been a Union Carpenter for over 25 years. Dude, you got some skills!! and i thank you for taking time to make a video that can help every body at any level improve !!
Probably one of the best videos of this type. Taping is a difficult thing to do for the average person who wants to tackle it. But this gives you the hows and whys taping is done a certain way. Step by step Instructions. And of course being a video, you can watch as many times as you need to really learn the material. Pretty handy. It’s still a learning process, but this removes some of the easy mistakes you could make, and adds a few tricks to make it turn out better.
I'm renovating a bedroom right along with you and I want to say thanks. The videos are a great help. I did plaster work last in 1973 when my dad and I built the interior walls of this house. Now, in 2019 I have returned home after a zillion termites had their way with some of my interior walls. After tearing them out and rebuilding the stud work and walls (this time with ground contact lumber), replacing the electrical wiring and boxes, and hanging the sheetrock, I'm in the plaster stage. Again thanks for the refresher course. A lot has changed since 1973 (including my back and muscles) and it helps to see how new materials and tools have made the job easier. Keep the videos coming.
Our friend who is in construction stopped by and I told him I wanted to know how to do the popcorn ceiling with the glitter in it just like the house I grew up in. He wasn't nearly as excited about the idea as I was 😂
Really digging all of your videos, it"s nice to have advise from someone with such a wide range of hands on experience. Simple way of explaining the how too's and not too's.
You are officially my favorite Canadian! Thank you sir for the wonderful video. I just finished my wifes craft room and I couldn't have done it with out your help! Thank you
That’s why I watch, rewatch, rewatch, rewatch.... I’m finishing half my basement and I’ve watched this series half a dozen times to prep. It’s paying off BIG TIME! Thank you, Jeff!!
You're an excellent teacher. I'm a finish/trim carpenter but have to pivot sometimes to drywall when my usual work is lean. Your videos have helped me improve my drywall skills exponentially. You are very appreciated. Thank you so much!
Recent DIY drywalling rookie. Can't thank you enough for the multiple walk-throughs. Terrific teacher and love when you purposely do a "don't" to make an example. Very much appreciated!
Thanks so much for doing this. I keep referring back to it, as I'm building out the inside of my barn as time permits and need to make sure I'm doing it right. Excellent professional and teaching skills. GREAT JOB!
My first time doing a DIY remodel in my closet...you are a great instructor and your tips are priceless to someone like me who never attempted drywall before! I love the way you cut to thru the chase and demonstrate step by step applications! Thank you...
I just started doing the build backs after our mold remediation jobs. There's not much I can't do with a little knowledge of the process. You my friend just put me on easy street! Thank you sir...
Hey Jeff, thank you so much for all your help , tips and tricks, and all your knowledge you have invested in your videos. I've watched your channel since day 1. With all your help I've tackled finishing my entire basement from start to finish . I'm so grateful for all you do for the viewers . Kind regards from NY. Anthony.
Cheers to New York!!!! Anthony, it is a real pleasure to hear this. Please send us pics or a small video of the work you did and we will post it on our Instagram account. You could be our next Reno NInja! Cheers!
Whenever I'm ready to start the next step in the process I take the time to watch and review the excellent, excellent details in these videos. Nice job and many thanks.
Hey Jeff, i have just completed my basement restoration after a burst drain pipe. I have just done the drywall, taping, mudding and painting. I will now step aside and leave the vinyl flooring to a professional, as i know my limitations. I just wanted to say Thanks and i really enjoyed all your videos on the entire process. I did get a chuckle at around the 4 minute 30 second mark of this video. When you said. If your working in your home and you like a nice joint. Sorry for the bad joke. Once again thanks and i would post you some pics if i knew how...lol. Take Care. George.
Out of all the drywall videos I'm seen this gentleman is by far the best. Great instruction and application. I understand he's a pro so everything he does is effortless but it's shown right and he explains the do's and don'ts and shows you. My overalls to you sir.
Great video series - I followed your instructions and drywalled my basement and master bedroom. I used the basement as my training area and then did a better job in the bedroom.
You do an amazing job no matter what the 40 year experts said. I can easily see the smoothness way you work and how quick you are 👍 new subscriber here. Thank you a lot 🙏
Great videos, the painting ones helped me significantly, but this drywall videos helped so much that I went from hating drywall to actually enjoying doing them and not stressing over it. Thanks again!
After watching your video I have a better understanding. I have been in construction for many years, and have seen many drywall. Thanks you for your instructional how to video. Very helpful!
I wanna thank you for making these videos. They really helped me make a professional installation and finish of drywall without making all the mistakes. So much time saved. THANK You!!!
Thanks for all the help you have given me with these videos. One guy wanted to charge me 3k to dry wall my half bath. With your videos I've been able to do it all by myself.
Takes a certain kind of talent. Very nice, learned a lot from this video. I build/remodel houses from the foundation up, and usually despise when drywall days show up, but it's getting a ton easier after videos like these.
Great instruction! We're working on taking down the popcorn ceilings and finding that we have to repair the terrible job they did on all the seams. Our first try on our own took way too long, but currently trying the repairs with your clear instructions. I look forward to seeing how well I've executed, and in so much less time!
Greatly enjoying the videos, and am learning quite a lot. It may be just me, but on the taping and mudding videos it seemed like I missed the first 30 seconds or minute at the beginning. I really like your teaching method; short and to the point, yet explaining well and demonstrating well, without a lot of fluff and filler. If the background music was a bit softer in volume that would be perfect,
