead
