- Millions of Americans who receive benefits from the country's food-stamp program, known as SNAP, could have their assistance cut off because of the partial government shutdown. Also, the IRS has been forced to send home 90 percent of its employees ahead of its busiest season, which could delay tax refunds. Damian Paletta, an economic policy reporter for the Washington Post, joins CBSN to discuss.

Some of us need an escape from the calamity that is the U-S of A. Personally I feel there a ton of major voices and celebrities far bigger than UA-camrs that still haven't spoken on the situation at hand. Somewhere down the line we lost focus on what truly matters, and put value, trust, and our hard earned dollars into things and people who at the end of the day don't relate to our REAL everyday lives and ultimately don't have your best interest at heart. Even though 2 of us were working, we would put away money for the mortgage, and stock the freezer. That way, my check was enough to see us through. If you don't do this, it is you, who is the fool.

I am a single mother of 2 working 2 jobs and still dont have enough money to put food in the house, SNAP has helped me and my children get through every month and if anyone who is a parent like myself loses SNAP how will we be able to provide for our families? This wall on the border of Mexico is unnecessary, no matter what Trump does those who want a way over will find a way wall or not. Hey guys, for some this can be infuriating- the loss of benefits - but instead of debating politics on the internet, if you are fortunate enough to donate, perhaps go to your local shelter, food bank etc and donate some food. Even less than $5.00 worth of canned food from your local grocer can help!
Our family was in a horrible situation a while back and we depended on snap benefits for 8 months. That was a trying and scary time for us. We were grateful for the assistance and now always try to pay it forward. I am thankfully financially secure now and in the place where I can help. (Also, its a good learning experience for the kids!)

Brand New Bike There's too many heartless people out there and the dynamics on the how and why someone receives benefits. My family doesn't but did years ago. Where my daughter works she collected groceries for our local pantry to help those in need. Now local pantries are trying to help those who will be affected by the shutdown. TANF, HEAP, and heap means you only pay 10$ for electric and gas each. TANF and EBT takes care of food. Food is pretty cheap if you can cook yourself. Can't afford rent? move to a lower cost of living area until you can get job skills that pay you more money. For example, where I live i own a 4 bed 2 bath house for 625 a month. That's less than a 1 bed apartment in any coastal states.

Food at food banks are expired and mostly rotten.I had to throw away everything they gave.This sucks.

However many stores also carry products past the sell by date for as low as 4/$1 I don’t remember quite what they’re called. Aldi is also an excellent cheaper store.