Thanks for the tip on the corners. Me and my brother built a 3 bed/1 bath guest house for our cousin, and we’ve been doing the mudding over the past few days. Your videos have helped us tremendously. I’m a framer, not a damn drywaller 😂 but honestly I’m actually kind of enjoying this. It’s almost like doing art. Lol
EXCELLENT videos. So glad we found your site. Lots of diy projects in our future and they're going to turn out better thanks to your advise. Great explanations and camera work too!
Cheers for the vids! Helping me win some full on debates about gib stopping by 2 total amateur diyers, who think we got the theory down pat. This is the best series iv seen. And also showing me how to make my house fabulous again, one drywall at a time. Have a great day
Can you do a video or give me advice on how to install corner beads that are not screwed in but just put in place by mudding underneath and then over them? I have to do them at work but my technique sucks and it takes way to long. Does thickness of mud matter? They are metal beads but have paper on top. You make everything look too easy lol
Hahaha, you make it look so easy!! I hate doing drywall!! But I'm learning.. done my bathroom, now doing my son's... Once I feel like I'm doing good I'll do the whole house. But it's like anything else... practice makes perfect! I do floor covering and like anything thing else, more you do better you get!
Hi Marty, mudding is a lot like filling gaps in the floor with a trowel. You just get into a rhythm and it starts to make sense on its own. Cheers and Have a great Christmas!
Excellent presentation straight to the point. Have learnt a lot in a short amount of time. Now to put it into practice. Keep up the good work and training videos.
Every other job I go on im fixing corner beads that were done the way this guys does them. Not enough screws and no tape or mesh . Your gonna get a hair line crack right down the lip of that metal corner bead as it expands and contracts. The proper way to do them is spray them with an adhesive glue and than screw it even finish nails are good so that lip is tight to the sheet rock. With the little bit of screws you put you got plenty of play on that bead.
Some day, an update showing round corner beads would be keen; that way I can see how easy it could be if I ever got good at this stuff. Meanwhile, I'm experimenting by running a strip of painter's tape down the middle of the corner for the first & second coats, then pull it off for final & wipe down with damp cloth to smooth the edges.
Watched this probably 5 times, everything was going great!....till I totally spaced out in the moment and did both corners in one go. Now I have some sanding to do tomorrow to fix some weird spots. Dang it! Hehe
it would be VERY helpful if as you apply the Mud/ compound you inform of us which mud you are applying. I got lost on which one is 1st, 2nd, 3rd compound being used..
Great videos and learned alot. Watched these unfortunately after I done all the mud on over half of my house. Least other half will look way better, thanks!
Jeff @ 7:18 you are showing the bulk heads.I am boxing old wood ceiling beams with drywall .Should I use paper tape, metal tape,Plastic edging ? What will work best and give me the least amount of headaches? They look like the ones in your bath room but mine are cobbled with replacement wood where the wood was rotten .So I have to add wood to each one to make a visual continuity .then I will drywall them.I know there are products I could buy to achieve the look but I have next to no budget. Please help a house slave.
The tool this guy spoke of is called a clinch-on. It's quite the useful tool for installing corner bead. It's much faster and you don't have the screw holes to fill. Also it takes a skilled taper 60-80 seconds to apply bead using a clinch-on.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I found a site where you can get a clinch-on and a rubber mallet for 60 USD. So not really all that expensive, but handy to have. Though, having used one, I can say that it takes practice to get the hang of using it right.
and it's garbage, there is no strength to a corner bead when a crimp-er is used. If you are going to use metal corner bead, use screws as nails will pop over time. I rather vinyl corner bead with adhesive glue.
Should the mud be thinned on 2nd coat like when we taped? What consistency? Im using green-lid sheetrock compound from the 5 gal bucket. Im not fast enough to use quick set. Great videos and series BTW, thank you.
Very informative and useful channel. you do pretty much everything. Have you got any videos specifically on exterior door frames? I need to replace that stretch of wood the door latch hugs.
Hi, my mudding trowel concaves in the middle. This is leaving annoying ridges or waves where I end my stroke. Is my trowel garbage now? Should I get a new one that looks like yours? The best way to describe this trowel is, its like holding a paint brush. Thats how this one is.
Is it absolutely necessary to use the 45 minute hardener mud, or can you get away without using it? I understand using it for the gaps during the 1st steps, but I noticed he was applying it in various other locations throughout the videos. Can you just use the regular mud for those locations?
Jeff, thanks for the videos, i am about to attempt following them to finish my basement, starting off small...lol anyway I have 2 questions, 1. to confirm you use 45 Mud for filling holes/gaps etc as well as the first coat on corner beads, and then regular mud on first pass of taping corners, horizontals, butt joints and screw holes? 2. In your 45 min masterclass video it shows you applying the metal corner beading to the joint using nails suggesting it creates a nicer line, however i also see in this video you use screws and suggest they are better , so now i'm confused as whats better to go with? My father inlaw construction worker has said screws.
You truly are AMAZING!!! A do it all dolly! I wish my husband was as handy as you. But in his defense he’s a pretty darn good tool passer for me lol. I think I’m gonna be sanding for 14 days 😩. QUESTION... MY second coat on a joint DIRECTLY above a heat duct started about a 4” crack right in the middle of my joint... was it because of the blowing hot air? Doi sand and recoat ? Thanks buddy for the information, I think u rock. I watch all yur videos and I’ve learned so much.
SO JEFF just a btw the negative air is awesome if U have the time space and money to set one up but I bought this cheap $20 HYDE Dust Free Sanding Kit that attaches to the shop vac and there’s LITERALLY do dust! And thanks for the prompt reply. Why r u not on HGTV???
The biggest thing I learned here is that ridges aren't your enemy. Man I have wasted so much effort trying to get a ridge-less second coat. So obvious when you see it done well. Thanks!

Hi George, Glad to be of help. Cheers!
I am amazed at how effortlessly you smeared the mud on the wall and ceiling and didn't wind up wearing it or splattering it all on the floor.
Out of all the drywall videos I'm seen this gentleman is by far the best. Great instruction and application. I understand he's a pro so everything he does is effortless but it's shown right and he explains the do's and don'ts and shows you. My overalls to you sir.

This a big help for me. I'm new to the DIY thing. I'm mudding/taping the drywall in my garage for painting. This will make the job much easier.

Thanks dude. All the best.
Very helpful video's. Just started buying own house well as you know need fixing. These videos are life saver Thanks!!!
Its like watching Bob Ross do dry wall! Great video, makes me want to get started on my project, thank you for the great advise!
Our pleasure, except I think I need to work on my fro!
Very educational. Your technique makes sense.
You’re an artist Jeff!

Thanks for the kind words and Cheers to AUSTRALIA!
Excellent presentation straight to the point. Have learnt a lot in a short amount of time. Now to put it into practice. Keep up the good work and training videos.
Thank you Brian, I hope this helps you out with your project.

About to start the drywall portion of a room expansion. This will help me a lot being I have no idea on ho to drywall. Thanks.
Love to watch you. Would love to see some modular home remodels.
Great vids! Plenty of detail but still edited to the point.
Start to finish should it take 3 days to finish product including final sanding?
Love the videos, trying to find one on how to clean up after someone who started but left a bad mess of mud everywhere.
Some day, an update showing round corner beads would be keen; that way I can see how easy it could be if I ever got good at this stuff. Are you a drywaller or a painter? You make it look easy!!! 😍
Beautiful job.
Good to see some corners going on.
Great technique! I hate to do taping...Now I can give it a shot...
it would be VERY helpful if as you apply the Mud/ compound you inform of us which mud you are applying. I got lost on which one is 1st, 2nd, 3rd compound being used..
you make it look very easy !

Always enjoyed watching your Videos. Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
"If youre workin in your home and you like a nice joint"
he said joint hehehehe
He's talking about mudding not smoking.
green joint lol
best instructions on UA-cam.
Thank you Tim. Cheers!
The best on the internet . TY
If you use fiberglass on the metal corners it will help to prevent hairline cracking.
Great set of videos! How do you prevent the small ripples or chatter marks in the corners?
Jeff @ 7:18 you are showing the bulk heads.I am boxing old wood ceiling beams with drywall .Should I use paper tape, metal tape,Plastic edging ? Have you got any videos specifically on exterior door frames? I need to replace that stretch of wood the door latch hugs.
Hay you are doing a great job, have you ever bean to Mexico I need you here to finish my office it looks like you are doing an awesome job

Most drywall guys like a nice joint. lol . These are great videos by the way. Definitely learning a lot.
LOL, dude that made my day!
Is it absolutely necessary to use the 45 minute hardener mud, or can you get away without using it? I understand using it for the gaps during the 1st steps, but I noticed he was applying it in various other locations throughout the videos. Can you just use the regular mud for those locations?
maybe i missed it but when do you switch from 45 to machine mud?
I got a little confused on 45 mudd verses "mud" on which coat, thanks for asking the question.

yes too much warm dry air will cause the mud to crack. no worries just fill and go. Cheers!
Thanks!
