perfect timing - just scored one for €200, even they seller told me to watch some spvidz. i come from the sp555 and kind of miss the pressure sensitive pads it had on the 404
I miss the simplicity & immediacy of the SX. Sold the SX & got the mkii🤦🏽♂️ the mkii is dope & all but I feel like I’m working on an MPC? I also have the live which gets more use than the mkii. It would be dope if Akai could implement a resample pattern in the Live OS but doubt it. All I wanted on the SX was the ability to detune/pitch samples.. Great Video! ✌🏾
Some real surprises here-- Delete for mute groups is hilariously solid! But also, ever since the MK2 took over, I've been super eager to repurpose the SX's Subsonic as an insert effect on the kick while tracking live drums 🤔🤷♂️
I have found that the Chromatic Pitch shifter can have uses in turning samples into chords, but have you found any uses for the normal Pitch Shifter in your everyday workflow? I notice that when you turn it on while a sample is already playing (let's say an open hihat), it can add some interesting variation to the sound, but what do you think Roland's engineer's had in mind when they added that ugly delay effect [CTRL2]? What use circa 2007 could that delay effect been meant for?
@@spvidz definitely! The only couple I could think of are being able to use effects while sampling in, long vs Lofi mode for textures, pattern sequencer changes when you tell it to, most authentic vinyl sim sound…..lol those aren’t really hacks ahaha but maybe there’s something there?
Do any of you use Bluetooth receivers for both in/out on the SP404? I was using them and noticed some lag...BUT i'm wondering if a better option would be to use physical cables (instead of Bluetooth) to go OUT from the SP404 to my PC/studio monitors but still keep on using the Bluetooth receiver for bringing samples into the SP404 from my PC, it should still work great if you use the "Audio trigger hack", which would eliminate all of the dead space/lag. It was nice to have the SP404 completely wireless (since it also takes batteries), but still able to communicate with my PC
I know the sp404mk2 has dj mode. But I wish you could do a video on the oldschool way of playing live. Also, i've seen knobs like that in other photos. Where did you get them?
I bought my sp404sx used... the original sd card wasn't included... I've tried many times to download the wave converter to a new card after formatting... I'm using windows 11 and it won't open converter... is there any alternatives
Mainly because the FX that come with them lend themselves very well to those styles of music and because of iconic producers like J Dilla, Madlib etc using them for full albums. As you say though there is no limit. Any beat based music that is made using a sequencer and samples can be done on these boxes
maybe because the 202, 303 and 404 has been staples of the lofi hiphop / beatmaker culture I personally don't do that style... so in my search for other usage type, I found some ambient, drum and bass, industrial and even house music artists
That mute gorup hack is golden. SPVIDS is a DON!
🙌🙌🙌
that mute group hack is so clutch for making different sample arrangements! Glad to see you dusted off the SX for this one! Good vid.
that mute group hack is clutch bro. i honestly i didn’t think that was possible on the sx. 🔥🔥
Its really handy if you use it as just an FX unit or sampler!

I miss using my sx. I'm going to have to get it out and dive back in.
Thank God you back to the sx/A
Loving the content! That lofi vol 4 pack blew my mind. Subbed
🙏🙏🙏
truly a super super handy this vid, thank you
Wowowow! Love the SX. I’m about to get one
been using these knobs on the SX for awhile and they feel so nice. Congrats on 2milly views btw!
Thanks a lot man!
holy shit that mute group hack is a game changer
thank you so much for a SX vid! very useful and inspiring
I would love to see a vid of how you use your fx in a song/live performance. Or maybe creative ways to use mfx?
Thank you this is awesome!
Some ones I didn’t know. Thank you
Glad to help 🙌
Great tips. Thank you 👍🏻
The „delete mute group hack“ is really nice. ❤✌️
🙌
Love to see new sx content!

Thx for ya tricks, bro!
No problem! 🙌
Word been a minute since I’ve been on my machine ‘

Definitely missing sub-sonic. I hope they can add it to the mk2
I thought that since you got the MK 2 you had chose to dump the SP404 forever
😂😂😂😂. Great vlog champ
Never letting go of the SX haha!
West Coast is Best Coast🐊
🔥🔥🔥🔥
how do you make the sample chops fade in a tiny bit at the start? it's a philanthrope-type technique and i was wondering if you can do that on the sx

I will have to check out the chromatic mode in more details sounds like it could be useful!
lol i swear every spvidz video it's at 78bpm haha
i find that you can use voice trans as a pause just take second dial all the way left, its the best way to make that fx useable;)
That mfx comes into its own when you actually use it in vocal samples! May do a video about that actually!
Great video. I’m about to get a SX. Also can you do a video like this about the 303?
I'll add it to the list although I think I'll struggle coming up with 10 different points to these for the 303!

It would pretty much be the same as the SX which I have a video on here - ua-cam.com/video/S5AEkqTIVhk/v-deo.html
MUTE GROUPS!!! 🔥🔥🔥
SOLD mine
Did you upgrade to the mk2 or are you just using other gear now?
@@spvidz
I got the MK 2 had to wait months for it .
Been watching your vids for a while now.
Keep up the good work
Nice man it is a beast of a machine with the new upgrades. I've still got a soft spot for my SX though :)

Where are those samples for the mute group hack from? They sound familiar
Just had a look and can't find the sample I used sorry bro!
Why does everybody make the same music with these things? Surly useful for more than the lofi hip/trip-hop or whatever it is.. Serious question.
Mainly because the FX that come with them lend themselves very well to those styles of music and because of iconic producers like J Dilla, Madlib etc using them for full albums.
