Thank you so much for making this dogumentary (and other). There's so little info on some of the breeds, and it's nice to finally have more information than just "sheds a lot" and "needs space".
I lost my Leo Tess almost a year ago. I had her since she was 8wks old. She was a very very big girl a little over 28.5 " and her wait fluctuated between 130 and 140lbs. She is my heart dog and lived to 12yrs 8mo. I miss her every day. Leos are like having another person in your home, well one that sheds anyway. If you want to be the guardian to one I highly recommend you think of them as full partners in your life and not accessories or in common language dogs. They are highly sensitive and can be stubborn at times. There is a joke among a lot of leo people it's called Leo Recall. You call them and they just stare at you, and come when they get around to it. If you have the time, commitment and love they are the greatest breed even though you go through a lot of vacuums in their lifetime.
I always said our female who was bit smaller than yours at 28 inch and 110lb was sarcastic as hell. She'd be laying across a door way and ask her to move her response was to lift her tail and let it drop didn't move anything else 🤦♀️. I thought she was stubborn but our 9 month male is definitely worse although he will move straight away of he's blocking the kitchen door as he's ever hopeful he'll be getting more food 😂
Goodness me they do shed their coats. Ours would fill our house all the time with strains of hair ... you would be constantly sweeping or vacuuming it up. That being said... the best dog of all time. The lap sitting 140lb dog
So informative and so plain-speaking about the challenges of owning such a dog. I met my first Leonbergers at the LA Equestrian Center and was captivated. They are indeed beautiful.
I spoke to a Leo owner today who said her male passed away at 11. 5 years old is way too young - and wouldn't be a death from old age. I'd say around 10 years is their life span.
Lol... slow down and read my comment carefully. The male passed away at 11 years old. A dog who passes away at 5 years old is way too young and did not die from old age. Average is between 8 and 10 years old.
My Leo loved playing with the deer that came near the yard. She’d run the fence line and play and shake her butt...and the deer were never scared. Every kid around loved her-the neighbors kids pretty much ignored their own dog bc mine was this big goofy Marmaduke-mischievous teddy bear. Burnt up 2 vacuums sucking up hair tumble weeds even though I brushed her everyday. Absolutely worth every second of work to have her curled up next to my bed...snoring...loudly...upside down 😂 They’re funny funny dogs. I miss her every single day😢🙏🏻💗
I had a Leonberger named Zeus from a puppy till the end and he is by far the best dog anyone could want. I have 3 kids. When my oldest was about 1.5yrs old he escaped his crib and started to crawl down the stairs, Zeus bolted to the stairs, ran up and then played down because he somehow knew my son was starting to fall down the stairs and he stopped him from falling. Zeus was a true "gentle giant". I've wanted another Leonberger since we had to put Zeus down when he was about 11 yrs old
I owned four Leonbergers and was involved with the Leonberger Club of America in the late '90s. My favorite pure bred dog, by far, but mine all died of cancer at age 10 years. I couldn't live through that again so I'm now living with two mixed breed dogs. No guarantees, but so far they are eleven years old and healthy.
Isn't that crazy? Humans and dogs having cancer was rare not long ago . Now every single person has at least 1 family member who has it and knows a dog died of it. I say it's in the food we both eat and VACCINES
@@dtcdtc8328 I say it’s in the food we eat and over vaccination, plus that both we humans and dogs have been living more comfortable lives compared to our ancestors decades or centuries ago. So, those of us who wouldn’t have made it back then would likely make it nowadays. Vaccines have a purpose and can do you well but over vaccination is a problem. Dogs typically don’t need rabies vaccines every year like many vets would like you to believe. Still don’t trust newer vaccines, I like my vaccines older than my parents.
@M.B thick hanging lips. Because of their flews Leos don't drool like Newfies. However when drinking water they get as much on the floor as they do in their mouths.

