I see several common about ISA giving half of Vekta to Helghast after them "winning" the war didn't make sense. So here is so background. ISA didn't giving up half of the planet by choice, they are force to do so under gun point. ISA Alpha Centauri like the name suggested, are just a regional government/police force of Alpha Centauri. The true government of human race and all the colonies are an organization call UCN. And UCN is a powerful organization. Their army, the UCA are stronger than even ISA and Helghan combine. It's just because their territory are so large, they can't direct rule every thing, so they usually don't intervene what regional government are doing. UCA don't seems that powerful because the only time they show up in game is during KZ1 with UCA fleet getting their ass kicked by SD Defense Network. But that's just one support fleet of many. Visari's plan of using SD Defense Network to force UCN negotiate peace is a doomed plan from the start, as UCA can easily send several full-bore invasion fleets if the support fleet got destroyed. Even though UCA seldom goes to war, if they truly did, unlike ISA's failed invasion, Helghast will just get crashed by them. During Second Extrasolar War (story of KZ1~3), UCN are pissed at ISA, fisrt with ISA's oppression towards Helghast causing the war (even though UCN are the real culprit in this matter), second with ISA can't contain the matter by themself, third with ISA disobey direct orders from UCN and lunched the failed invasion, fourth with the result of an entire planet being destroyed. So it was UCN who ordered ISA granting refuge to the Helghast survivors on Vekta, basically as a punish. And ISA had no choice but to listen, as if they don't, UCA will be the next who knocked on the door. You may say we (Sev and Rico) only did it to stop Helghast destroying Earth. That's true, but it''s also possible that: A. Maybe UCN think even with the threat of the super weapon, destroying an planet are still over kill; B. Maybe UCN don't took the threat seriously, even Stahl think he can just warp to earth and bombed it, for all we know, UCA might be able to wipe out Helghast fleet before they even get to orbit (or they might think so); C. Maybe UCN just don't care about the reason, it result with Terracide, that's all they care.
Guerrilla games in their technical talks and presentations actually called this a Killzone 4, well actually just a remaster of the 6 games would be better since they just recently said they were done with the Killzone franchise (to make Horizon games)
shadow fall is one of the most visually impressive launch titles for the PS4, even someordinarygamers just talked in his last few videos that the visuals are simply breathtaking, i had a ps4 pro and it used to sweat a lot during gameplay. the mechanics of maneuverability made sense being the last game in the series
Thank you so much for covering and also understanding this game the way that I do. Killzone, is really close to my heart and you've done an outstanding job of looking at what the game is trying to say!
I'm glad you also like SF. I never really understood the community's obsession with Killzone 2 and bashing of SF. All of the games have their own pros and cons. Only thing I can't defend with this game is the story point of Vekta giving up half the planet to the Helghast instead of integrating them into their society like they did after the first extrasolar war.
KZ2 is a top 10 favorite games for me, but I still love every Killzone game. Shadow Fall has amazing ideas, my problems relate to its narrative & writing. But it's a blast to play!
I think people didn't like it because we were expecting more on next-gen launch title. That was heavily marketed as best shooter with open missions and next gen gameplay. But were more linear. If it wasn't launch title I would say reception would have been much better
Important bit of lore. It wasnt the vektan government that gave the helgan half the plant. It was earth who was extremely tired of the mess and bull that helghan and vekta were pulling. They forced this as they were done using the kid gloves for both sides and told them to play nice or earth would force the issue and literally take over and they would lose their governmental autonomy.
Great video and appreciate the lengths that you went to bring it to us =) Never played a Killzone game as not had a Playstation since the PS2 but this game looked great.
I appreciate the lengths you went to make this video! Always enjoyable! I never got around to Shadow Fall. I remember the negative backlash that it had, but I wasn't in a good headspace for console gaming at the time. So I had no desire to pick up anything console or console adjacent. No matter what was said about it. Then it just faded into the background when I was able to engage with consoles again, years later. I do have to say I'd agree with a PC port of the entire franchise. Sony keeps saying they don't have Franchises, when they're leaving so many to rot away. A PC Remaster of the series would be a great way to not only appease fans of the series, but also draw attention to, and maybe incentivize making a follow up. It's wild to think they had an ending like that, and then never moved forward with a follow up. This has been a fun romp, thank you for going through the main series!
I remember when I finished Shadow Fall for the first time, I told myself: "It really feels like Guerrilla don't want to continue KZ's story. Are they trying to switch to a new IP?" I can't really say why, but that ending give me that kind of feeling. And Horizon coming out 4 years later prove me right.
Which is fair, to be honest. Studios should have the liberty to change projects once they feel a franchise has been explored enough. New ideas and new stories to work with are refreshing for studios, rather than being made to work the same franchise year after year after year.
Good video, kept me watching the entire time from beginning to end. It's far from my favourite game, but it's a well made shooter. I just miss the gritty, brutal war that was portrayed in 2, and was present in a lot of early 7th gen shooters. I think if you play the Resistance trilogy, you'll find a much more consistent quality across that series than Killzone.
Honestly find this game very underrated. I played the MP from when I bought my Ps4 to the day the servers were offline. The campaign also had plenty of fun combat arenas! Overall solid game!
I thought people were tripping when they said this was the worlds game out of the series. I can’t really say there was anythi holding back the game aside from the ending like you said. I played the game after multiplayer was dead and or shut down so I can’t speak on that part. This was honestly a great story for what the conflict is about especially it’s less spoken about take that the people of a different group you save and allow in your gates, will betray you. Really gives a good message to why countries exist. The gameplay was awesome. I loved the zero G missions, and their combat. The bush having alternative fire modes was even cooler.
