Good video pal. A video on how you yourself clean and dry your roller heads would be great

Thanks, I normally just wash them out in the sink with cold clean water.
If I'm using oil based paint I normally use cheap rollers and then bin them afterwards!
      Thanks for the comment

Have you tried the Purdy colossus sleeve? I love it. You don’t have to dip it as often. It’s The only thing I use on pretty much any ceiling.

      Not yet!
But the next time I do a ceiling I'll try one out.

What length nap would you use for normal painted plasterboard interior walls and ceilings?

Are you sure that the sleeves only fit the purdy roller frames? I'm not sure about the mini roller frame but I have a Wooster 9 inch frame and have been using the Purdy white dove sleeve, perfect fit.

I'm sure I tried another sleeve and it would not fit, but that was a few years ago.

So you can only use Purdy sleeves with their frames. I wondered about Dulux rollers being too tight a fit for Purdy frames, I end up having to cut them off.

Yes, I think a lot of firms now do this type of thing, so that you have to buy their consumables.

a good item, haven't seen them in France as thick as that, I bought a Bosch Electric painting machine what a mistake that was; hopeless!
    Thanks, might order one online!

I don't know anyone that has had success with an electric painting machine- apart from airless sprayers.
The Purdy marathon rollers are great ;-)

I have this but changed to Wooster because of 2 reasons
The Purdy roller frame being plastic spinning on aluminium caused dark grey gunk -a mixture of aluminium & to paint come out out the end, I constantly had to wipe it away or it got on the wall.
You clean it, but because the yellow frame it's self is a sealed unit there's no way to remove the gunk that's inside.
And after a while, the squeaking starts, the squeaking drives you insane! Don't bother trying to lube it, tried everything -no 👎joy
Wooster Sherlock = steel arm - open frame standard roller size, it's the future -I know I use one

The squeaking used to drive me nuts. I've not used it since making this video, but I remember the finish was good.
I'll make sure I get a Wooster Sherlock if I ever have to do a lot of painting again.

Wooster is always the best when it comes to painting tools.

@@MarkWhippy trouble is, most shops only sell Purdy, I can’t remember ever seeing Wooster.

I had a new kitchen ceiling installed about 8 months ago-skimmed plasterboard-I want to paint it now-should I prime/seal it before putting emulsion on ?

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  8 років тому

      +David Worsley
Yes, best to seal it with a mist coat of diluted matt emulsion paint. I normally use Dulux Supermatt diluted with 20% cold clean water for the first coat.