I are up with a Leonberger, I was only 5 when we got her, and she was the gentlest, kindest most wonderful being in the world. They are perfect family pets, despite their size

I could think of some more info on the breeds you already showed us. Something like, if you are an active person, take this or that breed, for families you take this or that breed etc.. Or a 'how to find a good breeder' video? What to look at and what not when you see a puppy. Some Health based videos. You ran out of dogs but i'm sure not out of knowledge ;-). I would love to see some more general informative videos on dogs and how to care/look for them. If you wanna import from Europe/Japan,/Russia, what to consider etc.
Please!! Do Greyhounds next, there's not many good videos on greyhounds only whippets or Italian greyhounds. I'm thinking of getting a greyhound but I need to know more on what to expect when their a puppy and up to adulthood please!!!
Greyhounds make great first-time dogs, and are also very good apartment dogs! They're very lazy, they want about 20 minutes/day to run around, then they spend the rest of the day sleeping in the sun. Some people call them "stubborn" but they're just not a border collie - you have to give them a reason to listen to you. Very affectionate and calm :)
Emily Neslage try searching 'GAP greyhound adoption program', they're in Australia. Even if you're not adopting there's heaps of videos of greyhound info. I have a whippet and my mum fostered greyhounds, we spend a lot of time with them and they're super similar to be honest.
Italian Greyhound owner here, who adores her pup. My advice...go with the Greyhound for a first time dog owner or even first time sighthound owner. Low maintenance, sweet, lovely dogs. The smaller you get in the sighthound category, the more high maintenance.
My frenchie has become friends with one of these gentle giants. Such a beautiful dog, he gets a lot of attention 😀 Other dogs that see him from afar get a little intimidated but once they get up their courage to walk up closer they realize how friendly and gentle that he really is. I was curious to know more about this breed and this video was very helpful! Thank you and greetings from Bern, Switzerland. 😊
This is "my breed"! And how I found your channel actually, thank you for posting such a great video about a truly wonderful breed! I found it funny how people are saying a dog like that would be fine in southern California 😂 yeah with lots and lots of A.C. but it is truly a cold weather dog. My dogs get super hot even in Swedish summers and here in winter don't even like to cuddle on the couch for a long time as it gets too hot for them. They come ALIVE in the snow! It's a dog meant for cold climates and thrive there 💪😃 which is why they are quite popular in Scandinavia! Thanks again for the video and look forward to seeing more in the future!
It would be great if you could do one on wolfdogs, it can be like an educational video which would mention how these breeds are not for the faint of heart, etc. Love the videos man!
Best choice of food for dogs!!! Once you go raw you never go back!! The positive effects on the coat and health are AMAZING! :-) good Luck, there is much information out there, and many many Facebook communities out there to help you of you need support :-)
We're on our second and they're a lot of work. Don't get one if you can't keep it company, can't afford it, can't give it lots of exercise, and can't deal with the mess. They'll trash your house and drive you nuts because they can be stubborn but they are fun too. You also need to watch out when it's really hot out not to overdo it exercising them. They love the cold weather. Not a good choice if you're in a hot climate.
You literally just answered EVERY of my question. Wow! I really want one! I have one that looks like him, however, mines the Great Pyrenees X Germans Shepard
When I was a dog bather at a grooming salon, I had the honor of bathing one of these majestic dogs. Obviously the dog was way too big for the tub, so I had to wash him on the floor. I used four bottles of shampoo and four bottles of conditioner. The dog was very well mannered and did exactly what I instructed it to do.

Barking with them is hit or miss. But he 'wookies' and whines and makes all sorts of other noises to communicate. A friend of ours has one that lets you know whenever a leaf passes their doorstep! They will work wonders for you as a companion/service dog
When I use to go to regional Leonberger club events in the Northeast (US) they would bring in therapy dog testers. So you could get your dog certified as a therapy dog in less than a couple of hours. In my group 10 out of 10 passes with no training. These dogs are made for therapy work.... very calm, sensitive to a person’s feelings and gets along with other dogs. Only exceptions are when intact males are around each other... then it could get dicey.
Hello from Germany, My First Dog was an Caucasian Owtscharka (Bone Cancer on Front of Nose), Twice was an Leonberger-Pyrenäe, Now i have a Leonberger-Berner Sennen!