Thank you so much for this man I have always defended this game. Thank you for actually bothering to be invested in the story and giving the game its flowers when it would be so much easier to follow the dipshit bandwagon and just trash on it. 🎉
First of all, thank you so much for all the effort you went through to get this to us. I’m a PC guy myself and haven’t owned my own actual console since… my PS3. Which I think might’ve gotten lost somewhere in New York after I split from my ex gf 5 years ago 😅 I’ve been watching the start of your KZ videos over the course of a week or so, and I’ve always heard that Shadowfall was an abomination. So I was eagerly awaiting for this video to see just wtf was so wrong with it. I’ve watched the entire video and I have to say, I truly believe that Guerilla was snorting, crushing, eating, injecting, and smoking whatever they could grow in their garden and/or ordered off the Dark Web, cause they were fucking COOKING. Maybe the gameplay was bad at the time??? Visually and narratively, I was locked in during the whole video. They absolutely need to make another Killzone game to expand on the story, cause exactly like you said, Echo just kicked off a whole nother shitshow. And if/when they do make another Killzone game, it would be an absolute crime at this point if it DOESN’T come to PC.
Man, why is nobody making games like this now? I get that WW2 and current warfare is still drawing masses, but we are long overdue for proper space sci-fi action. Also Killzone collection on PC would be sweet as hell but I am afraid today Guerilla does not have balls for something like that. PS. To the people in 01:41:00 uchm, have you have heared of little country called North Korea? Not that it´s the only example..
The whole concept of giving half a planet to your sworn enemies was a hump i could not get over in this narrative. I really had a hard time not thinking that aspect was idiotic to the point i couldn't suspend my belief for the rest of the story 🤣
Well, I respect your opinion but there are MAJOR criticisms I have with the game. Coming as someone who's only game when I got my PS4 was Shadowfall, and a previous fan of the series, I was massively disappointed. The visuals were great, but the performance was not, and it had cascading effects on the gunplay of the game. All of the post-processing input lag from the previous games was eliminated, but that also killed the perceived weight of aiming and shooting. The massively inconsistent framerate of Shadowfall made aiming feel so much worse than KZ3. The visuals were great, but also felt more bland than the previous games but still had a lot more style than other games of that era. The level design was not good, the "open" levels felt meandering and unfocused, and the more linear levels just felt boring. A few gimmicks, like the zero g level and the very poorly done stealth segments, helped shake things up but I never got invested in the COD-esque gameplay enough to get over the bad framerate and the atrocious story. The story had more than just a bad ending as negatives, I feel the entire plot of the game barely holds together and makes very little sense. The writers had a vague idea of an interesting story, and the designers had vague ideas of set pieces, so everyone just threw it all together and barely stitched it into something coherent. The ending is legendarily bad. I really gave the multiplayer a shot, but the community never really grew and I couldn't get invested invested in it. Once the lackluster launch lineup started giving way to better games, I moved on and never looked back.
Evan: the game has better writing J.jJohnson laugh meme here. Somehow Helghast got the best deal out a treaty despite losing, horribly. Allow to build it military, got some serious Frist order vibe there. ISA are just bad guys now. The only good Helghast must also be Vekta, again. Super Vuris which is weak plot muffin. Force east vs west story approach, and not a very good one. Protagonist is ok going against his boss who rises him since his dad death that would have been avoidable if the ISA just gather their people frist before turning over land. Seriously, Helghast who negotiated with ISA must have infinite iq and luck for pulling it off. It be like yazi lost ww2 and gotten half of usa in terms of surrendered. Say what about 123, liberation, and Mercs, but at least they knew they were in a war setting they are in.
I really liked Shadow Fall. Probably my favourite Killzone game after KZ2.... however, the premise of the story makes absolutely no sense in this game.
My problem with the game was giving half the planet to your enemy and allowing them to come as soldiers and not as just citizens. It be like the Jewish people bombing Germany after WWII for revenge and than allowing the survivors half of Israel. But not just as civilians, but also soldiers with guns and armor and allow them to build weaponry. That point was a joke to me. Should of been where they were building such underground and the Shadow Marshals suspected of such and send you in to see.
The thing was the terracide gave the helghast a lot of political good will with the other colonies and earth who were already tired of Vekta dragging them into their conflict with helghan. Also it was earth that gave half the planet to the helghast not the vektan government. Earth just wanted the matter settled and swept under the rug
@@Phantom6.6.6 Maybe so. But it still does not make sense to have your enemy come to your planet it with military weapons. It isn't settling or sweeping anything under the rug. It is just going to boil slowly into another genocide.
The cover system is still present and functioned pretty much the same as it did in 2 and 3 in my playthrough. I even showed some parts here where I was hiding and firing from behind cover.

It'll be part of the full series video!
The graphics still look amazing today in my opinion.

Great video and appreciate the lengths that you went to bring it to us =)
Never played a Killzone game as not had a Playstation since the PS2 but this game looked great.
A killzone collection would print money and make me need new underwear. Great video Evan keep up the great work
They did release a Killzone collection, although it was only the first 3 mainline games. For the PS3 iirc.
@ a collection with the psp and psvita games on it for new hardware with a little remaster maybe.
Killzone will always be my favourite FPS. I still have hope one day we'll see a Helghast campaign.
That’s a much more nuanced story than I expected from the space nazi games (I knew nothing about them until your review)
Yeah these games go pretty hard. Especially Killzone 2. The grittiness in that game in particular is unreal.

Right. I think it was a launch title for the PS4 and dang was it amazing.