i have a leonberger - he's called Simba. He's a lazy boi but that's probably because he's 12 so not long until bye-bye happiness... but would definately recommend to anyone looking to buy a dog, they are great around kids and are generally very calm and considerate. Simba weighs only 48 kilos and doesn't eat that much.
Very good information about your dogs and how beautiful they are😍 Also very interesting about the raw food and the health history in Germany (that the healthier dogs in Eastern Germany had raw food). If you have any suggestion of brands/ingredients etc what to give it would be highly appreciated 👍
Living with a Bernese Mountain Dog please :) If you have the opportunity. I love your videos, it is like christmas time when you post, wish you the best! :)
This could be a much longer video. I dont even intend on ever getting a Leonberger. Very interesting! Everyone has favorites. My fave breeds are the leaner high drive working field labs, Malinois, GSD's, GSP's, and awesome sporty mutts (thats where breeds come from before people meddle with cultivating traits they want to preserve). I like breeds that live long. Im really picky about any breeder doing genetic tests to rule out preventable inherited conditions + evaluating joint structure to reduce inherited hip/elbow dysplasia. The Leonberger's coat is gloriously floofy! I love the temperament description. ❤💜💙💚
4:05 yeah... I was wondering where that solid black face comes from and I'm beginning to try to remember which dogs of old had the solid , or mostly , black face surely that's not just a happenstance from the three breeds mentioned that theoretically are a part of this dogs gene pool?
Would this breed do okay if trained well to have a yard with no fence? I work from home and I'm starting to get lonely after my last dog passed a few years ago. I have a decent sized yard but not allowed to build fencing.
the city herald/weapons shield has a lion in it. Due to the crusades. So this gave the first breeder, the mayor, a goal what the dogs must look alike. Also there is German shepherd in the mix...obedience. You don't get this of the 3 main races mentioned.
leo's are great (silent) watchdogs and looking after the family. You most not grooming youre leo to much, we have a dogbloower and the bloower is the best friend for any type of dog. Our 3th leo is now 2,5 years and i am very proud, our 2nd leo was almost 13 years old
All dogs should be fed raw meat ,ox heart is good and can be cooked and eaten by humans . Kidneys , liver ,tails ,bones ,brains, ect . All good doggy num nums .
Wonderful Video! We have a new Leo puppy arriving in a few days. What kind of feeding schedule for "raw food" would your recommend for puppies and adults (we have a newphy adult I assume would benefit from raw as well). Btw: I sent you a private note via your kennel website. Feel free to respond at either location. Again thanks for the great info!
I have one question to ask about them: do they slobber a lot? I have heard varying accounts on it, some say they do terribly, others that they never saw it. How is it really? I am very much in love with the breed, this video confirms most of what my research told me before and even new details like their running movement patterns! And it was encouraging seeing how much raw feeding can do for their health.
My parents really loved our leonberger because he didn't drool more than the average dog. It's not nearly as bad, and it definitely isn't constant as it is with a lot of other big dogs
This lady is an outstanding dog breeder. Her knowledge on this breed is incredible and in depth. Learned so much, thank you.

Zeke, is there a reason the breeder didn't bring a male out for the video?
Would this breed do okay if trained well to have a yard with no fence? I work from home and I'm starting to get lonely after my last dog passed a few years ago. I have a decent sized yard but not allowed to build fencing.
Awesome!!! Please do Great Pyrenees love your Chanel!👍👍
Greetings from Québec, Canada. Proud owner of 3 leos.
the city herald/weapons shield has a lion in it. Due to the crusades. So this gave the first breeder, the mayor, a goal what the dogs must look alike. Also there is German shepherd in the mix...obedience. You don't get this of the 3 main races mentioned.
How long does it take for giving a leonberger a bath?
leo's are great (silent) watchdogs and looking after the family. You most not grooming youre leo to much, we have a dogbloower and the bloower is the best friend for any type of dog. Our 3th leo is now 2,5 years and i am very proud, our 2nd leo was almost 13 years old
i have a leonberger 1 years old and as big as a kitchen table her name is Kiara
nice looking dog
thank you I asked for this in the previous video .😊😁😄
My friend has the only leon Berger in our state
Very blessed family! You are lucky to have one at hand, your life gets better with each meeting
What state?

Can you make a video on Newfoundlands?

@john smith
many dogs love the rumen as well.
Can you do one about Dobermans? Thanks
He already did a couple on Dobermans
Oh okay, thank you!
BRAD!!!! Where you at?????????????
I have one question to ask about them: do they slobber a lot? I have heard varying accounts on it, some say they do terribly, others that they never saw it. How is it really? I am very much in love with the breed, this video confirms most of what my research told me before and even new details like their running movement patterns! And it was encouraging seeing how much raw feeding can do for their health.
My parents really loved our leonberger because he didn't drool more than the average dog. It's not nearly as bad, and it definitely isn't constant as it is with a lot of other big dogs
I WISHD ID HAD DOG LIKE THAT
Brett Anderson ran out of dogs to tape ?
Any special training for people who should own and handle these dogs ?
How do I get one and How much are they
